Magnus Longshanks

Greetings one and all. I'm getting ready to do my character in this game, any class we lack enough of? Any preferences?

Welcome aboard.

We've been keeping our characters to ourselves, so go for whatever takes your fancy.

Good Morning from a wet Eastern Shore of Maryland in the United States

I am new to US and PbP role playing games. Like many, I started playing B/X and e1 AD&D in the early 80s as an adolescent. I am excited about everything I have read so far on threads. I am going to use the wet weather this weekend as an excuse to spend some time creating a character to join the adventure.

Looking forward to a long and fun campaign with all of you!

I have to leave in a minute here to catch a movie, but I just wanted to drop a quick question before doing so, just to get some feedback.

My plan has been to almost wholly rewrite T1 to customize every aspect of it. This, in truth, is proving to be a LOT of work and the main reason behind the delay in getting this game started.

Work which I am fine to do.

My question is: What would you guys prefer?
  1. A faster start by running the module close to as-written?
  2. Or continue to wait for this game to start while I continue to work on the customization?

Gotta run, but feel free to chime in with thoughts/preferences. There are no wrong answers. I just know this game has taken a long time to get started already so I wanted to take a pulse on the patience everyone has.

My answer is always the same - the one that will bring the GM the most joy as this will allow all us players to have the most fun.

I have no preference either way, so ditto.

Still here and no rush. I can see the value in customization, as it's a pretty well-used module, and changes will make it fresh for everyone.

no preference either way

I've been thinking about this game a lot the last couple of days. A few things:
  1. I think I am going to go with a hybrid customization route, which will take more time. (Also, see point 3, below.). I will probably do very little to customize low-interest NPCs (e.g. general farmers, etc...); maybe just a name change? For more interesting or involved NPCs, they'll get a name change plus a lot more.
    .
  2. I might have settled on a new "big" element for this campaign in the form of an entirely new (and unsuspected) BBEG. I don't want to share more at this point, but I really like the potential of this possibility.
    .
  3. Unrelated to D&D (but leaving D&D as collateral damage), I officially committed myself to learning new skills which will benefit me professionally. My knowledge in this area is extremely limited as I type this, so this change will be a massive undertaking on my part and will require a lot of dedication and focus, plus time.
This will obviously cut into the time I have available to spend preparing for this and any other game endeavors I'm a part of, but I'm finding it increasingly necessary as the (now seven) months without income or benefits are really starting to take its toll (both mentally and financially).
