Mudlark trots up. Oh, Gann, ya gullytrop! Din I tell ya to be sure of your exit?

Once she's sure the boy is ok -ish, where she can talk to him: Yer got the skies, but yer crushed. Give me the boot, and gain half- or we take yer boot, and ye go hungry. Know it? (Translation from Thief's Cant: You got the prize, but you're caught. If you give it to me, I'll split the value with you- or we take it away from you, and you get nothing. Do we have a deaL? )

Mudlark's Charisma is 12- I hope that's enough for Ganavette to realize he can trust her.
The boy is wailing in pain holding himself and rolling on the packed earth. It is somewhat comforting to Mudlark he is not bleeding, but he is also too engrossed in his own pain to respond to her.

"Crime doesn't pay, our folk often say."

The elf takes the instrument from Vatn, inspecting it for obvious damage before securing it away to return.

"Now we just need to know why this young fellow was desperate enough to filch this thing right out in front of everyone as he did."

Nesta also keeps his eye on the crowd and his surroundings, concerned about how the townies will perceive this encounter.
Nesta, similar to Thrainel, notices a few concerned passersby are distracted by the boy wailing in pain but otherwise do not interfere after determining his injuries are being addressed by a cleric. Their behavior confirms that although these are slums and the general character of the area is destitute, the citizens seem genuinely sympathetic.

Round 3 - Chase concluded

The manager of the makeshift bath house is uncertain in action. He sweeps away the scattered pieces of the wooden stool to allow Vatn to care for the boy. He waves the onlookers away as if to protect the boy's dignity. "Please help him... brother? father? friar? " the portly man pleads with Vatn unsure how to address him but recognizing the holy symbol decorations. "The Civic Temple is not far, west of here, it has a shrine to Njord, if your god's powers may heal his injuries."

Vatn

Vatn will cast his Cure Light Wounds spell on the boy. He will then take him to the shrine. "We need to head to the shrine to finish your care."

Thinking the shrine should be a more private place to talk with him even if he doesn't need more healing.

Nesta picks up on the plan to get out of the public eye before interrogations begin.

"I will lend a hand in getting this poor soul to the Temple."

He assists their cleric with any heavy lifting, checking if the way is clear for them to leave this area to the west.

"Good sir", he addresses the portly bath owner. "If there are any damages you would like to report, I am sure some compensation can be agreed upon once this mess is all sorted out."

Vatn

Vatn will also make sure that Noden gets a good sniff of the boy and his clothing, in case he gets away again and we decide he needs to be tracked down.

"See Noden, he is friendly, smell him and see."

Note that Vatn has a 15 Chr if he needs to convince the merchant or boy of his plan.

Tove

Seeing the boy take a tumble, Tove stops her pursuit and takes up a position watching the crowd and making sure none interfere. She winces at the boy's cries of pain, mostly because of the unwanted attention it might bring. He brought it on himself by his actions so she has little sympathy for him at the moment. Nonetheless, she will offer her assistance to carry him to the healers if needed.

Mudlark
Mudlark starts scanning the crowd- more to watch for pickpockets than anything else.

Thraniel briefly considers throwing a few coins the shopkeeper's way, but remembering the meager store of coins remaining to his pouch, he thinks better of it, at least for now. He quickly starts to follow Mudlark, who seems to know what's going on here.

Thorily keeps a few paces between her and the other ones gathering around the weeping boy, watching out for unwanted attention as well.

As the situation seems to remain under control, she closes in.

"The temple it is then. Sounds like a wise choice. C'mon boy, let's go. What were you doing snatching that anyway?"

She turns to her newfound friends and says, in a lower voice.

"Must have been an order job. My guess is someone really wants that tool. We should check it and see if there's something special about it. Could be anything, like initials or such. Maybe it's enchanted. Let's get to the temple and gather ourselves."

She smiles warmly to the crowd as they leave.

Vatn will cast his Cure Light Wounds spell on the boy. He will then take him to the shrine. "We need to head to the shrine to finish your care."
The boy ceases his wailing and moaning after a mere few moments of healing have passed. Falling silent and releasing a breath of relief from the pain, the boy remains uneasy and frozen in his place.

The bathhouse owner finishes paceing around in fascination, noting every gesture of Vatn's healing administration. He breaks the silence encouraging Vatn with astonishment, "Truly magnificent - your devotions were accepted before our own eyes! How effortlessly the clerics of Njord channel healing powers upon the injured and ill!"

He stands over Vatn and the healed boy, raising his finger to point west: "The Civic Temple is on the waterfront. When you reach the Temple, kindly recite my name among your blessings." He then points to a roughly hewn, wooden sign tied around the center barrel etched in simple letters that reads "Cleanse yourself here at Sabbon's Baths, 5cp each"

"See Noden, he is friendly, smell him and see."
Noden replies to Vatn more in his posture than in his eyes. He approaches to sniff the boy's bare feet and finishes with a lick of his own nose. The canine companion then begins a full body shake, starting from the head and rippling his fur in waves down to his tail.

From his seated position on the street, the boy's eyes dart in all directions to assess his new situation and strange events. In particular, his eyes alternate between Vatn and Mudlark.

Overhearing the boy's response, Thrainel now confidently detects some relationship or history between the young human boy and girl with auburn braided hair standing in front of him. Although Thrainel is fairly certain there is no family resemblance between them, he estimates the boy is perhaps 11 to 12 years old whereas Mudlark is perhaps 17 to 18. The fisherman's hat tied around his neck is oversized for someone his age and size, as are his similarly bedraggled clothes. The boy wears no shoes, a tell tale sign of a poor upbringing and low social status.

From Vatn's side, Tove observes the wondrous healing the cleric of Njord performs on the injured boy, which restores his spirit of strength. The crowd around them has essentially moved on and only new onlookers slow down to observe the disturbance before proceeding. The large leather backpack's contents are bulky and awkwardly shaped. The backpack has a lid clasped shut with metal hooks attached by straps. It is weathered and clearly older than the boy that attempted to carry it off.

@Mattias, does this imply that Thorily grabs the backpack?

"Let me help you raise him, master elf..." the bath owner offers Nesta. He kneels to the street and grasps the boy's side nearest him and assists. As he does so, Nesta notices a small tattoo on the man's inner wrist of simple design. Together with the bath owner, Vatn, Tove, and Nesta lift the boy to his feet but he quickly falls limp, as if boneless and saturated with liquid.

Vatn

"Come along now Ganavette, I swear on Njord himself I mean you no harm."

He turns to the merchant.

"Thank you good merchant Sabbon, I will add your name to my blessing, you have been most helpful."

Or wait. I was assuming someone else did, but reading back I see no one explicitly stated that? (Reading just quickly now.)

If no one else grabs the backpack, Thorily does! She won't leave it in the streets when they leave for the temple.
