Beetles A Fire!
Initiative Order: Kol & Beetles (1), Raz & Vesper (3), Mag (4),

Beetles Initiative: [1d6]=1
Kol initiative: [1d6]=1

"Bugs for everybody!" Kol yells, leaping forward to attack. Unable to swing her two-handed sword in these tight quarters, she instead uses it like a spear and skewers one of the beetles, killing it instantly!
Kol attack: [1d20+1]=18+1=19 [1d10+3]=2+3=5

With the death of one of their number, the other beetles hiss and charge!
Two beetles attack Kol, snapping at her legs, nearly taking one off with a deadly mandible bite!
Beetles attack: [1d20]=17 [1d20]=13 [2d4]=7 [2d4]=5
The other beetles spread out attacking, Raz, Starkad, and Vesper, two a piece!
Raz is able to fend off his attackers, while swinging at them to no avail.
Beetles attack: [1d20]=13 [1d20]=5 [2d4]=6 [2d4]=4

Starkad isn't as lucky, as one of the beetles manages to cut a chunk out of his knee!
Beetles attack: [1d20]=17 [1d20]=6 [2d4]=3 [2d4]=4
He tries to fend one off with his broad sword, but cannot damage the critter. Starkad attacks: [1d20]=13 [1d6+3]=4+3=7

Vesper finds herself in a similar predicament, especially when one of the beetles manages to take a chunk out of her thigh!
Beetles attack: [1d20]=8 [1d20]=19 [2d4]=7 [2d4]=4
The pain is intense, but she holds her ground and slashes the beetle with her longsword.
Sword damage: [1d8]=2

Across the room, Mag and Moan are able to block the door.

Blood squirting out of the hole in her leg, Kol growls out some barbaric war cry and jabs at the beetle before her, doing damage, but not enough to kill it! Kol attack: [1d20+1]=17+1=18 [1d10+3]=2+3=5
The beetles attack her, but she fends them off this round, limping backward, kicking dirt at them.
Beetles attack: [1d20]=11 [1d20]=11 [2d4]=6 [2d4]=8

Two beetles attack Raz, but he is able to dodge and jump out of reach of their snapping mandibles. He attacks back, but swings wildly, hitting nothing but air. Beetles attack: [1d20]=10 [1d20]=11 [2d4]=5 [2d4]=2
Vesper is also able to fend off the beetles attacking her, and then kills the one she wounded a few seconds earlier with a slash to its head! Beetles attack: [1d20]=3 [1d20]=5 [2d4]=5 [2d4]=3

Starkad isn't so fortunate, as his lone adversary ignores his attack, and bites deep into the druid's thigh! Blood spurts and Starkad jerks backward, limping badly. Beetle attack: [1d20]=20 [2d4]=6 (Per our house rule, a critical hit does max damage, which in this case is 8 pts.)

Moan and Mag join the fray, one helping out Kol, the other Vesper. The ranger slashes at one of the beetles near Kol, but is unable to damage it. Mag charges toward Vesper and drives his sword into the side of the remaining beetle attacking her! The beetle doesn't fall over dead, but it does run around in a circle, hissing loudly.

In the quarry mines outside of Red Larch, the companions jab and stab at the giant beetles intent upon making them their next meal!
Kol jabs at her hard-shelled foe, but is unable to fully wield her two-handed sword in here, and misses.
The beetle ignores her efforts and takes another chunk out of her leg!

Mandibles clacking and hissing angrily (or hungrily?), the other beetles attack! But despite all their efforts, the companions come through unscathed and no chunks of flesh missing!
However, the companions are unable to do much better, Mag being the only one able to strike effectively...as he kills the lone beetle attacking Vesper.

Actions!
The map is pretty much the same, except the beetle attacking Vesper is now dead.

Just noticed I messed up his plus to hit. It should be +4 not +1.

From Beetle-juice to Beetle-guts!

Limping around and cursing, Kol drives her sword into the beetle intent on eating her, and finally slays the critter!
A few feet away, Starkad's foe bites another chunk out of the druid's thigh! He hollers in agony and staggers back, even as Vesper begins to hurry over to distract the giant bug.
A beetle attacks Moan, managing to take a large chunk out of the ranger (7 pts) before Moan dives his sword through its back, killing it!
The two beetles against Raz finally find a way to harm the nimble Gnome, and both bite him in the legs, slicing him to the bone! (8 pts) Raz tries to counter but his wounds affect his ability to connect.
Another beetle tries in vain to get past Mag's armor, and that is its last action because Mag nearly takes its head off!
