Only Combat Proficiency requires specialization. This specialization should be a particular weapon (e.g. Laser Pistol), or Unarmed. Goran has Combat (Grappling) which I'm taking as a synonym for Unarmed, but I'm willing to grant that, in an edge case where Goran is rolling a contested check to grapple an opponent who also has the Unarmed Combat skill, I'd favor Goran with advantage. But I think this is more of a flavor thing, than anything.1 Animal Handling

The rules do say:
So, if you want to be more specific in any of your skills, you may be. But then you only have advantage in the specialization, not the broader category.New skills may be created, as long as they are more specific than those above (e.g. Marine Biology).
Does that make sense?
