Adventure on the p[lanet Grans

#1 Post by ateno »

The ship is given clearance to leave, "Good luck in your search." is the last you hear of them.

Approaching Fort Island from the north shows very light traffic. As you approach the island you see many modified zeppelins on your scanner in the wind. There are none
within 10 miles of where you are going.

Pulling around the mouth of the river of the city north of the Fort due to increased traffic (appears to be fishing). You are sure that a couple boats saw you though.

The clear day allows for a visual approach, the white speck is seen in the distance, vision amplification shows a ship sitting inside the walls on the non-road side.

Getting a good altitude for Intel gathering the following is learned.

1 - the ship inside the fort is hooked up to tubes that lead in to the forward(as ship lies) ammo warehouse.
2 - the lower walls below the fort have been destroyed and flattened, 4 dozen vehicles are parked there
3 - there are electric lights
4 - there is a large L shaped dock on the water now, no sailing ship.
5 - the deck of the fort is still packed earth, the train north out of the fort has been switched to asphalt.
6 - there appears to be a orchard just north of the fort and a garden east of the fort, each as bog or bigger than the fort.
7 - the 4 dozen cars appear to be a 'scout' troop of 75 young adolescents. Each has a rifle
8 - there is a rifle range south east of the fort.
9 - there is a huge access valve on the north side set into the wall. (6-8")
10 - there are 4 mansion size houses a good distance awya north East of the fort. (majority of the city is farther NE and over the other side of the hill.
11 - All four corners are in good repair
12 - There is a radio and radar receiver on the top of the roof.

Sensors show a hard paint and at the same time a radio says: "Unidentified starship 2 kilometers off 'Fort Chicong', identify your self and state intentions, the approved spot for landing your ships is north."

The bridge speaker says, "Identified extreme radio and radar interference, do you wish to initialize the EW station?

Does anyone have anything specific they want to check out?

Garett uses the sensors to map the area, taking video and identifying the various landmarks within it. She also locates the sources of the EM interference, and records details about the various transmitters. Lastly, she scans specifically for the blasting charge she'd read about to see if it may have been discovered and removed.

OOC Clarification:
By "boat" you mean "small watercraft" as opposed to "space going ship's boat", correct?
By "ship" you mean "naval vessel" as opposed to "Star ship", correct?
By "vehicles" you mean some kind of wheeled or tracked ground vehicle, as opposed to watercraft, or something more exotic?

Sorry, but when playing Traveller, it can be unclear to me what is referred to when nautical terms are used.

Hiro makes sure that recordings are being made of all sensor observations, with the intent to produce an annotated map later.

Hiro looks to make sure one or more crew is manning the sensor station, asks if they need any help with collecting on the EM emissions, requesting to see if they can triangulate on the source as our ship moves past, before finally responding to the radio call.

"Sorry, Fort...uh...Chi-Kung. We are simply transiting the airspace. No intent to land. Do you wish for us to take any action? Or just carry on? Over." replies Hiro in a casual, unhurried tone, drawing out the conversation. If Fort Chicong wishes us to adjust our course, Hiro will comply, first radioing confirmation, then executing the change in an unhurried fashion, probably exiting out of their airspace before completing the maneuver.

Ship - Navel Vessel is in this case a Air ship otherwise you are correct, I will attempt to specify in the future.

Garrett, You do get a reading that does look a little fishy, Using ground penetrating radar you see what could be a open space or that its full of water. There is a difference and non natural work done there. You figure your 75% sure that the story could pan out.
Using visulal you do see a few red rocks mixed into the surrounding soil, and there is one large red rock in the spot mentioned.

Again the bridge speaker says, "Identified extreme radio and radar interference, do you wish to initialize the EW station?

Monte, using the triple turret's targetting system because the weapons have longer range and a defensive role, and so better sensors, searches for threats. The ship is painted, yes, but is it targetted, and if so, by what systems? Are there AA guidance sets active, or is it just ATC?

Garett turns her attention to the EM sensors and tries to characterize and localize the radar and radio signals.

Hiro, wanting to give Garrett and Monte as much time as possible to work on their intelligence collection, takes a good three-count before responding on the radio.

In a slow casual manner, Hiro responds with a bit of an affected false drawl "Sorry, Station B6. Didn't realize we were in controlled airspace. Turning right to 185, for immediate transit." Hiro turns to Marco says "Bring us around to 185 real gentle. Less than tenth g turn. Like you are flying a commercial aircraft. When they call back hopping mad, plan to execute a LEFT turn to 285, the correct heading, a bit faster and tighter turn. By turning the wrong way, we should 'loop' around the fort." To the entire crew, Hiro says over the intercom "We have directions from the aerospace control and acting like we are blundering in following their directions. Be alert for attack. All lasers, sand and EW on standby. If they fire on us, sand and EW are cleared to degrade any inbound missiles. Lasers fire only as final protective fire against missiles. Weapons tight other than self protective fire."

With Monte manning the port turret, from his workstation on the bridge, Hiro mans the starboard laser turret, and straps himself in.

Garett, you have experience with this, you can switch the holographic terminal to more EW oriented with some words and finger pressing on holo choices.

There are 2 emitters that has you under their watch, the strongest is to your 090, east, the next strongest is south of that, less of a signature at about 115 true.
The radio comms are coming from 090.

There are other radar signatures up and down the coast but their strength seems that they could not see you unless they were told where to look.

After 30 seconds

"Unknown Starship, turn to 2 - 8 - 5 immediately or we will launch fighters to escort you out of our air space. You will be fined 2000 credits for every 15 seconds you do not comply. Respond. Over.

On the landward side (where the airship is inside the walls, there is a road to the 8" tube that heads thru the wall, much of the vegetation in this area has died,

Garett sends graphics depicting the radar and radio sites on the master plot, showing the emitters' locations and probable ranges. On her own display, she shows the emitters' types, operating frequencies, and visual images of the installations. "Here's what's painting us right now," she announces. "Looks like a single installation, but I'm refining that now."

Hiro responds "Turning to 2-8-5 immediately." Then to Marco "Hard turn LEFT, to 285, and accelerate." Whike Marco begins his turn, Hiro broadcasts over the intercom "Brace for maneuver"

The Train turns using the maneuver drive heads out of the airspace, turns north to get around the island to transit to the island.

Lt. Sir Dryr who asked to be on the bridge during the flight and was very good.

"They have removed the buildings on the water side and the mansions are new. Where those academy or some sort of boys club? Was that some sort of filling tubing where a magazine was?

Maris the guide has taken over a table in the past section and cleaning his weapons and checking ammo.

heading north and a bit later east around the head of the island, about 20 minutes later, radar picks up a small contact on a intercept course.

On radio a bit later.

"Unidentified starship, stand by for visual id, request ships name please?"

You can see a distance away their version of a airplane.

"Underneath the pane you see a 9" tube almost as long as the plane, safely above the landing gear though.

Garett steers the forward ventral camera to get a better look. "If that's a gun, it'll blow off the propeller when they fire it."

Hiro permits Lt Sir Dyver and the guide access to the two spots mentioned, but makes sure the recruit escorts are following both.

To Lt Sir Dyver, Hiro says "I am unsure what we are seeing. We will consolodate the intel later, with your help."

Hiro does not respond to the radio call, but mutters to no one in particular "Bought themselves an off world spinal mount for their powered kite?!" To the entire crew "Marco, maneuver as you see fit. Do your best to extend away on current course, breaking line of site or evading as you see fit. Feel free to use hypersonic, nape of the earth, or Aerospace flight. Engineering, do what you can to give helm as much maneuver power as you can. Sensors, keep a close eye on the EW signature of the weapon on that aircraft. Turrets, standby for SAND launch as soon as sensors identifies the weapon is preparing to fire."

Monte has been focused on the aircraft since it first appeared, trying to focus on it with weapon sensors designed for thousands of kilometers.
