Awesome. This is the info for Bushi from the Samurai (Buke) Caste.
Initial Skills
Buke: Katakana at (2 x Wit) + (10 x RF)
Hiragana at (2 x Wit) + (10 x RF)
Kenjutsu score +5 in initial score
Court Dance
choice of 1 Fine Art
All Samurai: +5 to Bajutsu score
Kanji at (2 x Wit)
Profession
Bushl
Attribute Modifiers Hit Point Die
Budoka
INITIAL SKILLS: Kenjustsu; Kyujutsu; choice of any 2 Bugei; choice
of 1 from: Armory, Bowyer, Go, Musical Instrument, Physician,
Hawking. If character is in service add Bajutsu.
INITIAL GOODS: a bow of proper man-rating, choice of type; a
a quiver; 4D6 arrows of any type of head; a weapon for each
Bugei*. If character is not of Buke Caste, add a Wakizashi for
Kenjutsu.
Armor: Buke add 1D3 to Armor Class of armor; other receive
suit of Ashigaru-style armor of Armor Class Rank Factor + 1D3. If
there is no appropriate suit of armor in the Armor Class listing
that corresponds to the indicated Armor Class, the character
starts with no armor.
NOTES: Any character from a Caste other than Buke choosing this
Profession immediately gains 5 points of On.
This is the most recent Bushi template that I have.

It doesn't lay out all possible Bonus Skills like the Ninja does. I won't have time to update it today, so I am posting it as-is.

You automatically know:
  • Kenjustsu (+5);
  • Kyujutsu;
  • Bajutsu (+5);
  • choice of any 2 Bugei;
  • Court Dance
  • One Fine Art of your choice
  • choice of 1 from: Armory, Bowyer, Go, Musical Instrument, Physician, Hawking.
Roll:
[1d6+15] age
[1d10] hit points
[3d3] armor class
[1d20-1] sword quality (1 is superior, 2-4 is good)
[1d100] chance of warhorse (30%)
[4d3] gp [4d6] sp [4d6×10] cp

...though you can pick any Fine Art and any bugei, there are the ones that are bonus Skills (i.e. they add your level to the BCS):

Okay, here's a sheet you can start to play with then!



That's an average quality sword, but you do have a warhorse and you have Heavy Samurai Armor (AC 7), which weighs 40lbs.

...Strength and weight will be a factor for you. See what weapons and armor you'll be carrying around (and what's on your horse) and then look at the encumberance on the sheet. On the development tab you can set the encumbrance level at the top to see what it does with scores. You might invest enough in Strength to carry your stuff unencumbered. You might settle for being Lightly Encumbered in your armor. You might trade your armor down for something lighter.

Edit:
I fixed some mistaken formulas I noted and reposted. Also rolled your level two hp, since you're not starting at level 1.

Okay, we are adding Rex as a Bushi. Grognardsw isn't going to be able to commit to both games at this time. Ffilz, let me know if you want to make another character or just play Keiso. We are shifting to "adventure mode" so if you want to play Motoyuki as a more typical Bushi and ignore politics, I can make that work, too.

I'd be happy to play Motoyuki as a more typical Bushi.

And I still need to find time to make a ninja for the other game...

The past several weeks have been really hard to find time between vacations, taxes, and my work cycle leaving me with less "I need to rest my brain from work" time.

Oh, and I've gotten back into Lego building so my "free time" evenings have been spent more on that and less on gaming...

I will go with Oguroyumi for her clan. It sounds like they are commonly used as bodyguards/mercs maybe some angle with that on why she left.

Not a lot about them - see the snippet below. Also, you would know that three of the four Bushi in the Daimyo's personal bodyguard are from your clan. (Maybe you're related to them and that's why you're in Takayama?)

Downtime thread is open.

Rex, you are starting at level 2 and get the same 4 weeks downtime as the others. Once you have your level 1 character built, you will get four weeks/turns that you also can train skills at the War School. Just explain some connection to your kin on the Daimyo's personal bodyguard.

Hey Rex! Checking in. Let us know what help you need to finalize the Bushi. :)

I'm going to write up the beginning of Chapter 6 so you can all start roleplaying there - you can jump in freely, even as we finish up the sheet. Knowing you're a female Oguroyumi Bushi who is related to one of the Daimyo's personal guards is enough to start the roleplay.

This is the sheet that I have for you - if you request access I can make you an editor. (I've lost track of if this is the real sheet or if you are maintaining it.)

Yeah, bronchitis really does suck. I used to be prone to it, but for some unknown reason I haven't had it in over 10 years. Maybe because I stopped commuting to NYC(?)

That seems like a very real possibility. I have several underlying conditions and my doctors have told me certain things should be off limits as much as possible, gyms, public transportation, events with big crowds, air planes, cruise ships etc. this one came home with my wife unfortunately. I have already outlived the average life expectancy by 10+ years for one of my conditions, one advantage of living in a rural area I suspect.
