UE Issue #2: The Dragon Shield

The 'Dragon Shield' Car Chase

10:45 PM Local Time – Sunday, June 21st, 1987

The film scene was to have the female henchperson having just stolen the titular Dragon Shield being in a chase that comes down Grove St, it will then cut through the Ping Tom Memorial Park and then have her escape by jumping the Chicago River onto the ferry. The effect is supposed to have a big explosion. The production has set-up a viewing location in the Ping Tom Memorial Park. Because of permits and the like the sequence is being filmed out of order the park and jump will happen first and the chase down grove will happen later in the night. The crowd is starting to get restless, but the film crew is here to get the shot, not to entertain the crowd.

• Eclipse you have found a two story building of shops from which to watch the action and not have your glow attract attention, it is located on the northern side of S Tom Parkway (see map)
• Azir you are part of the crowd located near the ferry terminal. You are in your secret Id and have brought your brother to see the stunt.
• Dos Seso following a hunch and is lurking near the production trailers, where you watched an armored car dropping offer a wooden box that is about 4.5 ft on a side and about 8 inches thick. Also being "delivered" with the wooden box was a very nervous looking woman in her mid-forties wearing an ankle length skirt and blouse with some kind of badge clipped to the blouse. You cannot make out the location of badge.
• Wind Dragon is not known to be in the area.

That is the scene when the action starts:

Azir

During a moment that it is obvious to anyone thinking about the situation it is not being filmed (they have not called "on quiet on the set" and the actors (Pierce Brosnan as James Bond and Jocelyn Dukart as a beautiful French henchperson of the villain) are working on some chorography in a fight scene. Coming out a utility tent is a male just under 2m in height, dressed in a Turquoise colored costume and he heads straight for the two actors and the chorographer. You are about 15 hexes (30 m) away from the action with two rows of people in front of you and wooden security barrier. If you are looking for somewhere private, on this of the security barrier, there are four porta-potties at the back of the crowd. The crowd is inching forward as they think that this part of the film.

Dos Seso

You see a two individuals (a male dressed all in grey with a turquoise colored shield and brown animal skin boots and a female dressed all in goldish yellow with brown animal skin boots. They are exiting from the trailer that the package was delivered to earlier. You had not seen the nervous woman leave the trailer.

Eclipse

Sadly you are not in a position really to see any of this action. You are waiting for the big explosion. You will need to wait for a call from one of your teammates.

It should be assumed that your team has their communicators, CHIP is active and the 8 cameras have been installed at the base.

On CHIP, "Something is wrong here, going to need help now."

To her brother, "Stay here and be safe."

She moves to change in a port-pottie ASAP.

I'm not even sure we each know that the others are here?

"Crowd, not as Azir, heading for the porta potties to become Azir."

Eclipse scans the crowd area for the location of the porta-potties, and starts to fly in that general direction.

Some updates for the team

Azir - The porta-potties are about 1/2 move away. Some of the porta-potties are occupied. Since you have 2d6 Luck, please give me a luck roll [_2d6] and if you get any 6's then I will not roll to determine if you find an empty or full one. Once you find a place, just so you know the rules in Champions you can change into your costume as a full action (or two half actions)

Azir - As mentioned the porta-potties are about 1/2 move away. You are lucky and find an unoccupied one. You are able to enter and begin your change into your costume.

Eclipse - You are able to find them with little problem, they are about 3 of your moves away and you can start heading that way.

He cocks his head to the side and scratches his chin as he sees the figures exit the trailer. As he begins to wonder about the badge wearing lady, he hears Azir speak in his ear. "Something is wrong here, going to need help now." He hesitates a moment then hears the exchange between his teammates. He nods and makes up his mind.

He engages his mic. "Let me know if you additional assistance. There is something off over here at the production trailers and it is possible that someone is in trouble. The shield that is being used for this movie happens to be from the museum and is some sort of antique. This could be a heist. I've seen two figures leave a trailer that I believe the shield was in and the person I would assume is guarding it hasn't appeared. I'm going to investigate."

Dos Seso will look to step into an area where no one can see then change into his costume and head to the trailer. If it looks difficult to be secluded, he will use Out of Mind, Out of Sight to hide himself then change.

To summarize the "pre-action"

Azir spent one and a half actions to make it to the porta-potties change into her costume and then need to let me know the direction that she wants to move (she has a half-move pre-action). The crowd between you and the "action" is about 75 people including Kadar being held back by a wooden security barrier. You are 6 hexes from the barrier and 13 hexes from the The man in the turquoise costume has approached the two actors and picked up the shield that was sitting on the Jocelyn Dukart's chair. Pierce Brosnan is standing up to the turquoise dressed man.

Eclipse you started 45 hexes moves away from the action and spend the two "pre-action moves coming 30 hexes to the scene. When we call for Segment 12 you will start 15 hexes from the action at a height of 4 hexes. You see the same scene as described for Azir.

The shield is a composite of these two images. The main shield looks like the one with the four dragons on it (first image), with two modifications. (1) The turquoise color is richer (like the second image) and the center of the shield has the same center image from the second picture.

Dos Seso you spend a moment to find a "hiding spot", but just to be sure you use your Out of Mind, Out of Sight power to change and then make it back to the original spot. The two individuals have got on to a golf cart and the woman is gold is driving and the man in grey is riding in the back with the shield. You are starting 8 hexes away from the cart.

Azir: I still owe you a half move. Please describe you half (from last action). Then your Initiative roll. Assuming you beat Turquoise Guy on Initiative you can act after Eclipse (otherwise you will have act after the Turquoise Guy.

"Roger, Dos Seso. There is one target here, who has the shield. Which way did the other two go?"

To the Turquoise Guy:

"This city is under the protection of The Crusaders. Put down the shield and surrender!"
