CHAPTER 12b: The Fortress of the Plain

#1 Post by Norjax »

Fortress Interior 346D/81 (Evening)

Image

Kurot allows Saiph to ride his shoulder and lead the way to the light curtain.

OOC: I volunteered Kurot.

Podo grabs Denslow and Silvestri to follow their lead. The others fall in line.

You enter the sound dampening field once more and communication is impaired. As you near the exit, two columns of black-robbed humanoids with red metallic masks covering their faces are marching towards you. They are identical to the other humanoids except for the color of their masks.

Image

Above the corridor you just left, an object or entity is descending from above. It has two black lobes on its shell that vibrate and are blurry.

Image

OOC: This is at the end of Round 2 when the opponents emerge. It will take Round 3 to reach the curtain and Round 4 for Saiph to make his attempt.

Silvestri

"Look after Saiph, Podo, but please let me down, I need to deal with the metal critter"

Initiative: [1d20]=19

Silvestri focuses and brings forth his power of Magnetic Control, lines of force start to radiate from his body but stutter and fall inwards and Silvestri screams:

Magnetic Control: [1d20+8]=1+8=9

oh %*$@

Denslow says I can get choppy but I don’t wish to hold up progress. I suggest you drop me off and I help defend when we get to the curtain.

Urlando
Being at the rear, Urlando drops back to attack the floating metal sphere creature. He loops around to approach from a different angle than Needle and swings with his morningstar.

oof. Now what do I roll on the fumble table?

Urlando stumbles, and...

... falls to the ground, where he will spend the next round prone.

Podo

Podo sets down whomever would like to be set down and picks up whomever would like to be picked up (I've completely lost track lol) and continues moving toward the exit before the 3 robed figures can catch up to them. He knows they have already seen two forms of floating creatures, some that repaired the wall and some that shocked them, perhaps this new type is of the more helpful variety.

I double move or use as much movement as I am able to follow Saiph to wherever they are going, while assisting Max as needed/wanted.

Walking, but vulnerable to attack.

---
Everyone has posted their Round 2 actions. I'll work through the resolution.

Not the best round for the characters.

Round 2

Silvestri is let down by Podo and initiates his manipulation of metallic objects. Lines of force begin to radiate out towards the target but suddenly collapse back into the psionist’s body! (DMG 28 System Shock, power lost for the day)

Needle drops back and swings his battle axe at the floating construct, but the entity is just above his reach and the weapon arcs harmlessly through the air. (Miss)

Max positions himself towards the wall to avoid attention from the new adversaries.

Denslow, having been carried by Podo, drops to the floor and moves forward to defend the corridor of the light curtain.

OOC: If this assumption is wrong, let me know and I will retro.

Urlando joins Needle in attacking the floater. He loops behind the strange object, swings his Morningstar at the thing, stumbles (Fumble roll) and falls to the ground – prone! (spends next round recovering)

Kurot releases Saiph and aims his Pigmonn rifle at the AI brethren. He fires three shots in rapid succession, but all three deflect off the shell of the artificial creature. (Miss)

Saiph makes a movement into the corridor and to the light curtain.

OOC: Having been carried by Kurot, Saiph is able to make a normal movement to the light curtain. He may try his Molecular Disruption now, in Round 2.

Podo moves forward and positions himself at the corridor’s entry to make a stand against the oncoming, red-masked humanoids.

Anton provides cover for Max against any attack.

Denslow takes a defensive posture, being exactly where he wants to be. He will attack anyone who makes a move towards Saiph.

Just in case:
Denslow "and my axe" initiative [1d20-1]=17-1=16
Denslow choppy choppy axe attack [1d20+2]=20+2=22, dmg [1d8]=2
CRITICAL! [1d16]=16, table III

Ooo, I hope someone came in range!

Saiph positions himself in front of the light curtain, crosses all four sets of fingers and focuses his disruption power at the curtain:

Molecular Disruption: [1d20+1]=14+1=15

Saiph needs 9 luck points to hit the 24 he needs!

SIlvestri

The psion staggers to one knee as the electrical fields in the room disrupt his magnetic powers and turn them against him. He takes a breath and straightens, blood coming from his ears, eyes and nose. He wipes his bloody mouth on his sleeve and staggers 10' (1 sq) toward the approaching figures to the north and his body starts to hum as he focuses his power of pyrokinesis on the approaching figures:

Initiative: [1d20]=6

Pyrokinesis: [1d20+8]=11+8=19

I'll spend 5 luck to bring that up to 24:
Heat pulse in 20' radius for 3d6 dmg: Fire dmg: [3d6]=15

If others move before him and so the radius of damage would harm them, then (assuming I'm allowed) I would spend a single luck point to bring it to 20 and do 1d14 to a single target
