Marco asks regarding the man and his business. The flyer (is that the same as the Imperial wreck?), copies of the most recent communications they had between them. Flight paths and areas of exploration. Any salvage issues we can attend to. Details of the missing crew.
"Thank you for listening to me! I'm the Operations Director, which means I lube the gears to make our company work. We are looking for interesting surveys make claims to. Our flyer, is the scout ship and we assume it crashed. We hired it as a independent, they said they had training and gear to do preliminary mineral survey. They said they were scouts he says it like a odd taste and have done this and charged a fair fee, if they could deliver. We have a licensed charonic station we talked with them, they also talked to the starport for the official stuff. Ill have my girls wrote you up the conversations. I told them what island I wanted them to survey, I can point it out if you can show the planet for me. As for salvage, its your governments rules I suppose. But we hold rights to any information they got that we hired them to get. They reported in at assigned intervals and last report was they were going to pick up all their drones and head home in 2 days. That was over 10 days ago.

Hiro makes a point of introducing himself, Dev, and if he has returned from looking for parts, Monte. He will engage in friendly conversation and try to get a sense of what kind of people these players are.

Monte would follow Hiro and Dev there if nobody was on the ship to report to (after assigning guards from whatever crew are available)

Roll 9 Gambling rolls decide if your aggressive(harder roll, + money), neutral or carful(easier, less money). Int modified. compared to the other rolls of the 5 other players. GM does math to figure your winnings. Last pot is times x10 so I will let you decide your strategy with the results of the previous rolls.

This is mostly a social game, so food and drink and conversation is required, carouse roll also.

On the Train, things are a bit busy.

During change of shift you see the guards talking about a job involving going to another part of the world. They seem overly excited until you realize most of them have grew up or spent a long time on the previous world. Gunnar is in the engine room you expect.

They hired the scout ship three weeks (21 days) ago but lost contact 10+ days ago. (11th day), after it said it would collect drones and return home after two days. (So day 13+).

So one day may not present a problem. In effect it is a week overdue from expected return.

They want to hire us for a month, so excluding travel times to and from the survey area.

Marco will check with Garrett, figuring as an archaeologist she might have more experience with surveys and scout ship missions. He has some though they lean towards military covert seek and destroy rather than fact finding for minerals or anthropological reasons.

He questions the 'Charonic station'. His knowledge extends to Charon being the fabled ferryman taking lost souls across the Styx, so it must have something to do with 'the dead'?

He focuses on specific detail questions. The scout flyer, what sort of ship it was?, Tonnage, cargo, arms. How many crew? Captain's name. The flight path it took. Specialist equipment it may have taken to conduct the survey.

About the area. The physical geology, environmental dangers, any history of piracy or rogue trouble?

If Garrett is available, she can ask more relevant questions probably.

In the end, he will give a positive review to the Operation Director and let him know Captain Watanabe will make any final decisions. He understands there might be some urgency to the request but he cannot confirm taking the commission as it is above his authority. After concluding any talks he will ping a message with a brief over to Hiro to consider.

Gunnar finds a good spot to watch the starport traffic where he is close enough if the recruits need him.

Ophelia snickers a bit, "I will, but I think I heard something about what you need on the right, well now left as we head back to the ship. I think a mechanics shop"

True to her word, there is a aircraft body shop, many sounds of banging and tinging are heard. After a quick conversation, they can shape your pieces out of 16 gauge stainless steel in about 3-5 days, they can paint it with fire resistant white paint or enameled if you wish.
At present you have hardened plastic, as touch as aluminum. You could replace the exterior pieces with this but it will throw off the weight adjustment, but the gravitics are already misaligned and needs a reset anyway.

You make it back to the ship and the beer and burgers are passed around to the officers and then the crew.

Returning to the ship, Monte deposits the keg and leaves Ophelia to distribute her bounty (he doesn’t want to take anything away from her generosity by being around at distribution in case the crew thinks he contributed. Best to keep a kind thought pure.)
[/quote]

Gunnar Thunarssen is still guarding the entry hatch area when Monte and Ophellia return. "Much obliged. Hiro and Dev haven't returned yet. Garrett is inside somewhere."

Charonic station after some discussion you find that the local culture is using HAM radio in businesses, military and rich people, a local name.

Despite getting the impression that there is not much money making opportunities in this line of questioning, Hiro finds Lt Sir Dyer charming and entertaining, asking for even more details about the guides, rocket artillery and the Manshee, continuing to be an active and engaged listener.
Hiro's Deception roll [2d6+2]=6+2=8
Making a point to be convivial, Hiro gives Lt Sir Dyer as much conversation as he desires, staying at the club until it is time for the game of Shoot the Opening. For Hiro the stakes in the game are trivial, too little to be considered a useful contribution to the ship's operating expenses, so he is going to play in a friendly manner, matching the other players aggressiveness, looking to engage the other players in conversation, getting to know them.
Shoot the opening rolls

Carousing roll [2d6+1]=9+1=10

Hiro will play Careful the first round.

Rounds two to eight he will play as aggressively as the most aggressive player the previous round; that is, if everyone played careful last round, Hiro will play careful this round. if at least one person played neutral last round and no one played aggressive, Hiro will play neutral. If at least one person played aggressive last round, Hiro will play aggressive.

The last round, the ninth, Hiro will play aggressive

Gambling rolls [Gambling 3; INT A but I am unsure how this 'modifies the roll' so I did not include below]
Round 1 [2d6+3]=8+3=11
Round 2 [2d6+3]=12+3=15
Round 3 [2d6+3]=8+3=11
Round 4 [2d6+3]=5+3=8
Round 5 [2d6+3]=8+3=11
Round 6 [2d6+3]=6+3=9
Round 7 [2d6+3]=9+3=12
Round 8 [2d6+3]=7+3=10
Round 9 [2d6+3]=8+3=11

Out of nine rolls, the worst roll was an 8! :-) Hiro is a fairly mediocre crew member, but he is a "best on the planet" level gambler. LOL.
At the end of the day, Hiro will head back to the ship, escorting Dev and Monte, if they remained during the entire game.

"There wasn't a big opportunity at the club, like I hoped. Perhaps the others had better luck."

Monte is happy to be in a club again, and orders an Old-Fashioned. It is not, perhaps, a TAS, but it is better than a spacer’s bar.

Looking over the menu he invites Dev and Hiro (and the company they are keeping) to share a snack. He doesn’t want to sit down for a meal, merely to graze on something small and tasty.

He is not particularly interested in gambling himself, but he is happy to watch others do so.
It appears Monte is too busy assessing the qualities of the club to pay much attention to the veracity of the things its members say. They are gentlemen, so of course they won’t lie

While talking with Sir Lt Dyer and Dev, sipping a very old, dark rum on ice, Hiro sees Monte enter. Hiro rises, greats his crew mate, introducing him to their host. Hiro thanks Monte for his offer for refreshment and enjpoys the meal, continuing the conversation with Sir Dyer.

Right before the card game begins, Hiro receives the call from Marco. "Wonderful news. That certainly sounds promising. Great work! If you, Garrett and Gunnar can pull together any additional information on the scout ship or the island, that could be useful." HIro informs Monte and Dev of Marco's message.

Monte said:
He is not particularly interested in gambling himself, but he is happy to watch others do so.
"I promise. No showboating with our guests. I know: we are here to make friends." whispers Hiro to Monte before walking around the table to take his seat at the gaming table.

GM said:

After the card game Hiro casually receives his winnings. After the 300Cr to gain access to he club and pay for the first bottle of port, another 100Cr for more refreshments, and 130Cr in gambling winnings, Hiro is down 270Cr for the night, which is well in line with his expectations. Hiro makes a point to keep an eye on the player in the first chair, the gambler who lost the most, looking for any sign of anger or frustration, or the blase attitude of someone who could afford the loss.

Hiro says a formal goodbye to his new acquaintances, Sir Lt Dyer and Weaver Riley Davis, giving each a small card printed "Captain Hiro Watanabe" on the front, on the back printing in a fine cursive hand the starship's name, landing bay and the proper frequency to use to contact the ship by radio.

He has no further questions at this point. He can do some research on the island and this missing vessel during the next hours just to fill out any points glossed over.

He gives the business card to Hiro when he returns. He logs into the computer and any Starport database he can access with details on the island in question and any background research he can do on the scout ship and Captain Richilee, collecting newspaper articles, reports, pictures, history. Basically putting together a montage of notes that might be helpful such as prior space craft incidents, encounters that speak to reputation or notoriety, island geology and environmental landscapes, any distress signals broadcast. Any reports that the craft has actually been reported officially missing?

A map is brought up and:

All the way to the right in the bottom triangle, there is a island all to itself. that is the target.

Captian Richlee is well known in the Scout service, finishing a stellar career very early where everyone expected her to become Admiral of scouts in the next several years. She took a old scout (some say its the same tail number as what her grandfather flew). She is travelling around and taking odd jobs in a circular pattern around the empire. She seems to be taking low success jobs and making them work. She always seems to have enough money and always stays on the ship. No distress signals or other notices have gone out. The starport has reported it as missing at the 7 day mark of last contact, and reported return to port date.

There are no previous events that match the ship going out of contact. A few involving air steamers, but more than likely they are pirates or mechanical.

The landscape is slightly hilly and about have low birch trees and half moss.
