Sir Dewey

The wound is barely acknowledged by the Knight as he calls out to his companions "Stay strong! We have righteousness on our side! Ygg will prevail!"

He spots the two trying to rush over the barricade and tries to intercept.

The Saurons' Mound interior:

Next round resolution.

Foxrell and Guard One both kill opponents, guard two takes a wound and falls unconscious. Sun Tsieng Roy, Cosmo and a skeleton dance around a sarcophagus. Blades of rust and iron, slim dirks and cleaving brutes clash but none hit home. Two warriors charge Vann Hector but neither undead or elf trade any effective blows.

Sir Dewey tries to focus upon as skeleton leaping the barricade but his direct opponent halts his intercession. The paladin smashes that undead infidel for a trio of kills.

The barricade, breached on one side with fallen guardsmen. Numbers favour the defenders but then the Crypt Knight enters the fray. His first action is to 'coup de grace' the stricken militiaman with little grace, twisting his longsword into the man's spine with a vengeful thrust.

All those who have not faced the undead knight at close quarters need to make a save vs spells. Apply any Wisdom bonus.
Success means you can attack as normal, fail and you fall back to the ritual room in fear and suffer a -2 to hit penalty to attack him.
conditions and hp:
Sir Dewey 6/10
Vann Hector 4/6
Cosmo 1/4
Sun Tsieng 13/15
Foxrell 3/18
G1 8/8
G2 deceased
G3 deceased

Crypt Knight -7hp
Skeletons 8/13 deceased.

Two skeletons at the barricade, three in the mess hall, the Crypt Knight advancing.

Vann Hector

It all seems a bit too overwhelming for the young elf and he retreats to the comforts of a room filled with dead Saurons' and pentagrams.

Vann Hector: save vs Spells 15+ [1d20]=10

He has one bright idea, should have thought if it sooner. But the lizardman priest wielded two scimitars and Foxrell uses sabre and dagger. He might be better to switch weapons if he can as it gives an extra damage to the off hand.

Not sure what else I can do except defend myself from chasing skeletons.

Sir Dewey

The Knight stands tall at the barricade, facing down the unholy Knight. His aim, however, is thrown off by the despicable act of killing the downed guard.
"Have you no honor?! Face me you disgraceful blight upon the world!"

He attempts to bash the Crypt Knight away from the now gutted guard.

The Saurons' Mound interior.

The Mess Hall begins to live up to its name. Bodies of dead skeletons lying on top of fallen guardsmen lying in top of toppled statues. The gecko hacked asunder and Sauron guards and priests dragged to lie prostrate by the two sarcophagi.

A withdrawal through fear and tactics happens as Foxrell, the lone surviving Duchy conscript and Vann Hector run under duress to bottleneck the archway to the ritual room. They are followed by a quartet of skeletons and a new last line of defence begins. Foxrell and Vann Hector combine to equalise the odds, slaying one, the guard taking a wound -3hp for his trouble.

Cosmo and Sun Tsieng Roy have both met the fearsome presence of the crypt Knight before and remained stalwart in the face of living death. The monk seems to continue his streak of pacifism, beautiful flowing movements of a long glaive that dice and slice thin air around the skeleton who much more rustically hacks his leg with an ancient blade. Sun - 5hp

Cosmo, out of throwing daggers can swish with his pick. He misses. Sun Tsieng leaps acrobatically on top of the next sarcophagi, the skeleton chasing him with more bloodlust. It leaves the gnome free of direct combat.

Sir Dewey summons inner strength from oaths of his own. It helps him stand as other flee. He challenges the Black Legionnaire to single combat. He misses with his weapon but critically barges into the opponent with his shield, planting the noble heraldry of his ancestral house firmly into the breastplate of the White Rose emblazoned nemesis.

shame the critical was on the shield not the weapon. Shield bash does no damage but penalises the opponent.

The charge is effective to unbalance the knight and causes him to miss the paladin.
Sir Dewey, you took a volume from Mazzah, one of which detailed the exploits of Sir Torrick Eikensteig. During evening downtime, you read a little. Here is one benefit drawn as inspiration from biographies of heroes of old. Coming face to face with a knight level rather than common level warrior, you can take a single +1 to hit to your next attack.
next attacks and spells please.

Cosmo 1/4
Sun Tsieng 8/15
Foxrell 3/18

Crypt Knight -7hp

"Take your pick, boney" he snarls at the next available cranium-on-legs: Magic miner's pick: to hit [1d20+1]=9+1=10, DMG S/M [1d6+2]=1+2=3 L [2d4+1]=6+1=7 but probably fails to reach his target.

The Saurons' Mound interior

The Mess Hall melee continues.

Sun Tsieng Roy's blunt attacks are parried, he knocks the blade of the skeleton away. Cosmo cannot effectively team up with his bodyguard.

The trio of defenders in the ritual room trade blows and bodies, a skeleton falls to the floor.

The Crypt Knight advances upon the paladin but his mighty longsword arcs wide of Sir Dewey's head, clattering upon a shield raised in faith and hope. The paladins swings his mace in an equally wide swoosh, as the battle almost turns to slo-mo attacks.

Sir Dewey 6/10
Vann Hector 4/6
Cosmo 1/4
Sun Tsieng 8/15
Foxrell 3/18
G1 5/8

Crypt Knight -7hp
Skeletons 10/13 deceased.

Some close by, a hellish horse neighs, hooves thunder on a flagstone floor.

Sir Dewey

I forgot to mention that I liked your tie-in of the research from Mazzah. Nice touch. :D

The Knight continues his attack but so far he has only succeeded in blocking the Crypt Knight. He stays mum, trying to focus on the task...

Morningstar: [1d20]=10
Shield Bash: [1d20]=4

...to similar results

He hopes that his protection from evil will help him hold out until Ygg favors him once more. :D

is now beginning to suspect that this weapon maybe ain't that magic after all.

The Saurons' Mound interior

Vann Hector ripostes and lunges ineffectually, Foxrell just stabs a minor wound between skeleton ribs.

Guard One takes -4hp from a rusty axe that nearly scalps him. Sun Tsieng Roy crushes his skeleton opponent, finally slicing through bones with a temple glaive. Cosmo hacks but misses. He is not the only one.

The Crypt Knight hacks at the paladin, his blade smashing into his shield and denting his armour but not drawing noble blood. Sir Dewey needs to read more books on the arts of war.

Two skeletons remain, attacking those in the ritual room. Advantage to the defenders there. The Monk rushes to aid the paladin to double up attacks on the knight. The battle, by luck and good fortune swings to favour you but each defender is a wound away from death. Make your attacks count.

Vann Hector 4/6

Sun Tsieng 8/15
Foxrell 3/18
G1 1/8
G2 deceased

The Saurons' Mound interior.

Foxrell twists his dagger for another fracturing stab. Guard One finishes the skeleton off. Vann Hector misses, the final skeleton assaulting the ritual room is about to scalp the guard for real this time when it crumbles to the floor, bones splayed and spine shattered as a mighty pick hacks it apart. Cosmo getting in a killing blow.

Sun Tsieng Roy and Sir Dewey try to outflank the undead lieutenant but both riposte and lunge wide. The Crypt Knight ignores the taunts of the paladin, responding only with the tongue of his blade and actions that speak louder than words.

He pierces the stalwart through his torso and limply, the paladin falls, bleeding out on the floor and starting on his own stairway to heaven.

-9hp
There is only one action the defenders can do.
"Charge!" cries Foxrell and though penalised by the fearsome presence of the undead, they have to take his challenge head on.

actions Vann Hector & Cosmo please.
Please provide four actions or attacks so I can adjudicate how the fight goes.
To attend to Sir Dewey, you will need to succeed on a [4d6] vs Wisdom test help stabilise him.

Sir Dewey, roll a [4d6] vs Constitution to become stabilised or continue to bleed out at -1hp per round.

Conditions and hp:
Sir Dewey -3hp/10
Vann Hector 4/6
Cosmo 1/4
Sun Tsieng 8/15
Foxrell 3/18
G1 1/8
G2 deceased
G3 deceased

Crypt Knight -7hp
Skeletons 13/13 deceased.

Vann Hector

according to thief skill functions, I can use 'Move Silently' to try and gain a flanking or rear attack in a melee. If that is possible, to gain a +2 bonus to offset the -2 attack penalty, I will do that.

Here are the four attacks requested, using just the penalty on the macro.

Round 1: Vann Hector tries to move silently vs 20% [1d100]=13Vann Hector longsword melee [1d20-1]=2-1=1 damage [1d8]=3

Round 2: Vann Hector tries to move silently vs 20% [1d100]=91Vann Hector longsword melee [1d20-1]=13-1=12 damage [1d8]=7

Round 3: Vann Hector tries to move silently vs 20% [1d100]=72Vann Hector longsword melee [1d20-1]=7-1=6 damage [1d8]=5

Round 4: Vann Hector tries to move silently vs 20% [1d100]=93Vann Hector longsword melee [1d20-1]=3-1=2 damage [1d8]=7

Err .... yes, well ... this might not end well. Four attacks, four misses.

Nice idea, but this skill is not in the 1st ed class descriptions unless you can point to an oversight. Though certainly, working on MS to achieve such a feat might be something you can train for as a class or character skill. I can see an argument that if four of you attack the crypt knight, five with Cosmo if he doesn't attend to Sir Dewey, then giving one of you a rear attack bonus makes sense. So I will adjudicate on that as rolls come in.
