UE Issue #1: Introductions

If there is nothing else the team wants to discuss immediately, then Eclipse will return home. First thing tomorrow he plans to phone agent McGinley to let him know about the leadership situation and he then spends the morning on his day job. He plans to fly in to the new conference about half an hour before it starts.

Azir will return home, clean up and rest until the conference.

When the team arrives at the GOSH offices they find that Eclipse has arranged with agent McGinley for them to have a private room to meet in before the press conference.

"There was some information that agent McGinley has provided that everyone needs to be briefed on..."

The first item is a copy of the press briefing

New Chicago, Illinois / Wednesday, June 17th, 1987: GOSH today announces the start of the Mid-West premier hero team, The Crusaders. Following on from the trial blazed by the Defenders and the Minutemen, The Crusaders are a collection of local heroes that will protect the region from super powered threats and criminals alike. All four initial members of the Crusaders are registered with GOSH.

• The team will be led by the golden costumed Eclipse, a glowing beacon of reassurance in the sky.
• Azir is the intelligent, fun loving, strong and tough backbone of the team.
• Dos Seso, who's name means Two Brains, will no doubt supply wisdom to the team.
• Wind Dragon's wind-based powers will help him clean up our streets.
  For the teams first action as The Crusaders they were honored to be protecting Vice President Bush and his guests. We are pleased to report that they successfully defended the Vice President and the key attendees of his meeting from suffering any hardship, with all the key attendees escaping the attack under their own power. While the meeting was delayed because of the attack the Vice-President stated, “I am happy that the Crusaders were here today to help the Secret Service, to help protect me and our American way of life.” The identities of the attackers are not being released to stop them from getting the glory that they are obviously seeking.

He tells the team that GOSH has requested the following:

• No questions will be taken on who the attendees of the meeting were (besides the Vice President) or the business discussed.
• We will not be talking about the Four Tiger Squad members in any way.

He then provides some information he was given about Tiger Squad:

Some background on the Tiger Squad. All of which is classified and must stay within the Crusaders. There are 20+ members of the Tiger Squad, but they do not work together in a fixed manner. They are grouped based on the needs of the Chinese Government. The fourth member you did not catch the name of was "Peach Blossom Spirit". We suspect that she is one of the leaders of the overall organization, but that is unconfirmed.

Press Conference
John C. Kluczynski Federal Building 38th Floor, Downtown New Chicago
2:02 PM Local Time – Tuesday, June 16th, 1987

The press conference takes place in the lobby of the John C. Kluczynski Federal Building. There is a small stage with five podiums and microphones. Peter takes the right most microphone (from the audience point of view) and waits for the team to get on the stage. He reads the press statement (that was posted above), pointing to the various team members when he talks about each of them.

After that he opens it up to questions reminding each of the five reporters present (ABC News, NBC News, CBS News, Chicago Tribune and Jimmy Dugan) that they will given only two questions each.

The following is a list of the questions that are asked. Feel free to answer the questions that you want (as long as someone answers all of them and a few were directed at everyone and one at Eclipse)

Questions about the attack

• Can you tell us what happened at the attack?
• Can you be specific about the types of harm that occurred? If so, by whom and how bad? - Peter shuts this down with "The Crusaders successfully defended the Vice President and the key attendees of his meeting from suffering any hardship, with all the key attendees escaping the attack under their own power. That is as far as we can go at this time. Next question."
• Who attacked the Vice President and the team? - Peter shuts this down with "The identities of the attackers are not being released to stop them from getting the glory that they are obviously seeking. Next question."
• Who else attended the meeting with the Vice President? - Peter shuts this down with "Those questions will need to be asked of the Vice-President or the Press Secretary. Next question."
• Were the supers that attacked captured?
• Did the team have any forewarning that this might happen?
• Do you think The Crusaders handled the situation well enough and why?

Can each of you describe your super powers?

Eclipse smiles "I want to leave some surprises for the bad guys, but briefly my powers revolve around magnetism, which allows me to fly and move metal with my mind, amongst other abilities"

Can you each of you answer why do you consider yourself qualified for this position?

"Each of us are registered with GOSH and have undertaken the training the government deem necessary. Beyond that, well, we all have the desire and means to protect our city and it's inhabitants."

Eclipse, were you only selected as a team because of the VP meeting?

From what I understand, that is most definitely not the case.

Were the supers that attacked captured?

"No, our priority was the protection of the vice president and his guests, and the general public."

I'll pause here to let others have a chance to answer and fill in any blanks at the end

Dos Seso

Can each of you describe your super powers?

"Alas, I shall not. My powers are known to GOSH and my teammates and that is as far as I will let it go. Information like this could be used by those who wish to do harm to others in a way that would thwart my abilities to protect them."

Can you each of you answer why do you consider yourself qualified for this position?

"As Eclipse stated, GOSH has reviewed my abilities and has deemed that I was suitable for the position."

Did the team have any forewarning that this might happen?

"As I understand it, GOSH had credible intelligence that an attack was possible and asked us to be prepared for that possible attack."

Can each of you describe your super powers?

"As the others have said, I think it best I don't go into too much detail, but lets say I am the physical anchor of the Crusaders."

Can you each of you answer why do you consider yourself qualified for this position?

"GOSH believes I can handle it and I have some unique things I bring to the team."

Can each of you describe your super powers? - "I am a hand-to-hand specialist with Wind Powers"

Can you each of you answer why do you consider yourself qualified for this position? - "I think the rest of the team covered this one with the answer about GOSH."

Can you tell us what happened at the attack? - "Our priority was the protection of the vice president and his guests from an attack of an unknown source. When the attack happened we gave our best effort, working as a team and drove off the attackers. Since the identities of the attackers is not being reveled there is not much else we can say."

This leaves one hanging question - Do you think The Crusaders handled the situation well enough and why?

"Yes, we are new as a team and everything turned out well."

With all of the questions answered, Agent Peter McGinley says "Thank you members of the media. With that our Press Conference has come to an end." and he ushers the team off the stage. Jimmy Dugan tries to lob a few more follow-up questions in Agent McGinley stops it there. He urges the team upstairs to give the media time to leave. After a few minutes that media leaves the Federal building and the team is free to take any actions they desire.

Open question - please let me know what you plan to (from a high level) for the next week plus in your personal life (non-hero stuff, like your job or family life) and in your hero life?

For the next week:
For simplicity I see each day split into three 'slots': morning, afternoon and evening. During the week (i.e. not weekends) he would spend one of those 'slots' a day on his personal life and his job.

Hero wise: he'd have the remaining 'slots' to spend on hero stuff, patrolling and non-patrolling. He wants to set up a computer with his database, get a big map (or maps) of the city for the war room and mark on important places such as police stations, hospitals, prisons, places we've encountered villains, etc. He also would work with the others in setting up a rota for patrolling the city and help out anyone who needs a hand setting something up in the base.

Azir will focus on moving in and setting up her room as well as learning the immediate area so that she is very familiar with it. This will be done in non-hero mode but learning the area is really hero work.
