Garrett responds: "I do not have any experience with cargo buying and selling. But if the boarding team is with their salt, one will go to the bridge, one will go to the engineering spaces and I will take the third, I suspect license checks and checking the vessel specifics. I will take the third. Alright?".

You have not seen much of Garrett since the discovery on the asteroid.

"As long as they have IDs, I don't know what we could do to say no."
About 15 minutes from starport, a private call from Algos and associates comes in for Dev.
The current owner is a shell company owned by Octavia, "I know cause I did one for him 5 years ago, he makes a new one and transfers it around every few years. He has owned it for about three decades. There are no liens or problems with ownership besides Octavias obfuscation. Our company can act as as the purchase lawyer if you wish, that should be close to you pre-payment, A ships history will take quite some time as I have to send messages by scout, do you want to go thru with that?"

"Them acting as purchase lawyers, as well as requesting the ship's history, sounds acceptable to me. What do you think, Dev?"
Dev sends a text comm response (assuming others approve), saying that yes, they can act as our lawyers. We won't need the ship's history if he's had it for so long.
Does the crew want to act as brokers or hire the only broker on station, Haribro advertises as well experience Broker-2

"Can any of the crew act as broker? Do you have any such experience?"
"I'm not a broker, and I'd prefer to offload any of that to a distanced professional."

The Train lands and a small vehicle drives up with 3 people in it with clipboards.
"Permission to enter?"
As long as they have more than clipboards (IDs or papers associating them with the starport) then I presume this is all straighhtforward.

Dev is fine not being assigned a stooge to guard.

Once the inspection is done, she'll arrange for her possessions to be transferred to the ship.

While Dev checks IDs or papers, Hiro locks the exterior door of the airlock, having previously secured all other exterior hatches. His gunbelt is snug around his hips, as always, pistol & sword hanging from it as usual, the red magazine in the ammo pouch, the green magazine loaded into the pistol, all as usual.

Hiro takes a friendly demeanor, an easy smile on his face, but says as little as possible, letting Dev do any of the talking. He will follow the inspector not taken by Gunnar, and heading towards the Bridge or Engineering (that is, not taken by Garrett).

The three inspectors all have ID and as Garrett expected they split to the Bridge with Hiro, Eng with Gunnar and Garret with a license check.

Bridge
"Wow. spartan huh, is this one of the fancy holo touch systems? ♬ 'Don't you worry about spilling your caff, cause with this system, its not a gaff.' ♬ I think that was the somewhat silly tagline. Well can you bring up your chart so I can see if you caught up on your Notice to Mariners. "

He goes thru your systems and checking everything throughout and professionally.

Engineering

After a quiet walk-through
"Wow, how did you get authorized to have a military system, you get 4G out of this I bet. Well lets look at your maintenance records.
She deftly goes thru the records, which is a surprise, given the somewhat backward planet your on.

Garrett walks thru with the man with the most stripes.

Dev, what did you want to do with this time?

After a hour and a half, a meeting is called in the Captains cabin.

The man with the most stripes introduces himself. Inspector Breen, crewman Garrett was telling me your picking up the ship for transit for sale. I'm glad you did not come from the black. I'm issuing a ticket, update to the new charts,, your stuck to this planet till you update. Also you cant use the launch at all till its fixed by authorized personnel. Chuckles Now your meth lab and missiles. Given the situation Im going to ask you to get it professionally cleaned by the one cleaning company employed by our police force on your tab.. A officer will be here to access the work and be in touch. Your missiles are packed well and giving you a pass on interesting storage technique. I'l clear for you to conduct freight business and take on supplies.

They leave happily and you can contact the broker. I'll do the business monday.

Anything anyone want to do in supplying you or the ship?

Wordlessly, Hiro complies, with a smile.

After the inspectors have departed, if the rest of the crew has no objections, Hiro will call several starport companies, ordering a new chart pack, hiring a crime scene cleaning company to take care of the meth lab, a stevedore company to shift the missiles from the stateroom to the hold, and investigate whether a company will take the job of flipping the small craft from it's inverted position and repairing any damage. All these tasks Hiro will charge to the holding company set up by Octavia, that is currently listed as the current owner. When each group of tradesmen shows up, Hiro will monitor their actions and escort them around the ship, insuring they do their work properly. Before the charts are updated, Hiro makes a copy of the old charts, just in case there are clues to solve the mysteries of the ship in the notes or the dates of the old charts. When the work is finished, he reports the fact to the rest of the crew.

During the inspection, Dev leaves ship to ensure the transfer of her wardrobe to the ship. She also buys new sheets for the main cabin's bed. While shopping, she notices some grip shoes, really slippers with fancy lacings, and buys them as well.

When she returns to the ship, she listens to the report. She nods approvingly when Hiro arranges to charge the clean-up and repairs to Octavia. She had had the same thought, and hopes the paperwork can be delayed a few days.

Dev:
You are able to ask them to load it onto the ship for a modest 10Cr fee after you show your claim ticket.
There is not alot of choice on new sheets but you are able to order 3 in somewhat boring colors.
"Are you speaking for a ship, do you need life support service, we can audit your ship and fill it up in a day with you authorization, I assume your on the new ship that looks like a flattened disc? If you agree we can throw in your sheet for free.

You receive a message from the 2nd lawyer company with a seemingly more complete timeline of ownership and title search. they seem to have info that would take a trip to Narmast to confirm. "Here we provide a complete service for our client. You do notice the final owner as a holding company and Octavia is not noted by name, which is fully legal.

You see the blanket merchant you bought your mask from and she smiles at you, carrying her designed mask around.

Hiro:

A new chart pack and update will run 120cr, they sold you a brand new set instead of the 30 some years of updates. It takes about 15 more minutes to install but is better for the system.

The meth lab cleanout will be ordered and will cost 3250 cr and that includes replacement of destroyed starship equipment, though they cant replace the design exactly, Tomorrow at 4pm and they will be done for inspection. Just over 24 hours

The stevedore company gives you a price of 2k per missile moved and quote a week for the job to finish. Doing the math, it gets expensive fast!

You realize there is no real engineering service but a mechanic company looks at it and smiles, Someone got drunk, huh? I'd have to build a support system and get a team of oxen and even then I could not confirm damage. Sorry, I can't handle it.

Only charts and meth lob is required to clear the starport, not that they could stop you taking off, but....

Once the inspectors leave you get a bill for 100 credits, 60 for landing pad use and 4 days of pad rent. Also the broker makes a appt to receive your goods and excited you have some of the ore. "Sam will be pissed you undercut him, I need that, the company that buys it is almost out of business.
He's not that excited for the wood "A bit out of season. or the meat animals. "Hard to get rid of. But promises to do his best.

"if you tell me where your going asap, I can try to look at cargo for you to carry there, I know the needs of all planets within 2 parsecs.

You get almost double for the ore: 19550
a 25% jump on the wood: 15000 Surprising him
Just over 50% more for the meat: 2660

He says, All prices are after my cut, I owe you 37,210. Leaving you a profit of 13.410, which is nice, but you cant run a starship on it.

Speaking of which you should get the life support updated, that will give Gunnar new filters and change out the sheet and more than likely either dull vegetables grown in volcanic soil or canned food, they don't have the tech to refill the printer. But they might have booze.

Hiro looks at the bar and sees a green power light, the language wand that Dev found seems to have been fully charged for a few days.

He also notes the stevedores that picked up the cargo, left the animal waste and old food on you nice clean cargo deck, at least they did not drag a container across it. You see Garrett down there bringing out a scoop.

Having paid the landing fee a 4 cubic yard trash dump gets dropped off by your ship exit, but not to close.

Gunnar:

Following the invesitagotr around for the meth lab is a short experience. She puts on a breathing mask and gloves and walks in and looks around.

"Did you want any of the glassware? I can haul it for free, there about a 1/2 kilo of Cold Fuzion, that I have taken a picture of and a cop will come collect it before we start."

The Stevedore rep goes "Ugh" This should be done in zero G, but I will give you a land based price, doing it here on the starport involves regulations and such.

The cargo handlers are professional and quick handling the animals with a cowbows touch. Unfortunately the waste and old hay is left behind. So you start cleaning it.

Actions or thoughts?

Hiro sighs, but agres to make do with just updating the charts and having the meth lab removed.
He thinks to himself "Probably best that the locals aren't flipping the small craft; With how things have turned out so far with this ship, there is probably four dead bodies, an illegal nuke and 4 dT of Pickles on board." He audibly sighs.

>>Bills and Cargo sales<<

Hiro collects all bills and offers for payment, but makes no commitments or decisions, instead saying that he will pass them on for the "...ship's owner and broker...". He passes the documents on to Dev when she returns.

He adds "Oh, and your 'language wand' looks to be fully charged, Dev."

...left the animal waste and old food on you nice clean cargo deck...You see Garrett down there bringing out a scoop...

Hiro changes into his work jumpsuit and gloves, and goes to help clean the cargo deck, the first time the crew has seen him without his fancy clothes and gunbelt.

Dev happily accepts the offer to audit, and accepts the free sheets as well, smiling and winking as she also takes some nice low-g pillows.

When she hears about Narmast she acknowledges, and asks what the rumour is. whether she wants ity confirmed (or whether it is something she would do herself) can then be decided.

Dev waves as the merchant. "How's your boy today?" she asks.

Dev thanks Hiro for tending things at the ship, and when she returns she is delighted to learn that there has been a 13k profit. "It's a start," she says, and suggests beginning a ship-fund.

Cleaning up the ship and restocking the lounge will take some of that for sure. In her mind, though, Devereaux has already moved in. That's probably foolhardy, given they haven't really spoken with Octavia yet.

When Hiro appears in a jumpsuit, she asks if she wants him to order some for the crew. "You'd look good in a dark blue, maybe with some red piping," she suggests. Those are colours she knows she looks good in, but perhaps this is sincere.

In the meantime she takes the language wand and its charger out of the lounge. The charger goes with her other belongings, and the wand in a thigh pocket perhaps originally intended for a wrench.

Narmast: Perhaps a miscommunication. The info that was provided to you within 7 hours was very complete, like they took a 2 week trip to Narmast (the bureaucracy planet) to get some of this up to date info.

Language wand: This style has one language loaded onto it only, which you don't recognize and translates into "common".
Dev waves as the merchant. "How's your boy today?" she asks.
"Thank you, 2 weeks without a cough, a confirmed milestone, another couple weeks and he can apply for the local jobs.

The chandler makes an appointment for later in the afternoon.

The broker left a card for when you decide where you want to go.

Garrett notes "I have a unused first class chit for transport to Whaiaro, we have a small outreach college there where all the info and items have gone.
I should go there sometime. I think you can get 9500 for it.

Two policemen pick up the illicit drugs and ok the cleaning.

At about 5:30pm local, feels like 8:30pm local for the crew, everyone gets hungry, having had a ration bar several hours ago.

There is a company that delivers, they make a stew, and you leave a deposit for the pot and deliver to your ship.

As the meal finishes. the Chandlers show up, one heads with Dev for 'her' room and the bridge staterooms. One heads with Gunnar for the low berth and engineering. and Hiro can take the one to the main crew deck.

I'll clean up and collect the deposit. says Garrett.

They are efficient and fast, leaving a bill for 12,100, saying if you don't occupy the low berth you wont have to pay for that again, it needs a service after a few years alone.

So far there have been no complaints from the holding company paymaster.

The Chandlers will be done by early afternoon, the 'meth cleaners' by tomorrow late afternoon.

There is little excitement in the area, there are two bars, a local (Mudders Milk) and a starport (traditional).

After a possible early bed and sleepy morning there is a sound of a ship landing right next to you.

There is a immediate ping and its Sam yelling at you for undercutting his ore and demands a cut. "i have crew to feed and a license to be the only local distributor of the ore!" The small ship has a gatling laser on a protected dorsal turret which is manned and pointing at the bridge.

3 light to moderate armed people are heading towards the access door.

Dev looks to the others.

"Well then."

"Whether it's true or not, we've upset them. I can't believe they'd open fire on us while parked at a starport -- that wold end any contract they had for sure, if they're legit. They may just be trying to muscle us, in which case we can pay them, or we can drop Octavia's name and see what takes place. In any case, we have the option of charging up our own turrets, but since this isn't our ship yet, I am less concerned about keeping it pristine. What are your thoughts?"

Dev thanks Hiro for tending things at the ship,

Hiro smiles and winks, saying "No problem, partner."

Dev said:
When Hiro appears in a jumpsuit, she asks if she wants him to order some for the crew. "You'd look good in a dark blue, maybe with some red piping," she suggests. Those are colours she knows she looks good in, but perhaps this is sincere.

Hiro looks up from scooping up the animal waste and straw, and answers "Uniforms were not something I had given any thought, but they would lend a more professional appearance. Do you think matching hats would be too much?"

After cleaning up the manure, Hiro showers, carefully re-shaves & grooms, dresses in a clean outfit, cream colored tunic with trim on the collar and sleeves, dark brown pants, long burgundy scarf around his waist with his gunbelt belted on top.

Two policemen pick up the illicit drugs and ok the cleaning.

Hiro guides and chats with the policemen, making small talk in a friendly manner. "Has everything been quiet around here lately?"

they make a stew, and you leave a deposit for the pot and deliver to your ship.As the meal finishes. the Chandlers show up, one heads with Dev for 'her' room and the bridge staterooms. One heads with Gunnar for the low berth and engineering. and Hiro can take the one to the main crew deck

Hiro escorts the chandler to the main crew deck. While the chandler works, Hiro clears the dishes and then busies himself with any remaining cleaning in the galley, while keeping an eye on the chandler.

Gunnar said:

Hiro nods, asking "Do you think we need to depart the planet immediately?" Hiro listens carefully to his reply, taking what he says seriously. Hiro gives this discussion all the time it needs before continuing his duties.

>>>>time break<<<<

When the hazardous disposal team shows up to clean up the meth lab, Hiro will escort the team, wearing his vacc suit, for safety, since he does not have any lesser protection, like a filter mask. "Certainly overkill, but better to be prepared," he thinks to himself.

There is little excitement in the area, there are two bars, a local (Mudders Milk) and a starport (traditional).

Despite the days labors, Hiro is up for some entertainment. "Anyone up for some nightlife? How adventurous do you feel? Feel like trying the local bar?"

Whether anyone accompanies him or not, Hiro heads to the Mudder's Milk. At the bar he will look and listen to what is available and what others are ordering, and choose the least interesting option, perhaps a beer if available, He will then grab a seat or standing space to one side and people watch, while sipping his drink, examining the crowd, getting a feel for the place.

If Gunnar expressed the opinion that he thinks the ship should depart the planet immediately, there are some things Hiro takes care of in the wee hours of the night.

>>>>break in time<<<<

The next day...

There is a immediate ping and its Sam yelling at you for undercutting his ore and demands a cut. "i have crew to feed and a license to be the only local distributor of the ore!" The small ship has a gatling laser on a protected dorsal turret which is manned and pointing at the bridge.

Hiro swivels the ship's fusion gun turret to point at the bridge of the ship. Over the intercom he announces "A person named Sam seems to be disgruntled at us undercutting him. Garrett to the fusion turret. Dev and Gunnar to the airlock." Hiro heads to the airlock.

3 light to moderate armed people are heading towards the access door.

Standing at the outer door of the airlock, Hiro watches the three approaching figures, with his left hand at the top of his scabbard, standing loosely and relaxed. Without turning his head, Hiro scratches his right temple with right thumb, asking Dev "You got this negotiation?"

Dev said:

The locals bar just outside the starport is aptly called 'Tunnels' as the entrance is a hand dug tunnel into rock, it might have been a store house or something many years ago given the door and filter system, but now its owned by the locals.

It is a rowdy place where most conventions are not followed. There is a double door system and filtered air so masks are not needed in the bar, you note the bar provides a area to change into different clothing and a large bathing area including a spa, free of charge.

You of course know you stick out, but they are used to others looking around here , as long as you are respectful and dont start fights and spend money, there is no negative feelings at you.

You find a quiet wall chair and order a ginger beet beer and a bowl of dried meat nibblets and seeds and watch the preceding's.

There might be a drug dealer over to the left near the spa given the way he is sitting and how others deal with her. The talk of Octavia is his strict requirements for applying to work for him. He requires that you have never had the 'grip'. The way they are talking a lung disease. And not have any cough for 2 months including doing a timed run and showing arm and leg strength with coaching proctors. Pay is better in the starport, but those waiting for those are so stacked up, its never, and there is no technical college to prep for most of the jobs.

You ask for water for your second drink and pay your tab. It is exciting here with locals with instruments and hooting and hollering and life on this planet inspired comedic poems and stories. You pay your tab and leave a healthy tip (12 credits) and leave back to your ship.

I will post about Sam tomorrow morning as I don't have time now. Also Dev might have something to say.

Dev makes a mental note to order uniforms for the ship. form-fitting jumpsuits for all, plus a dress uniform for Hiro, with a really fancy hat.

Gunnar's information that Octavia might be trying to complete a quick deal makes sense, and perhaps explains some of the confusion he has been feeling. It's an opportunity, and might help with future negotiations. She is pleased that she's begun the legal work.

That evening, Dev is happy to accompany Hiro to the Tunnels. He's quiet, she thinks, but the thought quickly leaves her head when the dancing begins. Dev makes it back to the ship (whether Hiro had stayed the full evening or not isn't fully clear, but she has no headache this morning.

When asked, she nods -- "I can do the talking. No worries." She crushes the empty bulb in her small hand, perhaps intending it to be a symbol. "Taking their ship. On my to-do list", she says, as she winks and heads to the airlock, where she is somewhat releived to see GUnnar waiting. "Let's hope we don't need that," she says, nodding at his gun.
