Gurung

Gurung will target anyone who seems important, officer, radioman or heavy weapon. Shooting in the classic mad minute form.

Roger
The left flank is still 350 yds off. I'll try and work from one end and persuade that line to shuffle further left or go to ground and thus break up their impact.
Two rounds fire...one round to change mag and move slightly...two rounds fire.
Amended in the light of OOC thread comments

Tucker will use his Sgt as a spotter, he does not want to waste ammo, he will shot till he hits and moves on. Aiming lower than high.

Once he gets down to 1 shot, he will reload.

Dutch
Dutch will encourage his people to hold fire until the targets are closer, and identify prime targets (officers and radiomen) for snipers.

2nd LT Acme

Marvin watches as things go to plan, for now. "Nice work gentlemen! Keep it up! Spot targets and take them out. Hold off on the guns until they close, no use burning ammo."

He calls out to Roker "Nice call! Fire where you see fit, but maybe the closest group first?"

Wade keeps on the alert and continues to save his ammo until within range to use it wisely. Trying to keep his eyes peeled for any ambushes or unexpected events ahead while still following the unit.

"Aye aye, LT!" answers Roker with a grin that just might be showing longer canines than it used to. He calls in a strike to the left flank. After that, he tries to spread the love—if shells count as "love"—between Hill 80 and the two flanks in hopes of keeping all the attackers as off-guard and confused as possible.

Targeting order for the next five rounds (including the one posted above): Left, Right, Center, Center (just in case they think there's a pattern), then whatever has the most targets without a risk of hitting our own troops.

'The Ridge', island of Guadalcanal, Night of 13 September, 1942

Tracers tore through the hot, humid night....artillery shells screamed and BOOMED as they hit the earth in bright explosions, flares dropped from droning floatplanes lit the dark night like a weak lightbulb hanging from a chain in a big, empty basement with no windows and over it all, the screams of rage, pain and fright assaulted the ear drums of the thousands of U.S. and Japanese troops engaging in battle in a remote, small island in the Solomons chain.....

Roker and his spotter CPL Hodges expertly used the TBY radio and map grids to call in a series of Artillery Strikes from the battery of 105s near Henderson and the shells hit the Left wave of onrushing Japanese soldiers with devastating effect, though not enough to stop the several Company strong attack. He then switched to the Right wave of attacking IJA troops and this time the shells flew a little too far, only dropping a few of the enemy towards the back of the mass of personnel. Roker then switched again to hit the massive concentration of the enemy in the center with a pair of barrages from the battery and these landed to great effect in the center of the Battalion of Imperial Japanese soldiers, sending men flying every which way in pieces....

The fifth and possibly last wave of shells were sent at the Right Flank again, and this time, they hit well in the center of mass of troops, doing the most damage they could. However, Roker and his spotter, CPL Hodges could tell that the two waves on the flanks were about to make close, personal contact with the Raiders and Parachute Marines and they were still in relatively large numbers....especially those on the Marine Left Flank. The largest wave in the Center however, was now at just about 50 years and Roker could feel the sweat starting to pour down his face as Hodges was screaming for "ONE MORE BARRAGE! I know it's DANGER CLOSE, but we can drop a LOT of the bastards!"*......

Marvin Acme had been doing what good leader do and that was steady his men and call out encouragement; keeping them focused on their tasks and NOT on the fact that in just a minute or so, they were going to have hundreds if not over a thousand Japanese troops all around them. To that end, he saw the massive group of IJA troops in the center, crossing the open ridge, running uphill and he KNEW he couldn't waste the opportunity that was presenting itself. Snatching up his heavy BAR, he took aim and fired a burst....then a second....then a third....then a fourth and emptied the clip. He KNEW he had dropped at least two or three troops and badly wounded another. He ducked down and swapped out the empty clip for fresh one, then glanced up over the lip of his foxhole and he could see a full Platoon of 30 IJA troops rushing towards them from about 50 yards out**....

Next to Acme, staying down in the foxhole and keeping his eyes closed while he quietly repeated a simple prayer over and over again was Corpsman Franklin. When he noticed Acme drop down next to him to reload and cautiously rise up again, he did the same thing....and sighted down his Carbine to take a few shots with his weapon....

On the other side of 'El Tee', Gurung ignored the occasionally tracer that zipped near him and he quickly and efficiently emptied the clip of his SMLE while smoothly working the bolt in the 'mad minute' drill.....quietly proud of the fact that he KNEW he had hit at least 4 of the enemy including an Officer or NCO and a Nambu LMG wielder. When the last round was ejected, he dropped down and quickly reloaded with a pair of Charger Clips....noting with a bit of dismay that after THIS magazine, he only had 5 rounds left (15 total). He saw about 30 soldiers charging towards SST 4's position from a distance of about 50 yards***.....

Dutch used his EAGLE EYE power to call out targets to Elias Tucker who was firing a Scoped Springfield Rifle and who was crouching right next to him. The 'Coastie' followed his advice and fired 5 times, hitting 3 of his targets. He dropped down and reloaded as Van Horn realize the enemy was still in such numbers and now at a range for him to get more actively involved. The Pennsylvania Dutch NCO snatched up his Garand and quickly squeezed off 8 rounds from the semi-automatic weapon, happens to see that he dropped at least 3 or 4 of the enemy before the loud 'ping' from the ejecting 'en bloc' clip let him know that his weapon had run dry. He quickly dropped down and reloaded and came up about the same instant Elias did. They could both see that they had about a platoon of Japanese troops rushing them from a distance of about 50 yards.....that wasn't going to leave much time before things were up close and personal.....****

Wade kept a tight grip on his Trenchgun, waiting for events to reach a point where he could more readily contribute.....and now it looked like there was about 30 or so Nips fifty yards out.....not ideal range for his buckshot shells, but that would change quickly as they continued to race forward****....

Next to Wade, Roger Myers took a deep breath, tucked his Johnson LMG's butt into his shoulder, made sure the weapon's bipod was in a good spot on the ground, let the breath go and squeezed the trigger....angling his automatic weapon's fire to scythe across the onrushing wave. He moved the fire to the left, then back to the right and then back again and the clip ran dry. He reloaded his weapon and repeated the process, happy to know that he had dropped at least half-a-dozen or more of the enemy with the spray of thirty-aught-six shells. He reloaded his weapon with the last clip and then took the last 'alligator' 5 round clip and slipped it into the action to give a full 25 rounds and looked up to see that about 30 of the enemy were about 50 yards away and rushing in quick....*****

OOC: Okay, so the current situation is that about 30 Enemy Troops are rushing the foxholes of SST 4. To your left and right the enemy waves are crashing into the Marine positions....but still at least 25-30 yards from any of you (i.e. nothing the PCs have to worry about at the moment as they concentrate on the other NPCs all around you). The platoon facing you is in a full charge towards you.....they will be at 'in close' range in 2 rounds. In close means you can engage in Melee attacks or hand to hand or use weapons...but some weapons, namely the Springfield Rifle, SMLE, Johnson and BAR will all have a penalty due to the tight quarters. The Trenchgun, Thompson and any sidearms do NOT have this penalty....nor does 'Doc' Franklin's Carbine. PLEASE see the Arsenal Thread for any questions on what the range of weapons are....i.e the Trenchgun will be at Long then Medium range....throwing range is generally 30 yards....etc.

*Roker can call in one more Arty strike...but if it's off target, there's a chance it can hurt you guys or your fellow Marines if it falls short. (It can also fall long and hit the enemy).....he can also just use weapons or something else.

** thru *****: I took actions mentioned in the threads, plus what seemed "logical".....please take a look at your character sheets if you have any questions about remaining ammo, weapons, grenades, etc.

For Gurung's Armor and Dutch's Eagle Eye powers.....you have these next 2 rounds before you have to worry about possibly making rolls to keep them active if you like.

FOR ALL: Anyone wanting to Activate a Power, please remember to let me know if you want to use any Will Power points for the attempt. Thanks!

Best pictures I could find for this battle.....

Gurung

Gurung will continue to fire until they are at melee range then he drops the Enfield and activates his energy Kukhuri.

He will expend 5 Willpower (or less if that guarantees it activates).

He will also attempt to re-activate Armor when needed.

Dutch
Dutch aims and fires 2 rounds at the nearest enemy troop.
Next round, he'll change to his sidearm, squeezing off 1 round.

I asked for this?" he thinks to himself but says aloud.

Since they were so close he opened both eyes looking for a target since the sergeant was busy with his own weapon.
Looking for a flag carrier or katana wielding officer or maybe the biggest one charging his area.

The second round he will say "I'm with you sarge. Shave and a haircut."

Controls himself and turns invisible Using will

Stands a bit, steps back and pulls out his frag grenade (checking) and tosses it like SSG Kilgore instructed, aiming just ahead of the front attacker so it blows behind them 'Givvn' max'imum E-Finch-E-C you puddle pirate", Releasing the handle, "FRAG" he yells so his Sarge can hear and throws.

After it blows he will stand a bit higher then will take out his pistol and adopt the two handed target range stance and will fire just above Sarges head, shooting those that are closest to him, giving him some air, allowing him to use his rifle longer. Just before the Japanese are about to engage in hand to hand. He will whistle Shave and a haircut and use pistol or his knife, depending on the situation.

2nd LT Acme

Marvin pats Franklin on the shoulder and smiles. "Give 'em hell, boys!" He calls over the din.

Acme energizes a bomb, then pops up and hurls it at the oncoming horde.

Wade grabs his frag grenade and tries to lob it at the larger group of enemies approaching yet far enough away from any friendlies that is shouldn't create any friendly fire.

Roger looks around, and selecting a group that are ahead of the rest and about to get into the trench line, will concentrate fire on them - hoping the riot gun will do the job of keeping the Enenra* out of the trench.

"Mediocre" Fred Roker isn't sure the corporal isn't a little off his gourd calling for artillery strikes so close to his own men. But the chance to thin the ranks of the enemies rushing at him is too tempting. Roker calls in one last strike on the middle.

Using a luck point.

'The Ridge', island of Guadalcanal, Night of 13-14 September, 1942

The human tidal wave of Japanese troops crashed into the prepared Marine positions all along Hill 120 on 'The Ridge' and a cacophony of violent sounds assaulted the eardrums of all involved in the battle as screams, gun fire, explosions and the sounds of weapons striking flesh all combined in the melody of war.....

Radioman Roker and his Spotter CPL Hodges called in one last 'Danger Close' Artillery Strike, which arrived with enough force to shake the ground the Marines were standing on, though not close enough to hurt them. It impacted largely in the back ranks of the Japanese troops assaulting the Raider positions immediately to the Right of SST 4's foxholes and then the platoon of Japanese troops were literally ON the members of the Talent Team and no more time or thought could be given to the 'bigger picture' of the battle....

'Mediocre' Fred dropped the radio-phone and snatched up his Thompson as a trio of Japanese soldiers rushed him and CPL Hodges; the latter of which just BARELY got his Springfield rifle up in time to block a bayonet thrust from an angry IJA trooper. The other two lowered their long Arisaka Rifles with the gleaming bayonets and rushed towards the American sailor*....

2nd LT Marvin Acme pulled one of the five rocks he had stashed in an ammo pouch and reached within himself to tap into his Talent Power and a moment later, the rock was glowing with a reddish-orange light. He hurled it at the mass of rushing troops and a savage smile split his leathery face as he watched it skip once and then explode right in the midst of the IJA troops, sending three of them to the ground in bloody pieces, never to rise again. He then noticed that a quartet of troops were rushing into the foxhole he shared with 'Doc' Franklin and he had to admire the Corpsman's aim as he dropped one with a couple of rounds from his Carbine, but then the remaining three were jumping down at them. 'Doc' was facing off against one, while two more were coming right at the veteran Marine leader....who had his big BAR, which would be tough to use in these close quarters in his off hand, or his .45 pistol in its holster on his hip**....

Rifleman Gurung took careful aim and worked the bolt action of his SMLE rifle once, then again; pleased to see his shots find and eliminate a Japanese Machinegunner from the fight. Then he could tell the enemy was going to overrun his position, so he dropped his rifle, activated his energy blade power and a moment later, a gleaming purple blade of light was in his strong right hand. Two of the enemy dropped down facing him, one with a bayonet equipped Arisaka Rifle, the other with a Sword of his own***....

'Dutch' Van Horn fired off two more rounds from his M1 Rifle, cursing that his first shot missed, but happy his second hit and dropped his target. Next to him, Tucker fired his Springfield and then vanished as he used his Invisibility Talent. The disembodied voice of Elias called out to Van Horn, telling him he was using a grenade and the big Marine ducked down as the weapon went off. When he looked up, he could see the reduced horde of troops got in real close, he dropped the M1, drew his 1911 pistol in one smooth motion and put a round right into the face of an IJA troops about to drop down into his foxhole with him Three more IJA troops DID however manage to drop down next to him, leaving the big, strapping Marine NCO and his invisible team-mate facing off against a trio of enemy soldiers****.....

CPL Wade MacGyver drew his Frag Grenade, squeezed the lever, pulled the pin, let the lever fly and hurled it at the onrushing enemy and he immediately had a flash back to a high school baseball game where he was in the Outfield and he had a chance to throw out the Runner from Right Field and as soon as he threw the ball, he just KNEW it was a bad throw and off-line......the same thing happened here. The 'name took a ugly couple of bounces AWAY from the rushing enemy and then exploded, luckily with enough force to still drop one of his opponents from the shrapnel. Wade then snatched up his Shotgun just a pair of enemy troops dropped down next to him; one with an Arisaka with a bayonet and the other with a sword****....

Roger Myers ignored his shoulder that was starting to ache from the recoil from his Johnson Rifle being fired and sending the force straight back into it and the Marine maneuvered the weapon on its bipod, sending one burst, then a second into the rushing wave of the enemy, snatching a pair of IJA troops off their feet, never to rise again. Then two of the enemy were right up close next to him, leaving him wondering if he should attempt to awkwardly pick up the Johnson and fire it from the hip in-close or leave it and pull his sidearm******.....

Elias Tucker took careful aim at an IJA leader who had a Nambu pistol in one hand and a long, slightly curved sword in the other and he fired his Springfield, hitting his target high in the left, upper part of his chest, causing him to spin, drop to the ground....start to get up and then slump motionless. The Coast Guardsman then dropped the Springfield, reached into himself and Vanished from sight as he used his Talent Power to Turn Invisible. Pulling his grenade out, he armed it, let his fellow SST 4 members know what he was doing and he hurled it at the onrushing enemy, watching it bounce once, twice and then explode with enough force to definitely take out a pair of troopers and badly wound a third. A moment later, three troops were dropping down into the Foxhole and facing off against SGT Van Horn who was fighting them with his .45 pistol in hand....

OOC: Okay, hopefully everyone can figure out the situation, but to spell out a few things....basically, everyone is in 'IN CLOSE' combat...i.e. melee/brawling range.....with either 2 or 3 foes each. (3 for Van Horn....but Tucker is there as well, the 3 enemy troops though don't know he's there) As I mentioned before; some weapons have a penalty if you want to use them in this situation (the Johnson LMG, any M1 or Springfield Rifle or the BAR)...some do NOT (the Trenchgun, the Thompson; pistols)........for those of you who activated Powers, I used the WP mentioned (5 for Gurung) or enough to ensure the power worked (4 for Tucker).....Acme didn't mention using any, so I made his roll without spending any and he passed it. Note, Gurung's Armor and Van Horn's active powers from previous rounds (i.e. 'Eagle Eyes' and "Armor'...will required rolls to keep up starting this round if you wish to keep them up; Eagle Eyes PROBABLY won't be of much use in the current situation, but hey....maybe there's something I'm not SEEING here...yuck, yuck, yuck)

Let me know what people want to do and if you have any questions....

Gurung

Gurung will step into the closets foe and attack with his Energy Kukhuri, striking 3 times. If his foe drops at any point he moves to the next.

If he can spend will to help keep his Armor going he will.

Wade his immediate reaction almost like a reflex is to use his gravity manipulation to hurl his foes upwards and away. His second gut reaction is to put of a wall of force around him and his friends. But this will take a bit more concentration. if so needed will use luck point for these action(s)

Roger

Well, now is that moment where I see who gets to die for their country...Hopefully not me!

Spade seems to be the answer - and that electric shock effect that I've noticed would be really good about now! (Luck also seems useful - point expended)

Now, what did the Sergeant say about Melee? "Don't let them get close".
Hey ho - Bayonet Vs Pike: Parry, close and stab. 3 Vs 1: Keep them separated. Now - Just pretend that it's Saturday night on the dockside.
