X'ral Present gave up on struggling and fixed his gaze on the human, willing the root, essence, and power of his body's mutantness onto the human.

X'ral Past guess that if he didn't stop the human before he could use the ancient tech device, he'd be dead. Both of him, in all places on the time continuum. He drew the whip's tip back overhead and again lashed at the human.

The Human Altercation, Round Three

X'ral Present focused his ocular radiation beams on the human but the energy net shifted and spoiled his eye aim.

The human fired his contraption and an energy net flared out, expanding, but at the last moment X'ral Past dived out of the way.

From a kneeling position X'ral Past lashed out with the energy whip, but in his rush the whip missed.

The human dropped the energy net weapon and drew a pistol.

X'ral Past flips the length of the whip back and with one motion whips it forward again. X'ral present again concentrates a focused gaze on the human.

The Human Altercation - Round 4

The human fired his pistol at X’ral Past, but the young mutant shaman dodged the laser beam and it scorched rock.

X’ral Past snapped the whip and the lash wrapped around the human’s neck, just as X’ral Present focused his radiation eyes and fired twin ocular energy beams into the human’s chest.

“Aarrgghhh!” the human’s voice cried out in pain before being choked off by the whip. He collapsed to the ground unmoving.

X’ral Past rushed over to help his Present self out of the energy net. It was tough going as the buzzing, sparking net clung to X’ral, but after several minutes they got it off.

“Are more comimg?” asked X’ral Past.

Your luck indeed turned!

X'ral Present stands and looks at the downed human and the very dead one. I only saw these two. And an ancient tech vehicle that disappeared into where they came from. I suspect that there are more. Speaking to himself from a minute, a day, a week or a year ago was a strange experience. But it was himself, so he knew exactly how to explain something-- to himself. He wondered what smoking his pipe with his past self would be like. How would it affect his past self, as in moved into the future? Would he remember it? And at that moment he had a strong deja vu sensation. As if he'd been here before, and he was the X'ral Past, interacting with an X'ral Present.

He pointed to the dead human, knowing what his past self would do. X'ral Past went to the body and removed the ensnaring device and any other technology devices on it. When the stunned human revived, it wouldn't be able to use them. X'ral Present did the same with the stunned human. He stowed the gear in his pack, except for the entangling device. He would try to figure out how to use it, so he could perhaps subdue humans, rather than having to end their lives.

X'ral Past looked him in the eyes and slightly inclined his head toward the side. The two swiftly moved to the rear to a place of concealment. X'ral Past briefly examined the pistol. A weapon powered by a power box, like many other ancient tech ones. He had seen how the human activated it. He held it and observed the portal area. X'ral Present took the opportunity to examine the ensnaring device and try to understand how to reset it and shoot it.
Intelligence 14 [1d20]=3 Sorry, I may have mixed up which human had which device. I haven't had much free time the past couple of evenings and need to catch up on some posting. But in the end, X'ral Past ends up with the pistol and X'ral Present ends up with the entangler.

The two X’rals took the humans’ weapons. The energy net contraption gun reminded X’ral Present of a very large rifle, but with a flared end to the barrel which was two hand-widths wide in diameter. There were additional circular switches marked with numbers, and also a lever that X’ral had seen the man turn round and round in between shots. The contraption had a red glowing indicator showing a “3/10” number sequence.

The humans both wore the elaborate helmets and suits. These did not seem like armor though, being a only a type of unknown fabric and the helmets glass (which if broken could harm the wearer.) X’ral didn’t know why they wore these suits. Perhaps ceremonial, or the dress of a warrior?

They also each carried small square cards bearing writing and a picture of each man’s face. And more interestingly, a rectangular device one hand-length long, with buttons on the upper end, ridges in the lower end, and a rigid thin wire that rose from the upper right corner.

Image

Suddenly the device emitted a fuzzy noise, followed by speech: “How does it look up there Kron? Bringing them in?”

Having seen the energy net gun in action, X’ral will understand how to fire it by succeeding in a 3d6 Int. check.

The X'rals looked at the devices, then at each other. The wordlessly started moving away from the portal, toward a concealed place. They lay down on the ground and readied their weapons for an ambush.

The X’rals took cover behind rocks 40’ downhill from the concealed door.

“If we only had more of us,” said X’ral Past as he looked more closely at the human pistol.

The talking boxes left behind occasionally spoke. They somehow harnessed the power of echoes. X’ral remembered exploring caverns as a youth, where whispers made at one end were carried across a great distance to be heard at the other end.

X’rals knew more humans were on their way, rising up from under the ground like agitated zants.

Five minutes later, the door slid open and out stepped two humans dressed in the suits and helmets like the others. They were armed with hand guns.
You have the surprise should combat be an action.

X'ral Present glanced at X'ral Past, and his past self understood. "No need to kill people more who may not be our enemies. We're in their land, they're not in ours." X'ral Present glanced at the energy web weapon. X'ral Past picked the human on the left, aimed, and activated it.

X'ral Present fired the energy net gun. He was not use to the strange contraption and his aim was off as the energy net arced over the heads of the two men and hit the rock face above.

"There!" yelled one, pointing in the X'rals directions.
X'ral Present had the energy net gun, and Past the pistol.

X'ral fumble [1d100]=95 On a 1-50, something unfortunate happens, so this is just a normal miss.

That was surprise round, so now it's initiative and actions. Rnd 1 - X'ral vs humans [1d6]=1 vs [1d6]=3

Please make a 3d6 Int. check.

“If we only had more of us,” said X’ral Past as he looked more closely at the human pistol.
In the back of X’ral’s mind, he heard his past self’s words. There was something about them.

The humans were aiming there guns at the Xrals, who had cover of rock boulders.
It’s the next round, so take action and rolls.

X'ral Present yells to the humans, We come in peace! There is no need to shoot! We're sorry about what happened to the others, it was a misunderstanding.
We've come from far away, looking for our brother. A big man named Lars. He wore armor and carried a bow.

Lars Past unfocused his eyes and called in selves from his past and future.

Charisma 17 [1d20]=1 Oh boy again.

... Their duration is 1d4 hours. The power can be used once a week.

Close but not exactly what I was hinting. You’ve used the power for the week.

On attribute checks, lower is better under the stat, so a 1 for Charisma is best.

X’ral Present appealed to the humans with words. They lowered their weapons.

“You wear no suits! You are mutants. How did you find this place? If you speak true, throw down your weapons and come with us!”

As the humans spoke, X’ral Past underwent the Temporal Fugue. Materializing nearby, still out of sight of the humans, was an older X’ral. He had white hair and many lines in his face. While his body was not as taut and bulky as X’ral Present, his eyes held wisdom.

He looked to X’ral Past expectantly, and X’ral Past looked to his Present self.

Yes, we are mutants,, X-ral present said. What we say is true, I am looking for my brother. But we cannot drop our weapons and come with you. We all know that nowhere in this world is safe. All we are looking for is information. I will now give you information in exchange. We found this portal by following a vehicle to it. It was easy. Anyone who wished you harm could do it, if they were reasonably smart about it. And now, will you tell if you have seen my brother?

He lies the ancient tech rifle on the ground, and old X-ral Future comes, lies beside it, and takes it. It was a long time in the past when he first used it. But they needs more of himself for this situation.
