Setting yourselves to the task, each goblin is slain while it sleeps. Rummaging through the corpses, you come up with a total of 71 copper pieces. There is little else of value within the group. They were obviously a wandering patrol from a larger group located somewhere else in the sprawling dungeon.
You still have the door before you know that the threat has been eliminated.

Zamboni has already checked the door:

You look it over but are not able to find anything. While everyone was quiet allowing you to investigate the door, you all here movement and hushed voices coming from down the hall, most likely in the main hallway you exited off of to come here.

In this alcove lies a human skeleton, huddled under a riven brass shield. It is clad in the crumbling remnants of leather armor. A metal, visored helm sits upright on the flagstone floor nearby.

The skeleton is human, and although it is intact, even to joint-sinews, it is not undead. The shield, split in two and pitted here and there with weak, crumbling areas, is effectively worthless. The word "Nimraith" is etched across it, in Thorass. The leather armor has also perished; it will crumble away into dust and mere shavings when touched, yielding only rusty buckles to scavengers. Amid its folds, entirely under the body, are the rotting remains of a knapsack, of the same material.

This knapsack contains a smooth, polished ivory tube (worth 2 sp) and a moldering mass of cloth scraps (once a piece of cheese, wrapped in cloth). The tube is capped on both ends.

"Sure I'll give it a look." If he is given the tube he'll give it the once over then try to open it.

There is nothing special in appearance about the tube on the outside, it seems quite normal. Opening it up and removing the contents, there are two sheets of parchment. The first is a map, comparing it to yours, it seems to be very similar to this area. The second contains writing but you are unable to quite read them. You realize the words are of a divine nature.

Jardin recognizes the writing as a Cure Light Wounds spell. It is written twice.

Treat as a Scroll of Cure Light Wounds with 2 usages.

The helm is intact, but eaten from within by rust; a being of average strength can drive his fingers through it while handling it. The helm contains nothing of value, though it contains something. Thir is startled by the buzzing wings of a thirsty stirge which appears to have been sleeping under the helm. Surprised by the creature, it buzzes around Thir's head, looking for a place to thrust it's proboscis. It flies close to Thir's head but he is able to dodge out of it's way.

Stirge: Attack; THAC0: 17 [1d20] = 9 Damage: [1d3] = 2

Stirge Initiative: [1d10] = 7

Bingo

Bingo attacks the strige with his sword.

Initiative [1d10] = 8
He gets a +1 reaction adjustment but I can't remember if its a plus or minus in 2E.

Short Sword +1 [1d20+2] = 16+2 = 18 to hit [1d6+4] = 1+4 = 5 damage

It's a plus. Your initiative is now 9; which is better than the 7 the stirge has.
