FarPort A commercial star port significantly away from any other planetary bodies. Often used by the largest commercial ships for cargo transfer.

HighPort A commercial star port at least 100 diameters distant from the body it is associated with.

Sangrean Symbol Five equilateral triangles spaced in a circle. The three sides represent body, mind, and spirit.

Sangrean Victory Diamond A four point shape with equidistant, concave, sides. It represents the Sangrean triangle with the added element of success.

Wheeler A vehicle that contacts the surface with rotating circular wheels. Supplanted by gravity reduced vehicles, wheelers are useful in lower technology environments where portable energy production is limited.

Weapons

Carrington and Fischer A business producing hand held military weapons. Their R9 battle rifle is the current standard for Saorsan militia units that have not transitioned to laser weapons. For many years the commercial CF-2315 has held distance and accuracy records. Base models are single shot bolt actions. Hunting and Target versions are available.

Chemically Propelled Rounds (“CPR”) While there are hundreds of cartridges for CPR firearms, ranging from the 1mm Needler to the 1M Howitzer used for trigonometry practice, the standard rounds are the 2mm and 7mm rounds. The 2mm is referred to as a “Short Fire” and used for target practice, training new shooters, and very small game hunting. The 7mm, or “7”, is a much heavier round. The 7 has been historically used by various military forces working to standardize between mixed organizations. There are quite a few sporting target groups as well as an avid hunting culture.

Fabrique Grandee Another business that caters to the target sport shooter. The newest model, the FG-23D, is expected to challenge the best CF-2315 in performance.

PPM-12 A semi-automatic CPR carbine firing a necked down 7mm bullet out of a 27mm long case. Often portrayed in video entertainment as a tool of criminal elements.

The central star of the system is an unusual one in that it is affected by G-Wave perturbations that disturb its surface in an irregular pattern of waves. This has the effect that the star looks striped and that it’s effective surface diameter alters. Since diameter is related to jump-shadow, and Birach is situated at the limit of the star’s jump shadow, this has direct and profound effects on the shipping approaches to that planet. This, in turn, has major implications for Fleet Tactics and for establishing/evading a blockade.

Residents of, and Visitors to this system should take care when directly exposed to light from this star. This is because although the energy received may be within acceptable parameters, the wavelengths of that energy are skewed towards Ultra-Violet when compared to the home stars under which many races evolved. Sunburn can be severe.

Politics in the Atrean Court

Life in the Atrean court is interesting. Due to extreme over-population in the system, most Atrean citizens never make it to the home planet. Costs are high and life-spans can be short. Atreans have so many people that they value life little.

Nowhere is this more on display than in the Atrean court. Debate rages, alongside trumped up duels, vials of poison, and shady deals for one's soul. The court is highly factionalized, however, the three main powers consist of the military, the business interests, and the Emperor's family itself.

Whatever political gains one seeks must come from some existing faction. The deals and arrangements required depend on many things, and often one is left guessing about what the deal actually was. Figuring out what a faction wants is an art form of its own.

SRA-22 A heavily modified missile shell used to move individuals at very high speeds. The original concept was pioneered by the well-known magnate Ben Webb. From his initial stripped down design, WM Research and Design prototyped several models. The most memorable success was the SRA-20, used to such good effect in 1432.
