If Dorni is moving forward to attack, then he easily kills two. However, he will be hit for 6 (plus s.t.) unless he kills his attacker first.
Did Dorni kill his attacker first?
No. Dorni moved in and killed two kobolds in the surprise round. He was engaged by another kobold in the round described in Post #10.
Marullus wrote: Thu Dec 17, 2020 11:43 pm
The post doesn't describe how they're hit. Does this mean the description from the previous post (#10?)

Total from post #10, I see:
-3 Kurzuk
-1 Parnell
-6 Parnell
-6 Dorni
Close. Kurzuk passed his ST but took one more from the poison. Parnell passed one ST and failed the other, but still only took 1 point of damage from each. Remember that even a successful save vs poison does 1 point of damage.

Kurzuk is down 4.
Parnell is down 9.
Dorni is down 7.
Marullus wrote: Thu Dec 17, 2020 11:43 pm If the statement above is about Kurzuk and Parnell applies to that, it implies they took -3 and -7 and that Dorni killed his foe pre-emptively?
Not quite. Dorni killed two in the surprise attack, but was attacked in the next round, described in Post #10. Instead of combat, Dorni cast the spell, initiative roll of 1 (From the bottom of post #14, Initiative. There are no dex mods for Initiative, so Dorni took the attack in Post 10, and then cast the spell against the snake.
Marullus wrote: Thu Dec 17, 2020 11:43 pm There's no damage posted from the snake thrashing, right?
Correct, only three PCs were at risk, and they all made their saves. Had they failed, the players would have rolled damage. Dorni was close to the snake, but it moved away from him.
Marullus wrote: Thu Dec 17, 2020 11:43 pm If Stephanos is offering 4d8 in healing against that 10 points of collective damage, we can assume an average roll and let both be fully healed?
Where's the fun, and random chance, in that?

Don't forget to post the rolls at the bottom of each post. You all could have probably kill the orcs by now. :)

As is, roll two rounds of surprise combat. If the orcs are still alive, they will raise the alarm.

Well with multiple replies I didn't think you needed rolls with every single one of them. But what are you looking for, in rolls normal weapon attack rolls or the "suggested" rolls? Two d20 [1d20] [1d20] Two d6 [1d6] [1d6] One percentile [1d100] < Those?

If combat is in the offing, I'll usually take the rolls and work them into the first events. That keeps the game moving forward a little faster, and the players are free to alter things as they see fit. It also means saving throws are already done, as well.

While I don't mind rolling for the players, I enjoy giving you agency. I want to keep my promise of making this a short term game, and as stress free as possible.

Alright. I just didn't think you wanted me to post rolls in every single post when all I was doing for actions was talking back and forth with another PC and now an NPC/Foe.

Well, if we're choosing then the Humanoids version of the Control potion is the obvious choice:
Human Control: A potion of human control allows the imbiber to control
up to 32 levels/hit dice of humans/humanoids/demi-humans as if a charm
person spell had been cast, and the human types to be controlled are entitled
to saving throws versus magic. Any pluses on hit dice are rounded
down to the lowest whole die, i.e. 1 + 2 = 1, 2 + 6 = 2. The type of
human(s) which can be controlled is randomly determined on the table
below:
1-2 Dwarves
3-4 Elves/Half-Elves
5-6 Gnomes
7-8 Halflings
9-10 HaIf-Orcs
11-16 Humans
17-19 Humanoids (gnolls, orcs, goblins, etc.)
20 Elves, Half-Elves, and Humans
But that is clearly OP, so probably the good old Invisibility potion with its 8 doses.

Nice!

As for Dorni, I just can't justify him taking something as eminently practical as a healing potion, given the opportunity for favor of the court potioner. He will take a potion of evil dragon control.

i rolled the dice and got this, how fitting :

Invulnerability: This potion confers immunity to non-magical weapons and attacks from creatures with no magical properties (see CREATURES STRUCK ONLY BY MAGICAL WEAPONS) or with fewer than 4 hit dice. Thus, an 8th level character without a magical weapon could not harm the imbiber of an invulnerability potion. It further improves armor class rating by 2 classes and gives o bonus of +2 to the individual on his or her saving throws versus all forms of attack. Its effects are realized only when the entire potion is consumed, and they last for 5-20 rounds. Only fighters can use this potion.

If we're rolling I get [1d100] = 1
Animal Control: This potion enables the imbiber to empathize with and
control the emotions of animals of 1 type, i.e. cats, dogs, horses, etc. The
number of animals so controlled depends upon size: 5-20 animals of the
size of giant rats, 3-12 animals of about man-size, or 1-4 animals of about
% ton or more in weight. The sort of animal which can be controlled
depends upon the particular potion as indicated by die roll (d20):

1-4 mammal/marsupial
5-8 avian
9-12 reptile/amphibian
13-1 5 fish
16-17 mammal/marsupial/avian
18-19 reptile/amphibian/fish
20 all of the above
Animals with intelligence of 5 (low intelligence) or better are entitled to a
saving throw versus magic. Control is limited to emotions or drives unless
some form of communication is possible. Note that many monsters cannot
be controlled by the use of this potion, nor can humans, demi-humans, or
humanoids. (Cf. Ring of Mammal Control.)
[1d20] = 2: Mammal

The regular schedule for DM Action Posts means something happens Monday, 28 Dec, and Thursday, 31 Dec. I'm happy with that, but am not sure how it works for everyone else.

If you're good with it, post actions in IC before 0800 (GMT -5) Monday. If not, say so here. We can adjust for the holiday schedule if you like.

Absent plan or posts from several players, I assume folks are enjoying the holidays.

Next DM Action Post Thursday, 31 Dec 20, assuming folks get back into the groove. Happy New Year All!

Sorry Leitz...busy holiday with the family. I tried jumping on several times, but never got more than 5 mins at any one time...

I decided to roll for the potion:

[1d100] = 16

Diminution: When this potion is quaffed, the individual, and all he or she
carries and wears, will diminish in size to as small as 5% of normal size. If half
of the contents are swallowed, the person shrinks to 50% of normal size. The
effects of this potion last for 6 turns plus 2-5 turns (d4 + 1).

Hope everyone had a decent holiday.
