Another Murder on Sparks
Retired merchant, Ludmilla Parkinson, and her husband Hiro, who were found dead at their home earlier today have been ruled suspicious deaths.

What was thought to have been a result of bad maintenance has now been confirmed to have been a deliberate sabotage of the seals on the airlock of the residence at Yellow Rock.

The seals were attacked by strong chemical solvents and gave way when these broke down their structure.

A spokesman for the manufacturer of the seals is quoted as saying While we are relieved that this is not caused by our company's product we can only decry the deliberate and reckless endangering of the community and the apparent murder of two, unsuspecting individuals.

Why these two people were killed can only be speculated upon. Police have taken the couple's two children in for questioning about the deaths and they are now helping with their enquiries.

Breaking News: Mass shooting at Yaoley Crater
A video posted today appears to show a major shooting incident at Yaoley Crater. Communications with the town are currently difficult, and we have been unable to gain contact with the local police and security contractor for an update.

Coming on top of the power outage, initial speculation is suggesting that this may be another terrorist related incident, similar to that at the Spaceport last week.

More, when information becomes available.

Yaoley Crater Shooting Update
The reported mass shooting at Yaoley Crater appears to have been entirely non-fatal. While there was a gunfight, it was a disastrous miss-understanding with the engagement having been between local police and an on-site contract security company. The blackout, and associated communications breakdown, seems to have caused the two groups to lose track of each other's locations and resulted in a blue-on-blue engagement. Regrettably, several innocent passers-by were hit by riot-suppression rounds during the ensuing firefight; but the majority of persons in hospital seem to be Police or Security officers.

The Chief Constable of Sparks has issued a statement
The regrettable incident at Yaoley Crater has highlighted the problem of lack of training amongst the security companies that have been raised to help deal with the recent emergencies. It is my resolve to establish a review of the quality and training of such companies as have gained public contracts.
The reduction in incidents should allow some of the current provision to be wound-down - although the recent starport incident shows exactly why the security provided by these companies is still needed.
Judge Keith Hanna-Adok has been appointed to independently chair this review.

Inquiry in to Spaceport Attack
The Belt Government has indicated that it is to set up a wide-ranging enquiry into the recent attack on the spaceport on Sparks.
This enquiry will review the causes of this attack, why the attack was so successful and whether the current administration is the right one for running such key infrastructure.

There have already been hostile reactions to the terms announced and there is expected to be a great deal of political debate over the review's scope, objectives and powers.

North Pole Spaceport
The major berths at the North Pole Starport have been re-opened. While other traffic has been significantly diverted, the port is now able to handle over 400 movements per day.

It is with thanks to the Navy and other Defence Forces that this rapid recovery has been possible. It may take a few months to get all our facilities fully operational, but in the mean time, the bottleneck in our food and water supplies has been removed.

Noor en-Sabah Runs as Councillor for West Sapphire
by Anne Kroker
In an unexpected move, Noor en-Sabah - recently chased by Gunmen on New Earth and then Sparks in the Belt - has announced that she is to run for the role of Councillor for West Sapphire. The West Sapphire Ambassador to the Belt has agreed to supply additional protection and Noor will be returning to West Sapphire this week to garner support for her candidature from within the government.

These recent events started because the campaigns of my predecessor were close to uncovering the corruption of certain individuals. I am committed to continuing that campaign for Honesty and Decency. she said in a short statement.

Starflight Breakthrough
Sparks Police, accompanied by observers from multiple other nations, visited a property in the belt discovered to have been owned by the deceased Starflight Executive Jusu Saffa.
The property has been identified as the residence from which Jusu Saffa departed before his untimely death aboard the Queen of the Belt. The property is being analysed for any details that might yield further insight into the last days of this wanted fugitive, and will then be auctioned as part of the Criminal Asset Recovery Programme.

Politicians are talking Rubbish
The backlogged waste collections have become such a concern that the Government of Sparks has intervened in the dispute between Green & Clean and its workforce.

The company is clearly failing to discharge its contract and appears to be declining to even talk about resolution of its pay dispute. As a result, Clause 29 is being invoked and external mediators are stepping in. If no resolution is found in 14 days, the contract will be terminated.
