Shylock Cravat

Not sure if those black clad saracens are here to assasinate us or secretly aid us? He can't think of a reason folk would hunt him specifically. The barbarian maybe after his market melee.

His mind made up by the nearer shuffling of undead feet edging towards him. He unleashes two arrows in quick succession before he gets any close quarter melee himself.

Shylock shortbow at short range: [1d20+4] = 13+4 = 17 damage [1d6] = 6 [1d20+4] = 10+4 = 14 damage [1d6] = 1

Both arrows on one zombie.

Alec

Draws bow and takes aim at the Undead climbing the walls trying to get to his companions and let's loose..

[1d20+3] = 18+3 = 21 Long bow

[1d6] = 6 Arrow damage

[1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6 Long bow Miss.

Well the first one was a good hit. Keep your eyes open for any coming up our walls.

Gil, barbarian skald

Having jumped the roof to join Corthalis and elude the zombies, Gil draws his bow. He is torn between attacking what could be new enemies or the zombies behind.

“Friend or foe!
Speak or I fire bow!”

If the black-clad men do not answer by the time they leap onto Gil’s roof, he’ll fire at the biggest man. If they remain silent and rush toward him or Corthalis with weapons, he’ll fire. If Gill engages, he’ll issue the attack whistle for Claw to strike opponent at end of round.

Shylock and Alec, between them, manage to pincushion one zombie and send it hurtling to the ground where it lands with a satisfying crunch. Alec's second arrow whizzes within a foot of Gil and hums like a wasp as it passes. The perils of firing into darkness near your companions.

Corthalis draws a bead on the leading black figure loping furtively toward you and fires an arrow dead into its chest. Rather than thudding into flesh, it passes harmlessly through the figure and clatters into the wall behind it.

Gil's arrow has a similar problem finding purchase, as does the warhawk. It claws and scratches at empty air before flapping away in obvious confusion.

Jasmine soars from the rooftop in a mighty barbarian leap, but lands far short of her intended goal, instead landing within a few feet of the undead milling in the street and swinging wide of the mark.
Her mighty warcry, coupled with the bellow from Kazak, has likely attracted every undead within earshot. You imagine time is of the essence now, if you're ever to have a chance of escaping this quandry.

Two of them make a clumsy lunge for her with teeth barred and already-rotten flesh hanging from porous bones, but aren't able to connect. She stands in the middle of the street now. A good dash and climb will take her to either rooftop. Undead await whichever path she chooses.

The onrushing spectres seem oblivious to your presence. They pass directly through you and leap like avenging angels upon the undead on the rooftop and in the street. Apparently, their weapons are of more substance than their wavering, shadowed bodies. The ones nearest Jasmine fall in a torrent of blood, none of which seems to stick to their attackers. The shadows work in utter silence. It's still hard to get a good idea of their total number. They're like a swarm of insects, ever-moving and wavering in and out of sight.

But as the battle wears on, they grow a little more solid.

The guards upon the rooftop opposite you loose a volley into the street and rain down a second death upon still more of the plague-walkers. And suddenly, just like that...the way is clear. For now.

The sound of shuffling feet issues from all directions. Another wave will be upon you soon.
Kazak roars with defiant laughter. "Ha! Come on! Piss on the dead bastards and get over here. You look like shit." He laughs again and slaps Alec on the back, then waves you over.

Shylock Cravat

Nocking another couple of arrows, the halfling continues to clear a path to the tavern door.

Shylock shortbow at short range: [1d20+4] = 15+4 = 19 damage [1d6] = 4 [1d20+4] = 11+4 = 15 damage [1d6] = 5

Taking another zombie down he leaps from the roof and legs it.

Gil, barbarian skald

Shivering at the sight of sorcerous specters battling zombies, Gil mumbles something about too much magic. He clambers down to the avenue and makes to the safety of the Vulgar Unicorn while the street is safe.

The party downs several undead and, with the aid of their mysterious benefactors, reach the opposite side of the street unmolested. Groans issue from an alley down the street as a fresh wave of zombies approaches, but before anyone can react, the shrouded figures vanish into the alley and all is silence once more. They don't emerge.

Kazak and his men beckon at you and lean down to offer a helping hand, swinging those who require assistance the last few feet up to the roof. They back away from you quickly once the bloodstains on your gear become apparent, and the big man cocks his head. "Wounded?" He asks. "Slaughtering pigs? Why you look like this?" He gestures vaguely at your bedraggled forms. "And why are you still on the street after dark? You will catch plague."

He is suddenly wary and backs slowly away. "Or maybe you have already, tangling with these monsters."

Shylock Cravat

"Oh I'm clean." he says opening his jerkin to show no crimson stains. "And thirsty too. Rescuing damsels in distress parches the throat that only wine and wenches can succour."

He hands the bow back to Jasmine.

"What were those shadow assasins? Need a few more helpful wraiths to cleanse the plague."

Gil, barbarian skald

Gil smiles at Kazak. The barbarian's grimy leathers are blood splattered and his shoulder gashed. He lowers his bulging backpack and takes a swig from his wineskin. His rough visage clashes with his sing-song voice:

"A day provisioning and misadventures indeed!
With Darius and thugs, a thief and city guards
And shambling undead that poison bleed!
Clashes and chases worthy of a song of bards.

"No zombie blood has stained my skin
Only mine own and that of human kin.

Now lead the way to bar bench
and on my knee a saucy wench!"

"Time for question and answer inside," Kazak rumbles. He sends a dubious glance toward the alley where the black-clad figures vanished. "I hear of these shadows, but never see them until now. Didn't know if they real or just story." Apparently satisfied that you aren't plague-ridden or walking dead, he ushers you inside and escorts you to a pair of rooms, one of which Alec was using.

"Here. Clean up and take rest. Or clean up and come down. Suit yourselves. Either way, I see you soon and we talk." He claps Gil and Jasmine on their meaty shoulders, sends Shylock and Corthalis a doubtful glance, and lumbers back downstairs to rejoin the festivities.

You are left to your own devices. Each room is richly-appointed and complete with a bath and spare clothing of various sizes. Obviously, you're getting special treatment after Jasmine's display in the arena. Food is also brought, trays of meat and vegetables, fruits and nuts. Smiling young ladies bearing buckets of hot water enter each room and fill the baths before scuttling quickly away to other duties.

The night is yours, my friends. You survived your first day in the Golden City!

Morning, Outside the Vulgar Unicorn

The streets are once again flooded with humanity. Nothing remains of the previous night's carnage. All has been swept clean by morning's golden light and the necessity of life moving on.

Your wagon creaks out of the stable and into the road, blending with the endless stream of natives and outlanders milling back and forth.

There is a heavy guard presence. You can still see the backs of a unit which recently passed, and they inspect closely every face in the packed crowd. It's going to be difficult to move freely.

If you want to visit a leathercrafter, select an option from the previous post where I detailed the three available and set out. I'll adjudicate from there.

Gil - 36/39
Jasmine - 51/55
Corthalis - 10/10
Alec - 22/22
Shylock 23/23

Alec

Alec will drive his horses and wagon to the closest leatherworker. Making sure to stop and avoid any guards when possible keeping a distance from them when we can with out whipping a U-turn and being obvious. He keeps it slow and had his Shotgun Guard keep eyes out for the leather worker.

Keep your eyes peeled for the leatherworker shop. I am thinking this is a bad idea but necessary. Cort when we get there I think you need to go in we don't need to have everyone that is wanted out getting into more trouble. Find some head covers and I would like a leather full face helmet. Go ahead and climb in the back and see what everyone else wants and collect some money for it. Here is 2 gold, that should cover the helmet. I spent what I had on this wagon and horses.

Corthalis Aelvynwyyne merely smirks and hops down off the wagon. He rounds the back of it and climbs in. After hushed whispers and collecting coin, he leaves the wagon and enters the premises. "Good day." He observes those inside as he browses the wares on display.

Gil the barbarian skald waits patiently in the back of the wagon while Cort goes shopping. He hums a barely audible tune before asking Jasmine if she’d like to roll the dice for some coppers.
