Chapter 8: Alien Invasion

While the two warriors continue their "discussion," Maskelyn finds a clean, dry spot to sit and begins studying his spells.

Ko-Nan assesses the newcomer once again. Cold hard eyes piercing out and meeting the same. He also thrusts forward his wicked axe knowing that the newcomer can only be impressed. "This has slain the entire Clan of Umblek. They fought. They died..." He peers over his axe at the long steel of the sword of the newcomer. "Such weapons were not allowed in the Mines. Only what we could make with our might." He stares at his axe then back at the sword.... thoughts of learning such a weapon brings a smile to the chiseled face of Ko-Nan.

Malga

The big Mok eyes Ko-Nan and the axe, returning the same intensity he is showing her.

"Nice axe. I not here to impress anyone. Looking to keep alive and experience what wastelands has to offer after

what happened to my tribe. Been alone long time, nice to meet fellow travelers."

The immense newcomer is welcomed to join the questers of The Kirk. Malga crosses the barricade and enters the strange chamber that holds the smoking, disintegrated remains of questers gone by.

Adrock says a prayer for friends departed.

Malga swaps tales of the Wasteland with those of the mysterious Engine Earring from Fiefo the rat-man and Ko-Nan the barbarian. Maskelyn and Adrock study and pray so that their wondrous magicks are replenished. (please choose new spells)

Adrock and Maskelyn have restored their magical power. Fiefo, Ko-Nan and Malga have regained their strength. Adrock miraculously heals the wounded, singing ancient hymns to all-knowing TeeEmZee. (+7hp and +5hp to Ko-Nan and Maskleyn)

Thus fortified and prepared, the surviving questers of The Kirk are ready to resume their sacred crusade for the mysterious artifact of the gods, the Engine Earring.

Malga the Mok peers outside. All is quiet in the curving corridor beyond the magic door.

Recalling the map he saw on the gods eye he directs the group towards the engine earring.

Maskelyn steps up, just in front of LL.

The big Mok remembers going on hunts with her tribe. Obviously not the stealthiest in this band, she almost goes last,

but follows Ko-Nan's lead instead and against her better judgement walks up front with him.

Her senses are on alert for signs of trouble.

Ko-Nan, with a white-knuckle grip on his axe, inches forward into the darkness to continue the search. He looks up and around to watch for more attackers.

The questers of the Kirk resume their sacred mission, cautiously creeping deeper into the vast castle of curving corridors.

Beneath the flickering witch-lights, they anticipate an ambush of black eyeless horrors that does not yet come.

Adrock has committed to memory the complex, convoluted map of the magic mirror.



The scholar-priest of antiquity directs the pilgrims toward the enigmatic Engine Earring.

Carefully passing countless enchanted doors so as not to accidentally open them, they discover more broken barricades and evidence of ferocious battle. Heavy objects are shattered and strewn about, but there remains no sign of the dead.

The holy expedition quietly continues on, reaching a spur that branches from the circling hall. At its end stands a shut door.




According to Adrock's memory of the map in the God's Eye, beyond the door plummets a nigh-bottomless shaft that descends deep into the bowels of the castle's dungeons, where lies their sacred goal.




Warily, the explorers approach. Their presence does not magically open this portal and, upon closer inspection, they see its surface is dented from the other side.

Maskelyn runs his hand over the bulge in the door. Took a mighty hand to dent this.
Do you think we can pry it open?
As he says "we," he looks at Ko Nan and the Mok.

The Big Mok looks to Ko-Nan, nodding. Approaching the door, she inspects it,trying to imagine what might have done this dent.

She does attempt to listen through the door before making place for Ko-Nan to assist her in opening the door.

Deep within the strange castle-ship of the gods, Malga the Mok presses a pointed ear against an iron door that is dented from the inside.

Silence.

She steps back that she and Ko-Nan the barbarian might force it asunder with their unequalled might.

Ko-Nan looks back at the group and grunts a, "Be ready". He wedges his axe in the door and pries - muscles flexing against the weapon, metal creaking as he pulls!
