OOC: Camp Troll

#1 Post by Valdus »

Inspired by the amazing series of novels, "The Black Company", I decided to call our troupe after those fantasy companions. Feel free to plug into the fiction if you wish.

We have a few used book stores in the area, I'll see if I can find some.

Should we assume that low stats have negative mods, even if they aren't the usual combat stats? So, Arlen would have a -1 on Int and Cha rolls?

I'll wait on the setting before buying gear; it shouldn't be too difficult. How much should we "set aside" for travel? Is it a LoTR-ish setting, or sea front, or exotic east, or....

Yes, negative modifications on attributes are possible. It might be fun to play a low charisma. The reason, the why etc.

As far as the setting, I am planning on a good ol dungeon crawl to start. No doubt the world will expand as we explore it. So prepare your pc for a descent. Something into the under-realms, dungeons, tombs.

Lastly, wow great round character sheet in a square template! I love what you did with a D&D sheet. Hell yeah make it work!

Negative mods don't come into T&T except for calculating combat adds - it doesn't work like D&D. You use your whole attribute. To make a L1 SR requires you getting to 20 by adding 2d6 DARO to your attribute. EG With CHR 6 you need 14 on the dice - the only way you can get that is by rolling doubles (because you add and roll again every time you get doubles).

I'm looking forward to trying out the mechanics. I've never actually played T&T.

As am I! I plan on having a nice mass simultaneous combat. I will try to not have individual enemies but just treat them as one collective. Much like Risus uses cliches for groups of goons or even locations. I think it will be an improvement on playing by post.

Unless people already do it that way.

Until I get handle on permissions, do try to not start new topics. You can simply put it all in this section.

On the company roster there are quite a bit of names, but alas in this scroll there be only two fully fleshed characters.

I know some people rolled on the previous thread and we had two new members. Come roll the bones and join the Company!

Good old Black Company!

The nice thing about T&T is how mutable the whole combat system is. Experimenting with different ways to handle the enemies is half the fun of it.

Here's an interesting take on the default setting:

Neil Gaiman: "I started imagining a world in which we replaced the phrase 'politically correct' wherever we could with 'treating other people with respect', and it made me smile."..."I know what you’re thinking now. You’re thinking 'Oh my god, that’s treating other people with respect gone mad!'"

A very curious read. For some odd reason I never did like trollworld, perhaps because of the name? As I have said before, in my hey day of rpg's I took myself and gaming way way too seriously.

In any case, we have not heard from two players (and Khaboom I am very surprised about) so I am opening the Troll Company to new members. I read somewhere that it is best to have more people in pbp than you want or need. I never believed it, until now.

No LOL, its two different games. You have kicked but troll at the other one, if you want in on this one too with another character. Cool, if not, see you at the bridge.

I thought it odd you had the same character in both places!
