Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
The underground tunnels: Downtown.
August 26, 2018, 9 am.
Dark, wet, and echoy.
Coming from here:
https://www.unseenservant.us/forum/view ... 14#p497214
Sam manages to get to the other side and quickly finds himself at a rough cut entrance into a new set of tunnels. This is much larger than the drain he was just in, and there is no man made waterways leading into it, so though it is wet and there is a sound of dripping water, your feet are no longer in water when you hop down 3 more feet.
There is plenty of room to stand up and the space is much wider, enough for two maybe three people to stand abreast. The bottom is gravel and a further investigation reveals more markings at this intersection. The Arrow East has a trio of crosses, the arrows North say hotel in faded letters but is scratched out, also that way is brick and mortored up. West is a picture of $, food, & river.
It is now pitch black other than your phone. You hear fading steps but the echo is so bad you.cannot tell where they are or what direct they went.
Westward there is a gentle slop down, and eastward seems more level.
Actions?

Sam -8 to rolls.

OOC: questions
The crosses are religious crosses?
The hotel bricked in wall looks solid and well constructed?
The markings are official markings or carved in by others?

Yes to Religious crosses.
The bricks seem old but not real old, and definitely a professional job if not particularly neatly done.
The markings are scratched on with chalk or grease marker.

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Sam is going to head eastward in the direction marked by the three crosses. Proceeding carefully since it is much darker but also continuing to look around the tunnel walls for any evidence of alcoves or things that may be out of place.
Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
As he heads east he has a hard time seeing. There are no alcoves until you have traveled for a bit and you see one to your left. It is only about four feet from the edge of the tunnel wall and about 4 feet wide as well. There are three stairs cut into the stone leading up to a large door. It reads: Immaculate Conception.

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Sam is going to place some more trash to mark the location at the center of the tunnel, look carefully at the door to see if it appears recently or regularly used, and then proceed a little further down the tunnel.

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
The door seems to have been shut and locked from the inside for quite some time. However, not so long that it has not been maintained.

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Sam is going to proceed further in the same direction looking for other similar entrances suspecting there might be more and that the person he was following might have left some tracks going into a doorway out of the muck of the sewer.
Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Funny you say that. It is becoming more and more obvious that this is not part of the sewer system or drainage.
The slope turns slightly downward and there is a junction shooting off to the south and the main path you are on now continues east.

OOC: I picked up on that but got a little lazy with the words. Is it still wet in this area or just gravelly?
Would we be leaving footprints if we go up the stairs?

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
no worries
You can see that it has gotten much dryer and though you could reasonably look for places where the gravel had been disturbed, you doubt you would really be hard pressed as it all seems very well packed.
The stairs look moderately well kept and you can spot nothing like foot prints or other indications of passage.

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Sam, not seeing any telltale signs of the person he was in pursuit of and noting this door looks secure is going to continue further into the tunnels and look for the next similar entrance.
Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Sam hears his phone begin to pick up something as it alerts him to a PKE reading. It is worth knowing that he begins getting that spider up your spine feeling as he passes by the tunnel to the south.

OOC:Is this an intersection? Can Sam check the walls for any grease marked signs?
Sam is going to check the screen of his phone. He is developing a little more ability to navigate the applications. He then is going to shine his light into the darkness. “Hello... anybody down there?”

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
yes to intersection
Looking to the intersection, north arrow reads St.S. the South arrow reads H. Both of these appear official and are painted on, and very faded.

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Sam is going to head into the tunnel to the South that gave him shivers - keeping one eye on the PKE meter and one eye down the tunnel where the light is shining.
Sam is looking for anything unusual but would also like to find a ladder up to the street to send a message to the team.

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Sam begins walking south again down the "H" tunnel. You are pretty sure that you occasionally hear a car pass overhead with a deep rumble. Soon, you do see a ladder leading up! There is a chalk mark with an arrow up. A drawing of a cross and a bell. Under it there is an arrow North with three crosses again, and an arrow south with an H with an X over it.

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
Sam is going to type a message to the team, nearby and under the immaculate conception church - lost the trail - PKE meter going off. He is going to climb the ladder, try to pop the lid with a hand so it is above pavement, and hit send with his thumb.
Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
You are able to get out a text as you are rinsed by the pitter patter of rain. You also poke your head out and realize you are on a corner. A quick Ninja Turtle look around and you can see you are now just south of the big church at the top of the hill, downtown, and are beside the private school.

Re: Spelunking with Sam... Wise?
“Hrmm...seems like a nice part of town”, Sam mumbles as he climbs back down the ladder. Sam is going to interpret the PKE reading on his phone and see if he can make sense of the app.
