Year 1153, Day 107: 12:15 PM [Courtyard/Drawbridge]
[Round 6]
The group heard the fading screams and watched the departing form of the Morningstar Trollkin as it moved ever further from the ruins and towards the forest with no sign of slowing or stopping.

**********

Grakluse ran after the wounded Morningstar Trollkin and struck a surprise blow from behind. The Staff contacted with the armor, but only glanced off with no effect except to cause the Trollkin to redouble his efforts to flee.

The Clan followed Phaeus’ suggestion and began throwing stones at the sleeping Frogs. Aari threw a rock, stuck and woke one of the Giant Frogs. Father Hadrian threw a rock and struck the armor of one of the sleeping Trollkin, which remained asleep. Ronnie Milne fired a stone from his sling, striking and waking a second Frog as Cleo Milne threw a rock that landed in the grass short of its target.

Aari

Does Aari see the fight going on between Grakluse and the Trollkin?

For that matter, does Father Hadrian see any of this at this point?

[Round 7]
The two Giant Frogs, now fully awake, hungrily ate the two sleeping Trollkin … dragging their armor and corpses back to the pond. One Giant Frog remained asleep with Two Battle Axes and Three Light Crossbows scattered about on the ground.

The group in the ruins … Phaeus, Aari and Father Hadrian … all saw the Morningstar Trollkin about 70 yards away and fleeing at 30 yards per minute (round). He was running, screaming and being chased by an Elf wearing a cloak and striking him on the back with a staff.

The edge of the woods to which the Trollkin was fleeing were approximately 900 yards from the ruins and nearly half an hour away at his present rate of travel.
  • A Character with a Movement Rate of 12” can reach the Trollkin in one round and attack (melee) in Round 8.
  • A Character with a Movement Rate of 9” can reach the Trollkin in two rounds and attack (melee) at the end of Round 9.
  • A Character with a Movement Rate of 6” can reach the Trollkin in two rounds and attack (melee) in Round 10.
  • Ranged attacks have 50/50 chance of hitting either the Elf or the Trollkin.

Phaeus

Watches the unknown elf put the trollkin to flight. He decides to chance the sleeping toad and hopes the feasting ones have a belly full already, he goes across the drawbridge to collect the weapons.

"Come let's collect the spoils. We could shoot the sleeping toad and welcome this stranger."

Just to be clear, before Father Hadrian bolts with Phaeus for the weapons, are the two waking toads actually in the water, some distance away?

I'd rather not kill the third toad, by the way; we've just seen what useful guards these things make. We can always bring the Elf in through our private doorway.

Aari

Aari will run after the Trollkin and elf.

Movement 9", attack with battles axe used 2 handed when he gets there.
Battle Axe, 2 handed [1d20] = 11 to hit [1d8+1] = 1+1 = 2 damage

Year 1153, Day 107: 12:17 PM [Courtyard/Drawbridge]
[Round 8]
Aari sprinted across the drawbridge, past the sleeping Frog and into the grass after the Elf and Trollkin with a Battle Axe in his hands and determination on his face.

Phaeus advanced carefully on the sleeping Giant Frog and collected two valuable Battle Axes from the path just beyond the drawbridge. Father Hadrian was far more cautious and stopped at the end of the drawbridge until he was certain that the Giant Frogs had returned to their pond. There was one sleeping frog in the road where Phaeus was gathering Battle Axes. There was the corpse of a dead frog between the intersection of the two paths and the isolated pond located SE of the drawbridge. There were four Giant Frogs lounging in the pond. Since they made no move to attack Phaeus, Father Hadrian ventured to the intersection and collected two Light Crossbows from the road. There was a third Light Crossbow in the grass between the intersection ang the Frog corpse, but that was closer to the Frogs than the Father was comfortable going.

The Elf swung at the Trollkin again [Grakluse rolls Hit and Damage]
need 10+ to strike armor (no damage) and 14+ to hit (roll damage)

Year 1153, Day 107: 12:18 PM [Courtyard/Drawbridge]
[Round 9]
Phaeus and Father Hadrian dropped the 2 Battle Axes and 2 Light Crossbows back at the gate. Phaeus headed back across the drawbridge and started into the grass to recover the remaining Light Crossbow. As he approached, the ” Be careful” whispered by Father Hadrian, the nearness to that Giant Frog corpse and getting closer to the pond, caused Phaeus to have some second thoughts. Ultimately, he decided to …

The Elf swung at the Trollkin again [Grakluse rolls Hit and Damage]
need 10+ to strike armor (no damage) and 15+ to hit (roll damage)
Then Aari reached the Trollkin and landed a blow with his Battle Axe that glanced off its armor without biting deep.

Year 1153, Day 107: 12:18 PM [Courtyard/Drawbridge]
[Round 9]
Grakluse landed a blow to the fleeing Trollkin that knocked the helmet off his head.

Year 1153, Day 107: 12:19 PM [Courtyard/Drawbridge]
[Round 10]
The Trollkin trying to crawl away on its hands and knees, blood trickling from an ear. Aari arrived and both Grakluse and Aari delivered simultaneous blows to the creature. The Trollkin lay motionless as its life soaked into the ground. “Thank you for the aid.” said the Elf to the Human.

A Morningstar lay on the ground a short distance away, where it had dropped it, and the Leather Armor, while too large for a human, could be reworked by a leatherworker … softened by heating and wetting, then recut, molded and allowed to reharden … to fashion a suit of Leather armor for a man or elf (or two suits for a Halfling or Dwarf).

Year 1153, Day 107: 12:25 PM [Courtyard/Drawbridge]
The group was reassembled in the courtyard with their loot. The sleeping Frog woke and returned to its companions in the pond.

1. Did Aari and Grakluse collect the Morningstar and Leather Armor?
2. Did Phaeus decide to go after the third Light Crossbow or leave it?

The Ranger, Aari, was introducing Grakluse, an Elven spellcaster to “The Clan”.

Aari

Aari would take everything and dump the naked body in with the alligator. "Best to leave no evidence if possible."

"I am Aari, come back with me and I will introduce you to the clan."

"This is Grakluse."

Father Hadrian greets the new guest.

"We of the clan are pleased to house you, Grakluse. Your eldritch skills will likely prove to be very useful."

He introduces himself, waits for the rest to do the same, and then returns to business.

"The corpse sits in the courtyard. We had better meet the wolves before some of Mielikki's children seize it for themselves."

Phaeus

I won't return to close too the toad as it has been pelted with stones but will point out to the elves the location as they pass by so they can retrieve the crossbow once the toad hops back to the pool.

Having the 'all clear' signal, he will greet the newcomer. "Dangerous to travel alone in these woods. You were lucky to stumble across the ruin."

He goes to check on the families sheltering and sees the gnome, wondering if he chatted with the squires yet.

Year 1153, Day 107: 12:35 PM [Courtyard]

I think I know the plan with the Wolves, but just correct me on any details of the setup that I get wrong and then state the location and action of anyone involved. Anyone who states no location is assumed to be locked in the Chamber (#7 on the map).

Preparations for the Wolf encounter had been completed. Most of the Clan was safe in the Chamber behind a locked door. The Giant Raccoon carcass had been placed in the bottom of the tower with the door securely braced in place with timbers from the ruins of the second floor. The wolves could enter and leave the tower through the breach near the drawbridge and across the moat.

Father Hadrian slowly led the way from the Great Hall, down the south corridor and to the Wolf Lair (#12 on the map). As the Father reached the entrance to the chamber: Sixteen ears perked up. Eight heads snapped in his direction. Eight pairs of blue eyes focused on him. Eight sets of fangs came out. Eight throats softly growled a warning.

I will go out on a limb here and guess that you had a spell in mind to cast before actually entering the room … so I will pause here for your action.

Aari

Aari will be right behind Father Hadrian in case something goes wrong and he needs to defend him. He will try and be as non-threatening as possible.
