Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
Re: Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
I'm guessing ken-do-nim didn't notice the +3 on the damage roll.
And in retrospect, Arthfael would have been better off charming the Cimmerian barbarian. The sorcerer probably won't stay charmed for more than a few days and he wasn't that terribly dangerous in combat (assuming he's out of spells). The Cimmerian barbarian, on the other hand, would have stayed charmed for a month or more. The sorcerer seemed like he might have been the party leader, so charming him might have brought the combat to an end. That obviously didn't work out. I was also worried that the sorcerer might have had a sleep spell up his sleeve, which might have meant a TPK if he could have gotten it off.
So. That's why we don't have a pet barbarian.

Oh I see, I misinterpreted the 4+3 as the two d4 results, but I guess the 4 is the 2D4 by itself.Zhym wrote:I'm guessing ken-do-nim didn't notice the +3 on the damage roll.

Hi,
I'm going away for summer vacation. I don't expect to be online. I'll be back in two weeks.
If I can get online, it'll be on the weekend. So please reply to today's DM post by Thursday night, just in case.
Thanks, everyone!

Hey gang,
New DM post is up. Fyi, I'm still away on vacation for another week.
Even though Easterners have the same game bonuses as Southmen, I thought it might make sense to break them out, now that we have an easterner PC.
Please join me in welcoming DadsAngry to the game!
Dads, please go ahead and post your sheet to the character sheet thread. Thanks.

For this game, please:
- -Use blue words for dialogue.
-Use red words for OOC talk in an IC thread, and wrap them in a spoiler.
-Put the characters name at the top until all the PCs are familiar with each other.
-Link all die rolls to a post. (and please roll for the CLW you just cast.)
- -Use blue words for dialogue.
For example, the above post would be formatted like this:
If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.Goniza, sorcerer-priest:
Goniza prays and surveys the battlefield, "I guess you all won. Phew!"

Re: Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
Is the Stygian's whole book in magic writing, or portions? Biblo does know Stygian.
Re: Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
Do we see any structures nearby other than the pyramid? How far of a walk does the pyramid seem to be?
Re: Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
Grog: The whole book is written in the arcane language of wizards.
Zhym: Yes, more cracked broken ruins, like the black shapes from the battle map. Walls around you are 13 feet tall, and still casting shadows. None of them have roofs.
The Great Pyramid is 500 feet away. (The Area Map's scale is at its bottom right hand corner. ) Due to its size, the pyramid appears closer.
Everyone: It's just after dawn. The heat of the day will fall between mid morning and late afternoon.
Resting soon means another 8-12 hours without food. That said, you are getting tired. Your sleep cycle the past few days has been to sleep during the day to avoid its heat.

Ken-do hasn't replied yet but I'm moving things along because I'm leaving for the weekend.
Should be back by Tuesday. Have a great 4th everyone.

You too!
Quick question: there seems to be some kind of structure or other just to our southwest. Is that still standing, at least to the point of putting walls on more than one side of us? Maybe we could string some cover between the walls before midday hits.

Re: Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
Yes. Those crumbling walls still stand. If the PCs approach them, I'll detail them in my next DM update. Thanks.

Re: Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
How long has it been since we've eaten? And are there any consequences in terms of game mechanics from starvation?
Re: Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
Happy 4th! I'll be on vacation be back next Monday. Npc as needed.
Re: Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
Thanks for the heads up, Dads. Have fun.
It's been 6 days since the sandstorm. It's been 2.5 days since any of you had food, and 1 day since any of you had water (including Mako who I'll rule found a dead camel from the caravan days ago, carrying water. Arthfael memorized his current spell array 24 hours ago, at dawn yesterday).
I'll start to post this info in the DM Adventure Log.
None of you have seen birds or game.
The outdoorsmen in the group (Barbarians, Druids, and Rangers) know that people will die in 2-3 days without water, and in 2-3 weeks without food. It will be a terrible, agonizing death.
In 12 hours, at sundown tonight, everyone will need to roll two Saves, one for Starvation and one for Thirst, unless you locate a pound of food and/or 2-3 gallons of water per person. (3 gallons for those active during daylight. 2 gallons for those resting in daylight.)
Arthfael the Druid can create 8 gallons of water per casting of Create Water, of which he currently has one memorized. You need 16-24 gallons for all of you to avoid a saving throw against thirst in 12 hours.
It's dawn. Priests may pray to regain spells.
FYI, you've all been awake for 12 hours, having chosen to travel by night. 24 hours without sleep will trigger similar Con Saves, also found in the House Rules. Thanks.
The situation remains dire. None of you have any food or water.Zhym wrote:How long has it been since we've eaten?

Yup. I've just posted these under House Rules:Zhym wrote:Are there any consequences in terms of game mechanics from starvation?
- Inferno wrote:Survival: Thirst, Starvation and Sleep Deprivation:
Active characters need a gallon of clean water and a pound of nutritious food per day to avoid starvation. In very hot climates, active characters need three gallons of water per day. I'll rule that adopting a nocturnal sleep cycle in the desert will reduce that requirement to 2 gallons a day.
Thirst:- A character can go without water for 36 hours. After this time, the character must make a Constitution Save on 1d20 each hour (at a penalty of +1 for each previous check) or take 1d3 points of subdual damage* and lose 1 point of Strength, 1 point of Dexterity, and 1" of movement. This movement loss will prohibit charging.

This movement loss will prohibit charging.
After 5 days without food, the character must make a Wisdom Save on 1d20 each hour (with a +1 penalty for each previous check) or experience temporary madness and hallucinations.
*Subdual damage:- Subdual damage from thirst or starvation can result in unconsciousness and death. It cannot be recovered until the character gets food or water, as needed. Not even magic that restores hit points heals this damage.
Once the character gets food or water, subdual damage heals per hour, not per day.
6 hours of sleep per day prevents or cures these effects.

Re: Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
We started in media res after many (most?) of those 24 hours had already passed. I had assumed Arthfael was casting Create Water every day and that the party had water in their water skins. I would also assume that he would know by now how many castings he would need each day to keep everyone supplied with enough water. It's only the way the game started that has Arthfael reaching the morning of a new day with an unused Create Water spell while the party hasn't had any water to drink for 24 hours. So I'd suggest that the party wouldn't have gone a full day without water and should have just run out of its water supply for the day, with Arthfael having used his spell(s).Inferno wrote:It's been 2.5 days since any of you had food, and 1 day since any of you had water (including Mako who I'll rule found a dead camel from the caravan days ago, carrying water. Also, under those rules, 1.5 gallons of water per day doesn't seem to be any better than getting no water at all. Is that the intent, or should there be different effects based on partial vs. total dehydration?
ETA: For an example of the all-or-nothing effect of the current rules, consider two strategies by Arthfael to keep everyone hydrated:
(1) He creates 2 gallons of water per person every 36 hours.
(2) He creates 1.5 gallons of water per person every day.
If I understand the rules correctly, strategy (1) avoids any penalties for thirst because no one goes 36 hours without getting at least 2 gallons of water. But strategy (2) results in increasing penalties for thirst because no one ever gets 2 gallons of water at once, even though the amount of water created over time is exactly the same. That can't be what's intended, right?
Re: Dreamlands (ooc and questions l)
Hi,
Every dawn Arthfael prays for new spells. You chose one Create Water for yesterday's spells, and it hasn't been cast yet. If you want to change that to 2 Create Waters instead, I'll happily allow that to be backcalled.
This morning, Arthfael can cast up to 2 Create Waters, pray, get new spells, and cast up to 3 more Create Waters.
Strategy 1 and 2 are both acceptable.
Thanks.
