Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light

Deceidon

The fighter-thief nods at Flynn and tries to hide in shadows and proceed silently, joining Gustov who is attempting the same. "Reconnoiter and position for backstab," whispers Deceidon to Gustov.

Whitsell hears the familiar ring, reminding him of his youthful days of metal working. While he cant tell what they are mining for. He does feel his curiosity is rising. He carefully follows in line, ready for what may be...

Gustov and Deceidon quietly and stealthily explore the source of the noises. As they descend eastward, they notice that the path forks again into two, one direction heading north, another heading south east. The same sounds can be heard echoing from both paths, but they ring more distinctly to the north.

Deceidon

After checking for trip wires at the fork, Deceidon and Gustov proceed down the north corridor.

And attempting hide in shadows and move silently.

Using the rolls from above, pulled from the roller, Gustov manages to move quietly but fails to do so stealthily. Deceidon trips and falls to the ground, creating enough noise to make whatever or whoever was producing the noise to stop. (Perhaps I should let you guys roll for your own skills for a change ) You can hear some clattering noises approach you from the north...

Deceidon rights himself, pulls back his bowstring, ready to loose arrows on what is coming down the halls.

[Grognardsw]

Fynn hears noise from ahead. He's not suppose to hear the stealthy pair. The duelist moves forward, motioning Whitsell to follow, and Amber at the back.

Whitsell follows, ready for action.

Four skeletal miners approach you, tattered in bandit clothing (minus the light helmet). Their picks are raised and they move much faster than their zombie predecessors.

[Grognardsw]

Deceidon

Deceidon's eyes widen at the sight of more skeletons. He fires his nocked arrow at the lead skeleton.

Flynn

The swashbuckler hears sounds of combat ahead. "Come Whitsell!" Flynn says, running forward with weapons drawn.

Whitsell readies his long sword and follows along. He is curious to see if his newly found plate holds up as well as if he had made it.

[Rukellian]

Deceidon is quick to regain the advantage after his tumble, nocking an arrow and firing it with deadly precision. The first skeleton shatters into a pile of bones upon the impact of the arrow. Flynn and Gustov also leap into action taking down a skeleton each rather easily, dagger and rapier moving swiftly. The last of the four skeletons descend upon Whitsell, but its pick axe is shrugged off quite easily, not even scratching the plate mail. With a quick arc of his sword, Whitsell too sends the skeleton into a heap of bones.

The group won initiative this round and the skirmish ended quite quickly, but even now, the sounds of combat has attracted even more clattering of bones from the other path, much more clattering... The torch that you guys have been carrying slowly starts to lose its flicker of life. Its about to go out.

Deceidon

Deceidon lights his other torch using the old while saying to Whitsell: "I'm out of oil. Throw a flask on the floor and we can ambush with fire and finish with steel."

[Grognardsw]

Flynn

The swashbuckler nods at Deceidon's suggestion. He prepares for the oncoming undead.

[Rukellian]

The next update will depend on whether Whitsell will use the oil like Deceidon suggested, or not. I will give him till the end of tomorrow to respond.

(sorry, laid up in bed for the past few days.)

Whitsell responds, "Friend. Let us not waste our precious oil. This lantern I hold may end up being our light source soon, and I would rather not be running throough here in the dark.

"The shambling bones before us are much more fragile than their predecessors. I agree with our armored friend here when I say that we need not waste oil on these things..." Gustov puts away the dagger in his right hand and produces a pick axe, charging towards the first of many skeletons before them. The amount of shambling bones present is enough to fill the whole pathway completely. 10...14.... at least 15 are currently visible, though you have a hard time keeping track of the growing numbers as combat begins.

Will provide a map update later, for now, consider the fighting two on two in space. Right now I have Gustov up front with Deceidon, with Flynn and Whitsell right behind them. They are at the intersection currently and Gustov has engaged the skeletons on the southeastern path. (as a reminder, when fighting skeletons, slashing attacks deal only half damage, piercing and arrow attacks can deal up to about 2 max, excluding sneak attacks, and blunt damage deals normal).

12 or 15 skeletons is still quite dangerous to a high AC, 27 HP guy with no blunt weapons, so...

Deceidon moves back to let the plate-armored, fresh fighter Whitsell engage the approaching skeletons. He grabs the torch to use as a weapon, lighting his own torch from it to use as a second weapon.

These are coming toward us, but we could retreat, correct? trying to see if there is a smarter approach than simple fighting. Whitsell has a mace that he is profecient but not specialized in. It will be a fairly long fight with that many...
