Day 4 - Late Afternoon - Clearing by Forest's Edge/Inside the Forest

Stonjuz returns to the clearing shouting for Swilbosh. He notices the lizardman near the shore, out of the lake, and he walks towards the dwarf when he hears his name summoned. As his companion approaches the dwarf notices is arms are laden with fishes.

"Where isss everyone?! I finisshed fisshing and all were gone." he says to Stonjuz.

So if the party wants to camp and await the morn according to Andrin's plan we need to know exactly where they're camping. Somewhere in the stairs is not a good option, the steps are to narrow to bunk in. Going up back to the tunnel entrance is an tiring proposition, and you won't get there before night. The base of the stairs is part of the clearing, there is no need to leave it to reach them.

"What do you think of these?"The dwarf extends a palm and unfolds the leaf, exposing the needles to Swilbosh.
"Do you know where they come from? I'm athinkin' we can use 'em for leatherwork, if nothin' else."
He folds the needles back up and stores them with the backpack. "The group is gonna try and make camp right here, I think." Stonjuz puts the turtle on a log and turns to help make camp.
"Ah, here they come. They can explain it better."

We had some unexpected trouble. the ranger explains to Swilbosh.

Ogirdor looks around assessing the clearing and the surrounding area I think we should shelter under the woods that border the clearing.

"I hope that our decision to stay in this place won't be taken as an offense." Andrin looks uncomfortable as his eyes gaze over the surrounding woods. "I will now go and place some messages that will hopefully be noticed. Can someone lend me a knife, please? I forgot to bring one along on this trip...."

Andrin then leaves once more for the woods. Hoping not to meet more of the plant creatures, he doesn't move further than 200 yards from the camp. He'll leave marks and signs of druidic nature in places where they can be easily noticed. On trees, treestumps and dead wood, careful not to harm any living trees that way. The signs indicate his relation to the Old Faith, his wish to negotiate with the local druids and to pass these woods in peace.

Malone looks around, making a circle to take in the setting. He isnt fond of camping in a clearing, especially after seeing a porcu-pine tree attack the party. What else is out there, he wonders.
But, he doesnt see much alternative, either.

If we bed down here, what is the watch schedule? I can do whatever shift is required.

"No telling whats in the woods. Nothing's been up these stairs in a hundred years at least. Guess it wouldnt hurt to look around, but I'd prefer to stay away from any trees right now."
Stonjuz seems to say something to the turtle. "look around a bit".
(Not using the amphibian as divination of any kind, but he just thinks the turtle's instincts are as good as anyone else's, at the moment, including his own, save for the druid, in whom the dwarf is hoping gets us out of this predicament)
He notices the direction that the turtle is facing, and says, to Andrin, "How about right over there? We can just shift all this stuff over to THAT side of the clearing here. A bit of covering foilage maybe."

"I trust in the wisdom of your turtle, Stonjuz", answers Andrin. "This place looks as good as any other for a campsite." He then turns to Ogirdor. "Thank you for your offer to scout the surroundings first, Ogirdor. An axe isn't what I had in mind though. Malone, could I borrow one of your daggers for this?", Andrin asks the warrior.

Malone figures there must be a reason, so he nods...Of course. Just let me know if you need help.
He grabs one of his daggers and hands it over.

"Thank you. Now let's go, Ogirdor, and see that we get this done soon."

OOC: Andrin then goes about to leave signs and messages as described in my earlier posting.

The dwarf watches the procedure that Swilbosh uses to eat the fish raw. As the lizardman just rips into it, teeth first, Stonjuz will take a smaller fish and cut it down the belly. Most of the guts he gives to Turtlepoo. He lays it aside while reaching for another. "I'll clean enough for all of us. Can we get a fire going yet? I imagine that would send a message to them druids. Or we just diggin' in to this catch like young Swilbosh here?"

Ozborn tries not to look as queasy as he feels watching Swilbosh chomp the fish, guts and all. He shakes his head and laughs."Swilbosh, I don't understand you, but I like you. You keep things weird." Then, reflecting on the spine shooting plant men, he realizes things are pretty weird already, without any help from the lizard man.

"I'll get a fire going. And I volunteer to be on first watch. I'm still a bit worked up. Don't think I could sleep. I suppose we could set up two lookouts, one looking up the stairs and one with an eye on the clearing. In case we get attacked from the woods by some more wild topiary..."

Oz will work on getting the fire going.

Thurinor helps Oz with the fire. "Yes, it will be hard to sleep this night. I don't wonder that our camp will alert anything lurking about, and yet the promise of fire and copious amounts of fish to cook over it is not to be denied."

Thurinor studies the nearby mountainside as if worried about attack from above.

Day 4 - Early Evening - Clearing by Forest's Edge/Inside the Forest

As the sun beings to retire beyond the western mountain peaks Swilbosh eats, Stonjuz cleans the fishes, Malone gets a fire started, Thurinor keeps watch and Andrin finishes his duridic markings and makes the way back to camp accompanied by Ogirdor.

Who's grilling the fishes? Anyone got any salt? Parsley?

Malone finishes making the BSA approved fire, safely contained in a well built pit. He will skewer some fishes and place them on the coals. As they are roasting, he will ask,

"Shall we assign the watch schedule? Do we need one or two at a time? I can take whatever shift is necessary to allow those who need rest to get it.

Thurinor can't help feeling antsy, being so near the forest. His curiosity bids him enter beneath the eaves and walk through the night, but the smell of the roasting fishes brings him back to his companions and the obvious necessity to stay together. "I do hope your messages bring some response, friend druid. I for one would like a walk through the woods. Under starlight and moonbeam, preferably..."

OOC: Normal watch schedule looks good...

I'll advance into night and (hopefully) next day sometime during the weekend. Those that haven't yet, remember you can select a skill, possibly two, for your PC but it is not mandatory: viewtopic.php?f=45&t=649&p=38392#p38268
