OOC: no worries on being skipped there. Yes, let's just move it along back to Gaul.

Maybe our blundering about has earned us enough XP for a level? If not, close enough that we might consider a closer quest of a more mundane sort or even spend our coin on the festival to get needed XP.

As long as there is proper compensation, and it's role played out, im not opposed to trading magic items with other PCs.

The others lead the mounts off the engraving at Bremen's request and then load up their sacks of treasure and coin upon them, prepared for the way back. With some coaxing, the mounts are back out through the narrow archway. The party ascends back into the afternoon sunlight.

They are about 40' from the sunken archway when a huge rock careens past their heads and shatters behind them on the archway's lintel. With shrill cries of triumph, nine kobolds jump out of their hiding places and run forward, surrounding you on all sides (including behind to cut off a retreat into the arch) at about 30' with primitive spears pointed at you.One large brute of an ogre stands ahead of you, the apparent rock hurler.

Olaf:

(in kobold) "See? See? I told you! They went into the Dying Rooms! They must have treasures! Treasures!"

A particularly snide kobold barks at you in common, "Drop your treasures, Humans! We take your hoofs and all they carry!"

They look hostile, excited, and hungry for combat.

Gotta say that when that opened, I thought it was the gargoyles... This isn't so bad...

Bremen is in no mood to lose the little treasure we have. Happy to try dousing the ogre in oil or send a crossbow bolt at him. Or we could try to get them to go up the hill to the gargoyles. use the crossbow to attack a gargoyle. Then run when the gargoyles attack the ogre...

Olaf grins. "'Bout time we stopped with the talky-talk. Time to get wit' the bashin!" He goes at the nearest enemy with his pick axe.

Captain Bremen hurls a flask of oil at the ogre and misses. [1d20+2] = 4+2 = 6

Seeing the others react with action, Bandy draws his sword and strikes out at the ogre!!!

OOC: he gets a -2 AC bonus vs larger than man-sized creatures, which puts him at AC2.

In LL does his strength bonus carry over to slings? I dont see where it doesnt. If true, it would be at 17 and 4 above.

Since Bandy seems to be holding the ogre for now (he would have jumped in to keep the creature from continuing to hurl rocks unopposed), he moves to engage kobolds near Bandy's flank to protect him from one side and to be close if Bandy requires backup.

His blade flashes forward, snicker snack, with deadly speed and accuracy.

Scoffing the small size of the kobolds, the party engages abruptly, drawing weapons and rushing the foes who would waylay them for coin.

Bremen lights a flask of oil and heaves it at the ogre, but it flies wide, while Markd sails a rock at one of the kobolds, squarely hitting him in the face but not disabling him from the fight. Bandy sprints forward to face the ogre on foot, drawing its attention downward and preventing further throwing of rocks, but fails to land his sword blow. Olaf steps into the fight with a mighty swing of his pick but misses the fleet little dog-faced creature. Seeing the rest of his companions already engaged, Irving draws his uncle's sword and charges forward as well, cleaving down the kobold to the right of Bandy with a mighty blow.

The ogre is incensed at the brazenness of his small Halfling foe. He swings his club, catching Bandy in mid-dodge. The Halfling flies to the side, unconscious and limp on the hillside.

The kobolds rush forward with feral yells, the chaotic attack of the remaining eight dog-faced creatures clumping randomly as they charge with their spears. Two come at Olaf but both miss as he roars in return, his armor and shield deflecting their blows. Two of them come at Bremen, one spear catching the shoulder gap in his armor and dropping him as well. Three of them charge Markd, perhaps drawn by his unholy glyph. He deflects two of their blows but he opens himself to the third, which catches him in the head. Blood gushes and he also drops to the ground.

Olaf and Irving stand alone among their companions as the kobolds reorient and the ogre advances on them.

Olaf growls and swings his pick axe wildly, trying to hit everyone but striking no one.

Knowing one shot probably won't be enough to take the ogre down, but feeling very much in his element, Irving focuses his offensive efforts on the nearest kobold while trying to interpose himself as the most likely target for the ogre's next attack, keeping shield ready for the inevitable crushing blow.

Wow. A THAC0 of 15 for a 4+ HD creature just seems... low. But I guess it's not? THAC0 for a lvl 5 fighter is 16, which is just a little higher.
