Hi
Case for sneaking by them: Save our strength!
Leave no trail of dead ogres.

Case for killing them: We can surprise them, attacking their backs. Our thieves and ranger will be able to deal some serious damage in one round.
If don't kill 'em, they'll be behind us, possibly following us when they're done with the two sleeping giants.
I could cast Charm on one of the ogres for questioning and mapping the place. So we just need to kill two.
Max's silence spell can keep the fight quiet (he might burn that spell anyway since not all of us are sneaky).
We can hide the bodies, I suppose.

Case for doing nothing/waiting: I speak Hill Giant and could cast Ventriloquism, to have one of their "masters" summon them away.

Negotiating is dangerous. We lose the element of surprise and they could easily cry for help. (We can't silently negotiate, and I can only Charm one of them at a time, two max. I'd rather save that second Charm for a Giant.)

I'm for attacking them; killing two and charming one.
Thoughts?

Arnar is for attacking them.

Maybe charm the one first, make him move away from the other two and cover his eyes? You charm one and we attack the other two, he's going to get extra saves to break the charm.

Quick notes to add:

I also speak Hill Giant and have 2 Silence Spells; so burning one still leaves me with one.

On to "strategery"....

If we go forth on the attack option; I can cast the Silence spell on a bullet.....keep it on my person as Herzog and I sneak forward to attempt to get into Backstabbing position. After our initial attack, we can back away while leaving the Silenced bullet near the Ogres to keep their yelling/screaming quiet.

Just spitballin'......:)

Good thoughts.
If I Charm first do we lose the element of surprise (and backstab damage) on the other two who will hear me casting? If yes, maybe we all act simultaneously?

Also, we have to be careful with the Silence spell. The Charm spell has a verbal component, and then I need to instruct the charmed ogre verbally. Maybe the Silence spell goes off right after the Charm spell?

Thoughts?

I am all for backstabbing the bastards. I do have invisibility potions, but I've been loathe to use them yet. I do not want any sort of alarm, despite my character's delight in slaughter. If we can execute this battle quietly, we are definitely in the advantage.

Deadline today.
Let's act simultaneously to attack two and charm the third, with silence cast hot on the heels of the charm spell?

(Herzog) Do we want to execute the snoring giants? I could go invisible, sneak past and kill the buggers fairly clean - since we are in a silenced zone. If we minimize the blood, or diminish the light, we could create the same 'illusion' that we did upstairs. Or I could just join in and whack on the ogres...

My two cents? Ogres!

The giants are in a comatose state due to the Sprites' magic arrows, and won't awaken especially with the Ogres silenced. :)

Phaeus will go for killing the ogres and then open main outside doors and invite the bears in to feast. They will make a distraction when discovered and while they are chased away we can sneak through the other rooms. Plus Phaeus will call his (un)faithful companion blink dog to heel.

Actions up to the point that the DM goes missing:
6pm – Party arrives – it’s raining and there’s a party going on!

6:20p – The Sprites come back with news of the Dire Wolves in the Courtyard

7p – The party sneaks up to the Steading

7:10p – The party climbs into the Guard Tower – Arnar (dwarven fighter) kills the sleeping Hill Giant

7:20p – The bears head off to harass the wolves

7:30p – Phaeus (Ranger) sneaks down the stairs to check out the Main Entrance and espies three Ogres entering

7:35p – rest of the party comes down the steps and all note the Ogres (awake) and Giants (asleep)

7:42p – Jack (human, MU (Dr)) casts Charm Monster charming one Ogre, Elam (human Thief (Cl)) brings his Silenced bullet and sneaks toward the Ogres

7:42p (?) – Party attacks! Arnar and Phaeus finish off one of the Ogres

7:43p – Elam, Phaeus, Herzog (gnome, Ftr/Th), and Ethwig (human cleric) team up to kill the other Ogre

7:53p – Arnar gladly finishes the two sleeping Hill Giants, the Main Entrance is a bloody mess of bad guys and their guts, Silence bullet is placed in furthest NW corner of room

Apologises everyone for not writing sooner. Okay after some thought I think Phaeus would offer the following strategy, if approved with majority group consensus we can go for it..?

I think this kitchen scene is a battle we can win and (although I have no idea what info Jack will bring back) . I suspect the feast going on will be more and better armed giants, guards and beasties.

So Phaeus is all for disrupting the place here, free the orcs (that is a challenge for him character wise...hoping the your enemy is my enemy will get them go jump the ogres...?).

The freed orcs may run amok in the place and bear the blame for the guest room fire when found.

Start with the thieves, skillfull under cover, under tables or just invisible sneak up and behind two giantesses. Back stab, that is our signal to attack from the corridor, slaying the giants and ogres.

Unless we all use dust of disappearance and sneak through, but Phaeus is ready for a bit of carnage.

Happy new year.

Jack can charm one orc but not an ogre. Maybe we slay everyone in the kitchen except one orc, who we use to poison the giants in the feasting hall?

Does anyone have real poison, or the ability to brew it?
