Expedition: Halfpint/Into The Woods - 05 Sep 2021

Halfpint has her pony. She can leave it at Armistad. No clue what to expect. Hoping to stay above ground, but havent been successful in any adventure todate.

Earc has a fine riding horse he would be bringing. He can likewise leave it in Amistad if the need arises.

When you all are ready:

Finalize with some IC posts that you're ready to go from Frogmorton. You'll then have a safe trip to Amistad escorted by the Ogres.

Starbeard will handle your entry into Amistad (go look at the wonderful locations he made!) and then anything you want to handle there (like stabling your mounts) before jumping off for actual adventure in the woods from Amistad as a startpoint.

You'll need to tell Starbeard what your direction and objective is when setting out from Amistad.

After an eventful layover in Gaul and Beith's Watch, Lug makes his way to Frogmorton Ford. He is dressed in his new Red Dragon Plate, with his old dire wolf cloak over it. The cloak is starting to look a little worn, but Lug still wears it like a trophy. He also wears the silver wing pin and pouch of tree witch hair he got so long ago and far away. He carries a huge two-handed sword on his back, and a stone jug is hanging at his side. He rides a war horse clad in barding. It's hard to imagine that the horse could carry much more than the barding and Lug's substantial bulk, but a few mostly-empty saddlebags also hang from the horse.

"Okay!" he cheers. "Let's get this party started!"

Lug has 5 weeks of good meals, for 5 days of +2 to saves.

I'll post Piers' arrival tonight. I'm just waiting to see if he has recruited some mule-handlers, and to adjust his inventory and cash for all the things he's bought. Sorry!

Returning, leveling-up and leaving immediately while still technically in town is a complicated business.

Piers arrives in town shortly after Lug, wearing the same kind of armor. "We're obviously going to have to consult each other when we get dressed each morning", he quips. He has a mule in tow and what appear to be several mule-skinners tagging along.

"So we're off in to the wilderness then. When do we start?"

Lug peers down at the skinny cleric. "I think I'll know if I try to put your armor on. And if you find yourself walking around inside the armor like it's a house, you'll know you tried to put mine on."

Hi everyone! Your friendly neighborhood sub-DM here.

Since we've already got this expedition thread started, here's what I'm thinking we'll do about going to Amistad: rather than posting directly to the Amistad threads and then jumping back to this thread once we set off into the wilderness, let's keep everything in one place and conduct Amistad business right here in this thread. I'll also cross-post links to our thread in the Amistad forum, so that the chronology of what goes on in the village is visible there too.

Once the expedition leader Halfpint makes the decision to head out for Amistad, we'll get started.

As a point of interest: is there anything available in Amistad that isn't available in Gaul?

And do our days of bonuses from good meals, etc. start when we leave Amistad?

Materially no, at least not yet. At the moment some things will be cheaper or more expensive based on the local industry, and plenty will be less available. As for services, the village is home mostly to humans and ogres, and the enterprising adventurer might be able to hire an ogre or two as mercenaries.

The food bonus will start once you leave Amistad.

Hi! Is it too late for Anforthas to join? He's new to the North Marches and is already equipped... And good with handling animals. Maybe the best job a 1st level Fighter can get around here?

As the pilgrimage prepares to leave the Frogmorton Ford, Lord Earc surveys the gathering of adventurers and explorers and glances over at the Frogmorton kids.

"Well... the shares might not be huge, but at least you'll each get your own," he says to them quietly.

"Yes, yes, indeed you are welcome! What sorts of skills do you bring to the party, Anforthas?"

Anforthas turns to Earc and answers him with a slight bow of his head in recognition: Thanks Earc. Well, I was in a mercenary company for most of my youth. I spent most of my teens taking care of the horses and learning how to fight. I got to lead a little troop of soldiers back then... Unfortunately I didn't bring any animal with me. I traveled with a caravan up north, working as a guard.

Translation: animal handling and soldier/officer

He clears his voice and adds: I'm nevertheless ready. I think I've enough supplies for surviving in the wilderness for about a week. Maybe more. And have my trusted sword here. he adds tapping at the sword pommel, sheathed in its scabbard.

Earc nods, "Then welcome, friend. We are happy to have you along, and your sword, as well, should it be needed!"

He looks at Halfpint, "Are we waiting on anyone else? Are we heading north on this side of the river, passing Toll's Tower? Or are we crossing at the ford and heading north from there? If we pass by Toll's Tower, I can pick up a few things along the way..."

I believe the three halflings would get rations from their mom, who is an excellent cook. Also, the three halflings are under Earc, as far as Charisma checks go. He was the one who convinced their mom and signed them on.

Concerning the objects you might be able to buy and provide, Anforthas is a 1st level Fighter. This is his first adventure, so not much on the magic items side. But I understand I just arrived! Surely most things are of better use for others in the group.
