Sigismund

"I just met your sister a few hours ago M'Lord, yet I would call her friend as she has shown me great kindness and support, in fact I would count all of these fine folks as friends, as they escorted me to town through brigand infested territory to deliver a package for my former master as a last act of apprenticeship. If there is anything I can do to help Lady Mave in the mean time to pay her back for her kindness please let me know what it is I can do." he says bowing his head to the Knight before him.

Thena

With a slight bow, and happy someone seems to have manners: Sir Garet, Thena, crusader of Tempus. It is difficult to understand why the brute and his champions intend to take our lady into custody. Could you enlighten us?

Edited, to be a bit less harsh... :D

Nis greets lord Garet with a smooth curtsy, her hand gracefully extended. A kind and thankful smile plays over her lips as she speaks. Sir Gallowhawk. An honor to meet you. My thanks for coming to our defense, sir knight. I only wish others had the good sense to summon such fine manners on occasion. (meaning Macree). I met your sister the Lady Mave only a couple of days ago when assisting in the capture of these prisoners. Even in such a short time she has proven herself to be quite a formidable ally. Wise, level-headed, kind and with no fear of wading into the thick of things for her people's sake. You give the impression that such gifts run in the family. She grins, mischievously.

She motions for De'Athrya to come over as well. And this is my young charge mss De'Athrya, whom we rescued from the louts. And may I also present, my dear friend, Priestess Abaessa.

Bryne looks Sir Garet over, then nods to him. "I am The Lady Bryne Valshire, Ranger of Aisland. I am a traveling companion of your sister these past few weeks."

Wilwayaisawén

Wilwarin watches carefully as Macree is “corrected” by Garet. The man is apparently secure in his authority, and only humouring the knight. “Another corrupted community. We must be careful what we say.”, she thinks to herself.

Aloud, she says: Your arrival is both welcome and well-timed. Your sister is an honourable person, a good companion, and an admirable representative of your family. To be met with such disrespect by a servant of your father was, I admit, shocking. I had formed the opinion this was no longer a civilised place, and you begin to disprove that thesis.

Sir Garet Gallowhawk returns Sigismund nods, "I see sir, well met indeed. Might I inquire as to the nature of your apprenticeship? And perhaps I may guide you in the delivery of your package."

He then turns his attention to Thena returning her bow, "A crusader of Tempus? Well my sister has certainly improved her class of friends. They were mostly confined to the gambling dens of the docks before she found your company," he grins. "I assume you are here to visit the Temple of Battle and Brother Lucente?"

Garet takes Nis' hand and lightly kisses it, "A pleasure milady, though I must admit that is the first time I've heard Mave referred to as particularly wise, though I do thank you for your kind words." He squats down so he is eye-level with De'Athyra, "And a pleasure to meet you young miss." De'Athyra grins widely and begins to chatter in her foreign tongue. Garet cocks his head, "Vagary if I'm not mistaken. I've never mastered that tongue, though I've met several of your brethren." Abaessa nervously bows to the knight, "Abaessa Dalavere good sssir," she gets out though she stutters slightly on sir, "This is my place of birth, though we've nought met before." The knight likewise takes her hand and kisses it, "Such is my loss then. Dalavere you say? Any relation to Aurens Dalavere?" Abaessa nods, "My father sir." Garet replies, "Well then I am doubly surprised we have not met, as your father is one of my father's trusted advisors." He then realizes he still holds her hand and releases it, "He is a good man."

He then looks to Bryne as she introduces herself, "Ah the jewel of Oakhurst. Tales of your beauty and skill have preceded you. I've faced your brother Paden on the tourney fields. He is a formidable warrior and a good lord from what I hear. An honor to finally meet you."

Bowing before Wilwarin, "You honor me and I am pleased to have disproved your theory. Occasionally civility here rises to the occasion."

He then salutes Torvik and his recruits, "Our city is honored to host the prestigious Rangers of the Horn, in addition to Lady Valshire."

He then returns his attention to Thena, "As to enlightening you, to make a long story short, my father had betrothed my sister to the son of Lord Timrec Fallow of House Fallow at a very young age. And the time had come for a wedding betwixt our two houses. This was to take place when my sister fled wishing no part of being a wife to the young knight of House Fallow. Well within her rights, I thought, but father is a rock when it comes to his decisions. And he would improve the prospects of House Gallowhawk. I don't know if you are familiar with our House but we are considered one of the lesser Houses, unlike House Valshire. We are descended from pirates who saved our good king's great grandsire many years ago. And my father believes this arranged marriage will improve our House's standings amongst the royal lines. I'm sure its only a matter of time before he tries to marry me off to some young lady of House Poppincock or some sort." He furrows his brow, "Thankfully I am the middle child and male so there is less pressure for me to do so."

Thena

In response to Sir Garet:
At the mention of the temple: Yes, The Temple of Battle, of course.

Regarding the description of Mave's situation: I did not understand the depth of the tangle.... there is potential for a forced marriage then? Fairly barbaric thinking there. Is there anything myself and my comrades at arms and majick might do to ease or rationalize this situation in Mave's favor?

Truly? Well, it didn't take long before we found ourselves in a situation where she exhibited calm, wisdom and grace under pressure... she muses for a moment. Perhaps I was just lucky. she smiles. After he speaks with De'ath, Nis smiles and claps. Vagary? Oh, perfect! We had no idea, honestly. None of us have been able to figure it out. Pray tell, do you know anyone hereabouts who could help us communicate? A translator perhaps?

Would it not show greater strength of your house for the heirs to be independent enough to grow their own destinies?

Garet responses first to Thena, "You will find the temple this way," giving her rough directions. Then turning his attention back to Mave, "A forced marriage seems to be the path my father pursues. And as I said he is a rock when it comes to his opinions. But even the heaviest rock can be moved by the merest stream of water, if the conditions are right. So I'd like to propose an idea to you. My father will be having a late dinner tonight for the family, including Mave's potential suitor. As Mave's friends, I'd like to invite you to that dinner. Perhaps the stream of you good folk could move the rock that is my father. And of course you could stay with us if you like. Whether it be to offer accommodations to my sister's friends and provide more access to that stream or perhaps to attend her impromptu nuptials."

He grins at Bryne's assessment of him, "I am a true terror to behold in all my pursuits. And I've heard the same is true of you milady. Perhaps tonight I can witness them in person."

He then looks in the young mage's direction, "Sigismund, the court wizard here is named Malaguerre. He will be at dinner tonight so you can deliver it in person tonight or I can offer you directions to his tower. It is not far from here."

Returning his gaze to Nis, Abaessa and De'Athyra he says, "Well perhaps it only sibling rivalry and I fail to recognize her true traits. Though I admit, I have had to bail her out of a few scrapes she managed to entangle herself in. And as to independence, it is unfortunately not wished for in my father's only daughter. As to your young lady here," looking down at De'Ath, "I know of two options for those who speak her tongue. There is an encampment, north of town in the woods of a small troupe of vagary. They are enticing the residents of our city to their wagons for fortune telling, games of chance, sort of a small fair of sorts. Then there is the witch Mediphera, who has a house in the city. Though I've heard she is reclusive and not fond of visitors. If you go to the woods tonight to see those encamped there, I'd recommend you be on your guard. There are rumors that the vagary allowed one of the wild cats from their menagerie to escape. No one's been hurt yet but several travelers journeying back have been badly frightened." He looks at each of three, "I'd hate for anything untoward to happen to three such lovely ladies." Abaessa who blushed brightly at Nis' teasing manages to say, "The Moonmaiden will guide us safely should we choose to go sir."

Garet then bids you goodnight, "I hope to see you all at dinner. I will leave word with the guards that you may be attending."

Nis curtseys again to Sir Garet, A welcome invitation and wealth of information, my good sir knight. I am in your debt. she smiles sweetly. And Abaessa is right, we are not so innocent and helpless as we may seem. she says, with mischievous grin.

After Garet has gone she turns to the others. Our first hours in town and already such a fine invitation! I should have suspected traveling with nobles would reap such benefits. she says teasingly to Bryne.

===
Nis will definitely want to visit Mediphera, and of course join the dinner.

Would she have enough time to go to the Vagary carnival and be back in time for dinner?

Thena

Sir Garet, thank you for the directions and of course I will attend the dinner. It is not my usual nor place to ask favors but we have recovered some items in need of identification of the arcane origin. Can you a service that we might leverage in this regard?

She will wait to see what happens next and then chat with her comrades regarding next steps.

@Revenant: Please excuse me if I missed this, what time of the day is it?

Wilwayaisawén

Wilwarin remains somewhat in the background, the hood of her cloak obscuring her elven features.

She smiles at Garet: If you think our presence can help shift the alignment of your father’s thought’s, it is our pleasure to attempt to do so. I accept your hospitality in that cause.

Following Thena's request, Wilwarin adds, to Sigismund:
On our way here, we have recovered some artefacts that are beyond our skill to fully divine the nature of. Perhaps, if he is not too busy, the wizard Malaguerre would assist us with them? Hopefully your arrival will incline him to look favourably on us.

As he moves back through the city gates into the city proper, Garet says, "I will see baths are awaiting you on your return, so that you may clean and dress properly for the dinner." He then disappears through a gated opening in the building immediately to the right as you enter the city gates.

Kade asks his commander, "Do you think we should accompany the ladies in their tasks before dinner? I'm not confident in the safety of the city, if it is anything like my home city."

Sigismund responds to Wilwarin's question, "I can certainly ask the wizard if he will assist in this task. As I said, he and my master are friends, so hopefully I will have some influence in seeking his help after I deliver the package he is awaiting."

As you move through the gates, the gate captain and his guards bolt the great doors in place and then lower a portcullis behind you before taking up position, guarding the gates once again.

We should, in my opinion, find an inn to call home while we are here, stable the horses there, maybe clean up a bit, and get to the party. Thoughts?

OCC: If I remember correctly we have more horses than party members... could be wrong.

It should be a good in and ideally close to where the party will be.
