Vesper

If the beetle that is attacking Starkad, still lives Vesper will strike out at it, if not she moves to assist Raz and strikes at one of the beetles attacking him.

Beetle-licious!

In the quarry mines of Red Larch, the companions seem to be about to repel the fire beetles intent upon eating them!
Suffering from blood loss, Kol staggers out of the way, growling in pain and anger. "Fracking bugs! I officially hate 'em!"
Hate them or not, the beetles are persistent...and deadly.
The lone beetle near Starkad, rears and severs the femoral artery in his thigh with its powerful mandibles! The druid drops, his leg nearly severed, and his life-force fading fast with the blood that spurts from the wound with every beat of his failing heart!

Only a few feet away, Raz calls for help, as the two beetles, having tasted the Gnome's flesh a few seconds ago, team up and bring the cleric down with two mighty bites to his stomach and side!

Appalled by Starkad's impending death, Vesper attacks his killer...but her blade glances off the hard shell of the beetle's back!
Moan appears at her shoulder and slashes at the beetle twice, and missing both times!

Mag rushes forward to help Raz, praying it's not too late. The Elf misses with his first attack, but then slashes at one of the beetles, taking most of its head clean off! It screeches and falls over kicking in death, as its companion turns toward the newest threat!

Things look grim for the companions as two of their companions fall, and two of the killer fire beetles remain!

Vesper curses as she and Moan are unable to stop the thing. Raising her sword, once more she attacks slipping in the pooling blood as she strikes.

"We're all gonna die!" Kol bellows, panic settling in to her soul. "Die in some bug-infested hole in the ground!" Clearly coming unhinged, the barbarian tries to attack, but misses.

The two remaining beetles snap and chomp at the companions, but Vesper and Mag fend them off with their swords!

Likewise, the three companions hack and slash, to no avail! The beetles tough carapaces deflect their blades!

Moan

Moan continues his attack, moving to the closest living beetle.

Long Sword +1 [1d20+4]=8+4=12 to hit [1d8+7]=1+7=8 damage
Long Sword +1 [1d20+4]=15+4=19 to hit [1d8+7]=8+7=15 damage

Much better this time.

Vesper

If any beetles still stand she will attack.
But if all opponents have fallen she will remove the Potion of Healing from her backpack and move to Starkard either trying to get him to swallow or applying it directly to the wound.

My knowlege of first edition is limited but can potions be used on unconscious characters?

Beetle Ending
Initiative Order: Kol & Beetles (1), Raz & Vesper (3), Mag & Moan (4), Mag (5)

As Starkad's life ends in the dark tunnels of the quarry, Kol reacts with a slash at the beetle which killed him, but her greatsword is unwieldy in here and she misses. The beetle snaps at her, its huge mandibles tearing at her boot, but not penetrating to her flesh. She squeals and jumps back.
Vesper runs over to attack, slashing at the beetle and misses.
Mag calls for help for the fallen comrades as he makes beetle juice out of the remaining beetle attacking him.
Moan pushes past Kol and skewers the last beetle.
Quiet descends upon the companions; only their labored breathing can be heard.
Starkad is dead and Raz is on his way to meet Gond, slowly but surely.

Actions?

You can use a potion on an unconscious character provided you can force the liquid down their throat.
Good question.

Moan

Does his Ranger healing allow him to stabilize Raz?

If so he will attempt to stabilize Raz.

Moan is able to stabilize Raz, and with Mag's assistance, staunches the blood flow, pulling the Gnome back from the grip of death.
"I didn't sign up for this shit," Kol spits, limping around in a circle, her head in her hands. "I'm taking Starkad's body and heading north. Y'all coming or you going deeper into this hell hole?"

Now that Starkad is stable, he'll be able to drink a healing potion with a bit of help. ;)

"Sorry to see you go Kol, good luck and safe travels."

Raz coughs and sputters and then opens his eyes. Moan is looking down on him with a satisfied grin.

Moan

With Raz at least functioning Moan turns to the dead Starkad and searches his body and gear for anything useful. "Seems we may need this more than him now."

Raz holds his head much like someone with a big of a hangover and groans a bit more "Uhh, is this purgatory?" he rubs his eyes and looks around recognizing where he is "Oh, I'm alive? Again? err Still? Moan did you save me? My thanks friend." the gnome moves to a sitting position and gathers himself and collects his morning star. Then notices the dead form of a friend. "Oh no Starkad? If only I was a priest of a higher training I might have been able to restore Starkad to life. Before anyone asks no not necromancy. Gond is not in favor of such practices." speaking his gods name he takes a moment of silence and prays his thanks for Gond seeing fit to return him from his death like state and prays for Starkad to be delivered to peaceful resting place. "I hate to say it but should we carry on or should we take the time to see if the dwarves can move our friends remains and give him a proper burial?" the gnome finally asks.
