Murq will attempt to break it with his blacksmithing hammer.

A blacksmithing hammer is very much inadequate for breaking through a bricked-up wall.

How about a chisel in combination with a blacksmith hammer? Murq may consider going back to Turq's dead body to retrieve it if he feels it could be effective.

That depends. Are you seeking to make a small hole with much work? Or are you seeking to gain entry to the area beyond? It might take a single person a good half an hour with a sledge hammer to make such a passage. It would be possible with a chisel, but would take far longer, as you'd have to remove your passage brick by brick.

Murq would like to chisel out a single brick and use his infravision to peer beyond. He'll head back to Turq to retrieve the chisel for this. I believe its four doors north then west through the arch to get back?

As Murq starts to walk away, Grim says, "Where are you going?"

"I'm heading back to grab my brother's chisel - I won't take long. I'd like to pry a brick or two and have a look behind this wall" Murq says.

Tap-tap. Tap-tap. Tap-tap. Jedak shuffles nervously, tapping his 10 foot pole all the while. Dugar takes a knee, bow and arrow gripped in one hand. "Lad, it would do you some good to learn a little patience."

Sigur just waits, staring back the way Murq went.

So, the important question is this....does Murq discover (or be discovered by) anything while he makes his way through the darkness?

Hmmmm....not on the way there.

Murq now has the chisel. He notes that the bodies, while charred, are far from completely burned. He has to chase off rats of the ordinary kind, which have found them and like a bit of semi-cooked meat.

No encounter on the way back, either.

Hmmm...nor does anything stumble onto the waiting party.

So, now that Murq is back, he begins tapping to remove a brick. This will take a bit of time, and the echoes of his work are somewhat alarming.

"Watch me back, guard the doors, and set up any traps you guys can think of while I tap away at this" Murq says to the others.

As a reminder; there is a corridor that bends to the south, and a door back the way you came.

While Murq is chipping at the bricks, we'll head south and see what's there.

Looking to the south, you can see 20 feet of corridor, then an archway, with at least 10 feet of corridor beyond the arch.

Jedak seems dubious, but agrees. Sigur and Dugar go along as well.

Just to clarify, the order is sort of like this:

Grim / Pikar
Jedak, reaching between w/ pole to tap floor as they walk, slowly.
Cisneros
Sigur / Dugar
Daryll

Murq was bringing up the rear, but now he's chiseling at the bricks.

Luckily, the tapping pole did its job, indicating a covered pit immediately where the hall turns south. Skirting this, you can approach the archway without further problems.

The arch seems no more than an old stone arch, with more hallway beyond. You can see 30 feet of hall going straight south, and then the hall seems to turn to the southeast, but you cannot be certain from here. Midway down the south section, on the right-hand side, it looks as though a bricked-up archway was knocked down....you can see the ragged open hole and many bricks piled around it and tumbled into the hallway.

The tapping of chisel on stone echoes down the passageway.

"Hmm... look at those bricks there, Pikar," Grim says. "Did they fall or were they blown out from inside?"

[Can either of them tell?]

Pikar and Grim both sniff the air... any gold or gems within 100'?
