"I'm checking this scroll to detect... Exploding Dice!”

My plan is to handle exploding dice with an exclamation point ( ! ) in the same position. But that's not here just yet.
Has there been any progress on this suggestion?
I'm assuming not, since I don't see it in the list of syntaxes for the dice roller.

I also can't tell if there are any current PbPs here of games that use open rolling/exploding dice. Savage Worlds is the one I have in mind personally.

Thanks for your consideration,
J.P.

Deadlands Reloaded (SW) used it but I lapsed that game when I lived in Azerbaijan.

I think 7th Seas in the Scenario Simulator used it also.

Hey guys I'm sorry but I never got around to developing the exploding dice thing... And the hosting provider updated the PHP version on the server and now the CAPTCHA has broken. So I'm trying to fix that (for the roller and my other sites as well).
SO, hopefully I'll be able to get back into this in a bit. Thanks, all!

Thanks for working on it Greg. I didn't know you had other sites. Are they RPG related?

No, they aren't, but I'm beginning to develop one where collectible RPG material can be listed for sale. We'll see what happens.

This is great news! Someone else had mentioned https://orokos.com/roll/ as a backup, but that's less than an ideal solution.

If I may be so bold, please try to ensure that the new feature allows the "_" modifier for users that want to see individual dice rolls in a chain.

Much obliged.

I'm working on exploding dice now, and want to verify a couple of points with those who would use it:
I'll assume that for exploding dice, you would always want to add the '_' operator (to show all individual dice).
Also, the end result would look like this:
Let's say a 4d6 roll... (2+3+6+6+1+3)=21
The third roll resulted in a 6, then the next roll resulted in ANOTHER 6, then the final exploding roll resulted in a 1.
Does this seem like a good syntax to use to display the results? Maybe there should be something that says this is an exploding result??? Like a '!' at the beginning???

It looks just like the show each die one unless you actually count the individual results which seems easy to miss to me so something so we know it is the exploding die one would be good I think.

The "!" could be an easy way to set the macro for explosion.

For me, having the results in numerical order makes it a little easier to find them. The assumption is that only the highest number possible on each die actually explodes. I'm not sure if it's feasible, but the ideal for me seems to be ordering the results numerically, after accounting for explosions. So a result with "_4d10k3!" might look like:

Code: Select all

(2, 5, 9, 27 (10,10,7)) = 41

Ok but I have a question: based on your example, you're wanting an exploding die WITH the k command as well? I see you've added the ! at the end... i was going to have it at the beginning... so !4d10... something like that.

In 7th Sea, the XdYkZ is the norm. I don't know about other games. If the "!" assumes the "_", then front or back is okay. When I wrote the macro example, I wasn't sure what the precedence would be.

Ok cool. I am working on this still. I know the answer it right there, but I haven't sorted it out just yet.

It seems quite a complicated macro. I would think if a Player or GM needs to roll multiple dice that may have 'exploding' results, it would be much better protocol to script your 4d6 or however many dice rolled into individual brackets

So: Boss Hogg: Exploding dice check: [1d6] [1d6] [1d6] [1d6]

and just have some dynamic input that commands 'if result of d6 = 6 then roll another, repeat until result is 1-5' or whatever the Explosive TN is, in Savage Worlds any high score on any dice; 4,6,8,10,12.

Seems awfully complicated to script commands to consider multiple dice that may or may not continually explode and then visually interpret that back into an action resolution.

If I were to use it at all my use would be pretty simple. Some games I have played in use exploding dice for damage so 1d6 and the 6 explodes. Maybe 2d6, that sort of thing. As long as it can handle the simple as well it would work for anything I would use it for.
