The orc archer aboard the raft, which is moving rapidly aft as the barge passes it by, grabs his chest as a crossbow bolt appears to sprout from it. He drops his bow and falls flat on his back. Aden is standing on the cargo hatch battens, with his hand crossbow raised.terrymixon wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 3:19 am
Mirek draws a short sword with his right hand, keeping his shortbow in his left. He strikes the half orc that is engaged with Amistad. Mirek: Attacks Half Orc [1d20+6]=12+6=18 As the half orc is within five feet of Amistad (one assumes as they are going after one another with hand weapons), Mirek can use a sneak attack on the enemy which will add 2d6 to his damage if he hits. Mirek: Short Sword Damage to Half Orc [1d6+4]=1+4=5+[2d6]=9 with 14 points of damage.

Dree takes aim at the archer across the barge from her, and holds her shot as he topples backward, while Aden and Amistad also block her view at the same moment.Darithe wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 9:16 pm Dree takes aim at the archer on the raft, firing an arrow.

Round Three
The stricken raft slips astern, spinning in the turbulent water as the barge continues southward under sail. The rafts on each side are losing ground in the race, as they only have paddles. They are just over 200 feet away, but they are still within bowshot. Three of the barge crew come forward. "Our friend was struck in the leg. Are any of you healers?"

"It is a skill I am learning. I have some 1st Aid kits in my pack though I have yet to fully grasp diagnosis and treatments. But I will tend the wound if no one else can help."
He will go to find the injured man and check out the wound, snapping the shaft and using a scalpel to dig out the barbs. He crudely stitches the wound using fishing line and bandages the man after.
Amistad [1d20]=15 vs 13 wisdom.
"This will hurt you a lot more than it hurts me.
And stop squealing. You are not a woman in labour. Here bite on this."
He puts the broken shaft in between the man's teeth to clamp upon.

Mirek will give the dead half orc a once over to see if he finds anything interesting after putting his sword and bow away.joertexas wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 9:58 pm Round Three

Aden goes over to where he dropped his longbow and picks it up dropping his hand crossbow back to his side, "Is it worth it to take a couple of shots at the rafts aft of us to discourage them from trying to pursue, do you think?"
Aden goes aft and takes aim with his longbow, it's a long shot, but he'll try one. Aden fires off an Attack with disadvantage [6,8] so [To Hit: 6+8=14] at the front paddler on the left. If he hits he does [7+4=11] damage to him.

Dree stands over Armistad as he attempts to heal the injured man watching quietly for several moments before tapping him on the shoulder. "True he is no woman in labour squealing as you put it," she smirks as she sits beside the injured man, "If men had to give birth there'd be no children at all." She looks over his wound and gently places both hands over it as she prays.

Elaith and the Caravan Master both chuckle at Dree's comments while they watch the rafts fall away astern. The archers aboard have apparently given up firing on the barge, as they have no hope of catching it. Two of the crewmen go forward to let out more sail to ensure that the barge doesn't slow down.
The ranger's words flow as she focuses on her prayers. A faint blue glow suffuses her hands, and then it flows like water over the man's thigh. The blood is seemingly washed away by the glow, and then the wounds slowly close. As Dree ends the prayer, the sailor relaxes with a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Healer. I have seen such magic before, but I've never before experienced it."
The dead attacker has nothing of value, only dirty clothing, worn boots, and a rusty, pitted scimitar. Once the body is removed, one of the crew takes a bucket and begins washing the blood from the deck.

Watches the 'Laying on of hands' by Dree. He is impressed to see faith in action.
As the clean up happens and the barge sails on, he takes a quiet moment of reflection with his totem. He is saddened that he had to take a life, not quite pragmatic. Killing others weighs on his conscience though he has fulfilled in part his commission to safeguard the vessel.

Aden steps back from where he fired off his parting shot and watches as Dree performs his healing spell saying quietly, "Always good to have a healer around."joertexas wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 4:24 pm Elaith and the Caravan Master both chuckle at Dree's comments while they watch the rafts fall away astern. "Good job, Dree." Aden says then turns to the Caravan Master saying, "It would have been a bad encounter if that raft in front had been able to put its men aboard. They would have had a chance to slow us down enough for the other two boats to catch up."
"Is that the quality and quantity of attackers we might expect on the run to South Port?"

The rest of the night passes without incident, and they arrive at South Port after high sun. The barge stops at a small dock, one of four at the tiny port. One other barge is loading at the next slip, and a quartet of rough looking characters, all human men, are waiting for them as the barge ties up. The Caravan Master ushers everyone off the barge. "There is a bunkhouse at the far end of this street. Tell the mistress that you are with me, and she will give you a place to sleep and a meal."

Sees the men. Are they waiting for our barge or the other? I think you infer the other barge but I want to be sure.
"As you wish." he says to Ustasi.
"It seems as though we are dismissed until later. Do we need any supplies between us that would serve our guardianship?". he says to the others.
He has all his own belongings in his pack and cannot think of any extras himself but suggests a couple of ideas to mull over. Maybe someone wants to buy a guard dog to add to our abilities.
And we should fact find a little more about the Lake area we are headed towards. What dialect they speak, what race of people most common. If it is a language not known to us, would hiring a translator be of benefit?

"Thanks! I'll be heading there immediately, then I might have a look around town unless you intend to leave South Port today." Aden says as he slips his backpack over his shoulders and adjusts his unstrung longbow.joertexas wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 4:00 am The rest of the night passes without incident, and they arrive at South Port after high sun. Are y'all coming with me to the bunkhouse?" Aden asks Amistad, Mirek and Dree.
Either way Aden strolls along the street, looking around and judging how crowded the streets are, how the street is named and the names of cross streets along the way, and what businesses he spies on the walk. He's specifically looking for a tavern and a store where he can buy bolts and arrows. [Perception: 20+5 = 25]
When they arrive at the end of the street Aden pauses and looks at the building. How many stories, what is it called, what other buildings are around it...isolated or other business around it..., and anything else that looks useful to know. [Perception: 5+5 = 10]
Stepping inside he pauses and looks around again, what does he see, smell and hear? [Perception: 18+5 = 23]
OOC: Aden wants to use his perception of the area to figure out how big/prosperous South Port is compared to other towns he has visited. [Investigation: 7+2 = 9]

Mirek is going along. He has a big pack, his short swords, his bow now unstrung on the pack, and a long, canvass bundle beside his pack about the length of a true sword, but thicker.Eris wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 10:45 pm"Thanks!
