After the guests have left for over 2 minutes.

"OK, bring him in."

Gunnar, a lithe man with depressed emotion in a uniform with flyer tabs is being preceded by another guard, with his pistol out and pointed at the flyer.

"Rywill, you were late and did not pick up my guest, Millicent Devereaux, she had to ride a locals bike here. What do you say."

"Sir, I say I was only 45 seconds late due to a stuck fuse coupling. Otherwise I am sure the delivering ship landed early.
I attempted to make up the time in approach.

Octavia thinks a bit.
"Fair, I won't kill you outright then.

Rywill's face looks scared and desperate now.

Octavia pulls out a laser pistol, aims and fires:

The laser hits him in the shoulder and falls over and starts to go into shock.

"Tell him he can go back to duty in a week. Take him to the doc, help him Gunner, be on the pad at 0900 ready for space travel."

He stands and looks around. "Escort me to my office."

He and the other guard walk out.


Gunnar you and the other guard are there picking up Rywill.

Sitting back and looking at her, "I think we are fools to ignore scientific theory and there is enough out there to show that the evidence is being censored at the highest levels in our government."

A spark lights in Dev's eye unexpectedly. She points a finger, smiling. "You don't need an archaeologist! What you need is someone who can hack into government computers, and do a different kind of excavating. I know someone who could help you."

Taking another sip a much smaller one, "Navy, no I spent a lot of time by myself on scout ships when I worked for the Scouts. Starting my own Navy is not what I want, I'd rather be left alone to pursue my studies."

This strikes Dev as funny, and she immediately lifts her glass. "To being left alone."

When Dev mentions hacking into the government, "What a quaint and interesting thought..." Smiling very devilishly.

As they are returning to the rooms, Hiro asks the other two guests "Do either of you know anything about our host, Octiavia Blue?"

After carefully listening to their response and discussing Mr Blue, Hiro ponders an bit and then asks "Have either of you been to this base before?", gesturing about. "Any interest in exploring?"

"I'll go for a walk with you, Captain," Dev offers. If she is going to be co-owner with the man, then she should get to know him as well as she can. When they are alone: "We are being cast together it seems. Mr. Blue owes me a Yacht, and I suspect that if I were to push him, there wouldn't be one. That alone might be a reason for this trade, so that a yacht becomes available. I did not know what was being suggested with cleaning up your ship -- it seems an extravagance that isn't really a kindness to you. Unless it's the armed circus transport he intends to clean up? Regardless."

Dev keeps the coversation going lightly -- things are surprisingly much easier without Mr Blue's formality. "At the same time, a larger ship with a more substantial cargo hold... What are your dreams, Captain? Where would you want to head after you leave this place? Or rather -- are you a Free Trader, or do your ambitions lie in other directions? Obviously the ship will need a new name, but that's just a matter of filing the right paperwork."

"If we are to be co-owners, it is best I am honest with you." Hiro becomes very serious. "My ownership of the yacht is contested, contested by a family member, my sister. My sister, who has undercut the noble title I was born to, leaving me on the run, living a violent life for these past decades. It is this life of violence that has left battle scars on the yacht, these scars the source of Octavia Blue's derision of the craft. Finally, cornered by my sister's duplicity, I have found my yacht unwelcomed in any port."

Hiro walks on for a few moments in silence, then continues.

"I do not know Octavia Blue, but somehow he knows of my situation. And though it is a generous offer, if true, I find myself bristling at being forced into the situation by a mysterious stranger."

"I find myself in the situation of accepting this offer out of necessity, but I do not trust Octavia Blue."

"My yacht? It has a ridiculous, boorish name. If you gain the yacht, name it anything that strikes your fancy. But know that it served me well, saved my life many times over the decades. It is a good ship."

Hiro walks on for a few minutes, commenting on each feature of the base, listening to Devs comments, before he suddenly turns to her ans asks "Oh. Did you mean the name of the Circus Ship?!" With a chuckle he continues "Yes, perhaps we should rename that."

"You don't know the half of it, he pays well, but only takes the best. He is the only one with money and a job in this area so locals flock to him for a life. A minor problem or mistake and you lose a week of pay. If you have the coin and the paper, go somewhere else and get another job.

You two manhandle him to the clinic.

Dev and Hiro are escorted to your respective rooms.

The menu for breakfast is available for you to chose, 'Delivered at 0730 unless
otherwise asked.' a variety of Ovums, juice, tunnel underground synth protein
and fresh baked bread are on the menu.

The entertainment channels are really good and the water does not get cold.


Garett is allowed to go his way to his bunk and you assume the cafeteria will
feed you in the am.

In the cafeteria in the am Garett and Gunnar both see each other sitting alone.

Dev and Hiro are escorted to your respective rooms.

You two are in the same hall, just 5 doors from each other.


Hiro makes sure Dev makes into her room safely.

Returning to his room, after recording his choice of ovum and juice for breakfast, Hiro performs twenty minutes of seated meditation, dresses for bed, then goes to sleep, his sword & gun belt hanging from the bed post near his head.


Anything before 0900?


At 0600, Hiro rises, limbers up by walking through the first three sword forms, then exercises by working through a dozen attempts of a Stadler press. He notes how much strength and agility he has lost due to age, but he is determined to retain as much as he can.

After showering, he dresses in a fresh casual outfit, dark brown pants, cream tunic shirt with embroidery on the hem, and a brown, cream and rust sash. Retrieving his gun & sword belt, he dons it along with his boots, adds his pocket items and checks his appearance in the mirror.

When breakfast is delivered, he sits to enjoy it and wait for departure time, wondering if the others have risen yet.

Dev is about to answer Watanabe when their stroll is cut short.

"We can continue this discussion on the flight out," she suggests. "It does sound like a new ship might be a bit of a blessing for you," she suggests, "and there might be some legal maneuvers that would at least solve your docking issue. Let me think on it."

When she is returned to her room she orders a breakfast of fresh bread and local fruits. Dev showers and changes into a form-fitting jumpsuit and high boots, and a scarf tied around her throat; ready for the trip. She is only a few minutes' late when she shows up, satchell over one shoulder.

All the guards and crew are in small groups, they look a bit on edge and conspiratorial, It seems they form close knit groups of people they trust. People look at you and look away quickly.


I will post arrival and take off at the ship the next morning later today. Tax interview....

Taxes, then shopping, then cooking, and late night.

Saturday ended up with a late morning, selling my 2 pallets of comics, talking to neighbors, pizza and single malt.

So my wife is working on her marble art tools which gave me time for a new post.
