A product of the late Unified Systems era, the Jinxuang Spaceways Type IX Light Freighter was designed for enterprising captains looking to operate between populace worlds where refuelling stations are ubiquitous. The Type IX forgoes the erstwhile standard exploratory-minded fuel scoops in favour of extended passenger cabins and lounges, and is able to comfortably accommodate and entertain a dozen personnel for several weeks between restocking, whilst still maintaining an extensive cargo hold. Though only a limited number were ever produced before Jinxuang Spaceways was dissolved, the Type IX proved peculiarly popular with a certain breed of grey market trader; unbeknownst to most authorities, the ship's barionic shielding systems rendered a moderately-sized space below the engine housings completely impervious to intrusive scanning, an undetectable compartment large enough to smuggle anything from drugs, to weapons, even people. Thanks to this unique quirk the Type IX became prized by those operating on the fringes of the law, the number of active vessels dwindling each year as they were lost in the depths of space, inadvertently destroyed by overenthusiastic pirates or lost to the whims of Spike drive travel. It is extremely possible that production number 013, currently known as "The Vale of Tears" is the last remaining Type IX in all of the Unified Systems...
