Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
The rope bridge leading to the barracks has broken. It is now a big drop into the abyss/ spider webs
Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
How long is the distance the bridge spanned? Would it be realistic to attempt to fashion a grappling hook and throw some rope over?
How far down is it to the water? Could we tie ropes together and repel down?
Sabyllos: "Thoril, Jimjar, any brilliant ideas?"

Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
It's about 20 feet across.
If you look at the picture here, you can get a sense of it... it's the gap between the stalactite and the pair of drow in the picture. There are a couple of anchor posts on the other side that you might be able to throw a grapple to, or do something with the temple stalactite which is a bit further back.
The ground/ water is technically beyond your view, but it's about 100 feet down to the pool of water below, with the webs (visible in the map) of varying height, but generally about 20 feet down.

Thoril considers for a brief second as he looks over the edge, "yeah, shout. Shout out the names of our prisoner friends and see where the hell they got to... don't want to climb down there for nothing!"
Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
Sabyllos: "Are we confident we're alone, now? I wouldn't want to shout and draw the attention of Drow, Quaggoth, or flying beastie."
He gives out a tentative, "Hello? Is... is anyone over there?"

Please give me a wisdom (perception) roll.
Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
Near the edge of your vision, across the chasm, mostly blocked by the stalactite containing the temple, you see flashes of red fire, and hear a female voice shouting in elvish, "The prisoners have escaped! Gather what guards remain, we must recapture them, before Lady Ilvara returns!"
You see the dim outlines of a small number of drow (3-4?) moving around the barracks area.

Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
Sabyllos motions for everyone to move back and keep out of sight of any Drow that might appear from the barracks area. "Alright, we can either drop a line from here, and deal with whatever might be living in those spiderwebs, or go down by Quaggoth caves, hope they're empty, and see if there's a way down from there. What do you think?"

Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
Thoril wonders "Would be good if we can trick them guards to head over to the quaggoth area and we drop the bridge somehow. Whatever you think is best"
Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
Fortunately, the drow are on the opposite side of a downed bridge. Unfortunately, so is the elevator...
Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
When Sabyllos was over at the empty cell, did it seem quiet down by the quaggoth cave?
Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
The quaggoth den (and a guard post) is down a set of stairs from the prisoner cave. As far as you could tell, it was quiet down there, yes
Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
Sabyllos looks deeply uncomfortable. Despite a lifetime of chaffing under the rule of others, he can't help but wish someone would pop up and start issuing orders, so that at least he wouldn't be responsible if the plan fell apart.
"Er... I... that is, I think we should go see how things look down by the quaggoth cave. There may be was down from there, or at least a ledge free of spider webs. If we encounter any quaggoth, I... um, I suppose we could pretend to be relaying orders from the Drow. Send them up to the guard station, and cut the bridge behind them? Does this all sound mad?"

Thoril, being a solider all his life, is glad he is with someone that has a good plan of what to do.
"That makes sense to me. Standing around isn't solving anything anymore - we've been lucky so far - let's push it a little further, eh?"

Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
Sabyllos: "Alright. Ready Jimjar? Shuushar? Has anyone seen Shuushar? Let's go!"
Sabyllos takes off across the bridge to the cells. He'll then pause and listen for any sounds from down the stairs to the Quaggoth cave.

Thoril follows with his gear. Listening for others and examining the stone caves for potential ways to climb down unseen.

Re: Utility Detail - Thoril, Sabyllos
You head down the steps to the quaggoth cave...
At the entrance to the cave, you find the remains of a bloody battle. There are two dead quaggoth splayed on the ground near the body of one of the giant insects, an eight foot long cross between a fly and a human, its 2 foot long proboscis still lodged in one of the quaggoth.
Just inside the foul smelling quaggoth cave, you see a few other quaggoth, who appear to be passed out.
Also at the end of this walkway is a guard post. Two drow guards, who look as if they have been poisoned, lie on the ground here. A sturdy post near the door of the guard post looks like it will support your weight, and the webs don't seem to extend this far.

With a wary ear cocked for sounds of quaggoths rising, Sabyllos goes into the guard post to inspect it for items of interest.

Sabyllos enters the guard room.
In the hand of one of the Drow, you see the horn which was blown when the creatures first entered the canyon.
Inside the guard chamber, in addition to a small table and two chairs, you see a game board which looks like a big spiderweb lying on the ground. Around it, there are various game pieces and dice.
