Grappling

#1 Post by drpete »

All characters have a grapple DC, which is 10+Str(Athletics) or 10+Dex(Acrobatics) (when first avoiding grapple only). Unarmored defense bonuses (from barbarian & monk) improve this.

Characters can make grapple attacks against an opponent's grapple DC with d20+Str(Athletics).

On a hit, attacker does "control point" damage to reflect the quality of the grab. Base damage roll is the hit die of the attacker+ str. Monk damage dice are added to this total.

One handed grapples do half control damage.

Combatants have maximum control point values equal to: (STR + DEX BONUS + 2×PROFICIENCY)

A 1st level character with 16 str, 14 Dex would therefore have a control point maximum of 16 +2 (Dex bonus) +2×2 (proficiency) = 22 points.

Characters gain conditions based on the number of control points their opponent has against them:

Up to CM/5: grabbed
Up to CM/2: grappled
Up to CM: restrained
Above CM: incapacitated
