The Bloodpact

#1 Post by OGRE MAGE »

Bugbear Bloodpact:

After one of the most devastating adventuring forays into the Caves of Chaos several years back, the denizens of the caves found themselves on very, very lean times. With nearly all of their numbers destroyed or chased off, they knew the complex wouldn't survive another attack. They needed to do something drastic......

The Bugbear Chieftain had a plan. He knew the magic amulet that he possessed was dark, and dangerous, but he had little choice. He had to call forth the evil entity inside or they would have all surely perished once the next wave of attacks was unleashed upon the Caves. What happened on that fateful day has marred the caves existence ever since.

Calling forth a powerful demon, a dreaded goblinoid bloodpact was enacted, haunting every tribe in the Caves complex from that day forward. The demon did help them slay the next several groups who tried to eliminate the monsters of the Borderlands permanently, essentially allowing them to grow and thrive again. But once the tribes were all back up to full strength, the demon decided to extract it's heavy price.

It flayed and devoured 13 of their numbers on the spot, one soul from each of the remaining tribes. Declaring it would return every tri-blood moon (approximately every ten years) to extract another 13 random souls unless their portion of the pact was fulfilled before the end of the three day blood moon cycle. The most recent blood moon cycle started yesterday.

The only way to fulfill the Bloodpact, essentially preventing the return of the soul eating demon, is to plan and execute a succesful attack upon the Keep where at least 13 people must die so that their souls can join the damned.

A meeting in the Bugbears cave to plan this next attack upon the keep is already in progress.

Each character has a varying degree of concern regarding this pact, creating a bit of conflict during the preparations and undertaking of the raid. I will post more about this in your private threads to explain how it effects each of you specifically. As always, feel free to ask if you have any questions. Thanks!
