Guild of Adventurers

The Vaul Adventurers' Guild completed initial construction on May 20, 1 VC. It is for the use of licensed adventurers and is funded by member fees and by the seat of Tamerlin, Regent of Vaul.

It has the following accommodations:

-A private bulletin board
-Four private single rooms of high quality - first night free if available, then 1sp per night up to one month.
-Eight double-occupancy rooms of normal quality - free if available for up to one month.
-A training room for weapons practice - free for any
-A small library - free to browse, 10gp/day lending fee per book (500gp value, +0 to general research checks)
-No arcane laboratory
-No arcane library

Membership provides access to all of these services. Official commissions of the guild are posted via the bulletin board, with bounties paid from member fees and the crown's reserves. Membership is for life, unless it is revoked by the guild master for abuse of guild resources or behavior unbecoming of an ally of the Crown.

Membership costs 75gp, payable in coin or gems.

The current Guild Master, effective May 12, 1 VC, is Valorei the Elf.

Commissions of the Crown: posted May 20, 1 VC

1. Recovery of the dragon's hoard from the destroyed mountain. Some supplies provided, bounty proportional to material recovered. Inquire with the Regent.

2. Restoration of watchtowers. Bounty of 100gp, deed to tower and surrounding land, 10gp yearly subsidy to man tower in exchange for guarantee of upkeep. Inquire with Guild Master. Bounty payable per tower restored.

3. Removal of lizard men from western reaches to secure borders. Bounty 1,000 gold pieces, title of nobility. Inquire with the Regent.

4. Emissary needed to establish diplomatic relations with Griffins of the eastern forest. Bounty appropriate to results of mission, up to and including title of nobility, 2,000gp reward, full diplomatic post. Inquire with Guild Master.

5. Elimination of Fire Tribe lieutenants currently at large, returned dead or alive. 150gp each for Catstrangler (bugbear), white-skinned goblin in X-marked tabard, and heavily-armored orcish knight. Inquiries and returns directed to the Assessor.

Perthrin accompanies Kennit, also seeking admission to the Guild and compensation for the bounty on the bugbear and the reclaimed tower.

I was looking at the bounties and realized it is silly to not use the bounties for this.

Varas directs the pair to return the head to the Assessor after taking their 150gp combined in membership fees and adding them to the rolls.

The Assessor looks over the bugbear's head grimly, nods once, and hands over a pouch of 15 platinum coins. "You may keep the head as a trophy, if you like," he says, scratching out a line of his ledger that feature's the monster's name at one end.

When they return to the Adventurer's Guild, Varas informs Kennit and Perthrin that they will need to be accompanied by a representative of the crown (himself, given the limited personnel) to inspect the property to assess its value and confirm that it has been claimed and settled before writing up the deed. Varas will be available to make this journey as of June 1.

Edit: Made an error.

Valorei reveals that he has an identical set of books to the ones that Ulf has recovered. "I can read these," he admits, "but I have had limited time to dedicate to them. They are military field guides, offering information on the habits and standards of the hobgoblins as they operate militarily. I hope to uncover many important truths about their culture and organization--and, more practically, something that could be of value if we must face them as enemies in the field again!" He seems almost abashed at his enthusiasm over the books. "I know that a group of hobgoblins have been made guests of the Regent, and I anticipate being able to interview them at length at some point, once Tamerlin is done with his inspection and consideration."
