Local Area Map:
The NW corner of the map was once a forest but is now nothing but a great sea of sand. The highlighted yellow circle in the center of the map is your present location, Eddistone Point to the north, your destination. You have heard of Hommlet, but nothing of interest stuck with you. The ^ on the map represent forest.

Note: Arrows with a "U" or "D" next to them indicate ramps Up and Down. White areas in the tower walls on the map are arrow slits and windows.Building 31 is a tower of sturdy design. The thing is constructed of massive gray blocks, its base roughly 50' in diameter rises up out of the ground like some unholy creature from a time long past. The outer structure raises up some 50' then a second tower raises up another 36' from its center.
The massive blocks, near the base, are marred with black scorch marks, and large chunks of stone, the size of a human skull, have been knocked out of the stone in numerous places, evidenced by piles of similar looking stone at the base of the tower. A curved staircase follows the base of the tower on its eastern flank ending in a 10' x 10' single stone block platform. The block sets out 10' from the base of the tower, adjacent to a massive wooden entrance, also 10' off the ground. The Wood entryway, 5' w x 10' h, appears to be recently shored up with heavy timber and covered with small steel plates that look like pieces of full-plate armor, hammered into roughly square pieces.
Inside the main gate is a secondary heavy iron gate. As you walk through the front entryway, between outer and inner gates, you note two murder holes above your head. The inner chamber is dominated by two large, back to back, fireplaces, used for cooking and heating.
"On the next floor down is a natural spring where you may replenish your water.
