Olórin Staff in hand starts casting his spell aimed at the closest slug. A glowing arrow appears next to Olórin and flies straight at the slug striking it.

Summary: To Find Adventure

In the Gokstad
As the Giant Sea Slugs fluoresce in the bright night sky, lighting the gunwales and deck of the Gokstad and move in for a feast of easy pickings, the young adventurers jump to action. The slimy trails of the Giant Slugs glow yellowish green making it obvious where they have been and where to avoid.

The oarsman attacthed to one of the Giant Sea Slugs, a local hired hand, struggles less and less until his gurgled cries and flopping cease altogether.

Harold brandished his two-handed battlehammer and rushes the nearest Slug crying, "Crush the enemies! And see them driven before us!! Yahh!!!!" The massive hammer slams into the rubbery body and slips off hitting the deck with a loud thud. The creature writhes at the insult and turns toward Harold revealing an outer row of razor sharp pointed teeth and several inner rows of gnashing biting shark-like teeth. Not a pretty sight to the overly vain Harold. Hákon pulls Drykkjumaður from its scabbard, steps into the light of the Slugs and announces, "Snails that swim ? A cute trick, meant to fool us. The gods must be bored. As am I!" before letting one of them have it. Drykkjumaður's sharp edge easily slices through the soft rubbery skin of the Sea Slug, letting its inner blue guts drip and ooze upon the deck. The Slug rears its eyeless head, waving its antennae in Hákon’s direction, and lunges with a wide-open mouth full of nasty looking teeth.

Valdemar struggles to free himself of the goo that stubbornly sticks to his hands. Eventually he wipes them on an innocent oarsman before ordering them to take up oar and row before more come aboard. Once his hands are free of the goo he goes for his greataxe to assist the others in the fight.

Johann takes position behind Harold, making a stab at the slug. It easily dodges the attempt. Olórin takes advantage of the Slugs' dissinterest in him and taps into the unseen web of magical power flowing though his veins, inciting a series of arcane commands, and calling forth a glowing arrow that flies into the nearest Slug exploding into a ball of fire. A small fissure opens in the side of the slug and a bluish chunky fluid begins to sizzle and ooze out. The Slug silently writhes at the injury and heads to the nearest oarsman meal.

Agmundr the one-eyed half-hand rouses himself from the deck, steels his nerve, and with a loud wolfish bearlike growl, “Grrrrrrrrrr” stabs his spear at the nearest Slug in an attempt to skewer it to the deck. The Slug senses Agmundr’s approach through the deck boards and easily dodges the spear.

Summary: A Battle

In the Gokstad

The Giant Sea Slugs blindly lurch, ooze, and thrust their whip-like upper bodies around the deck zeroing in on the vibrations and heat signatures of the crew. Slug 4 whips its maw at a nearby oarsman sinking its mouth full of razor sharp teeth into the man’s neck. The Oarsman screams in pain, releases the oar, and frantically flails at the slimy creature.

Buccaneer CON save (12) [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16
Oarsman 1 Slowed for 6 rounds (-2 attacks, +2 Initiative, ½ speed)

Olórin charges Slug 4, now fixed to the neck of Oarsman 1, and whacks it solidly in the gullet. It remains attached to the Oarsman gnawing at the man’s neck. Slug 2 tries to latch onto Oarsman 2 but the Buccaneer kicks it away and continues to row. Slug 3 finds Hákon, latches onto a thigh, and begins feeding immediately. Hákon shakes off the poison now coursing through his blood manages to jab his sword into the nasty's side.
Hákon 1 Slowed for 3 rounds (-2 attacks, -2 Initiative, ½ speed)

Harold sidesteps Slug 1 and swings away. The heavy head of his massive hammer slams into its side sending it sliding across the deck.
Slug 1 dazed (-1 next attack, +1 Initiative)

Agmundr’s gnashes his teeth with a growl of anger and thrusts his spear through the center meat of Slug 4’s body, sticking it to the oak deck with a mighty “THWUCK!” A thick green slime begins to ooze from the around the spear shaft followed by Oarsman 1’s blood. Johann seeing Slug 1 knocked across the deck quickly shifts gear and attacks Slug 4 attached to Oarsman 1. His longsword slices a wide gash into the neck of the Slug causing gouts of green slime and Oarsman blood to ooze out and onto the deck at his feet. The tenacious slug remains latched onto the Oarsman’s neck though it has beun to slow its vociferous sucking.

Valdemar charges Slug 4 with his great axe shouting, "Av gudene ! Du skal dø!" The Giant Slug ooze, now somewhat covering the deck, nearly topples the massive Norseman causing him to abandon his attack.

Johann finishes off Slug 4 with a swift flick of his longsword. Hákon laughs at his Slug’s feeble attempt to slow down a Geat and begins swinging wildly, the poisin now coursing fully through his body taking the edge off his senses and gross motor skills. The Oarsman continue rowing through the bloodbath proving there is a great deal more to their leader than appears on the surface. Valdemar's son, Arnþórr, reamins at the front of the bow facing seaward like a statue or a masthead during the whole affair. He seems neither scared nor plussed by the whole affair. Perhaps it is hubris that drives the young lad or a determination to prove his worth as a man. Either way the Giant Slugs seem determined to have their meal. The Oarsman continue to row full steam while chanting their song,

Starka varna vesta lee
Obediah, obediah
Starka varna vesta lee
Obediah munyeh

Stolla stoyta stonga rerr
What says du? Da bunchka berr
What says du? Da bunchka berr
Littera meyvee drenyeh

Senna poppa warra
Obediah, obediah
Senna poppa warra
Obediah munyeh

Starka varna vesta lee
Pull your oar, pull your oar
Starka varna vesta lee
Pull your oar bravely

We come to gather, not to fight
But if we fight we will be right

Back at home our children cry
We must feed them or they'll die

The ice comes to kill our fields
So we must come to take your yield

If you will not fight with us
Where is your honour? in the dust…
