Fourth Expedition
Re: Fourth Expedition
Booooooooo, hisssssss...
Kent falls to the ground, his life, so full of promise and potential, cut sadly short by the claws of some undead thing. Ask not for whom the bell tolls, etc, et al.
Initiative: 7 + 2 (now that Kent's gone, no more +3, ) = 9
Grim will desperately try to bash the thing's skull that's grabbed him by the throat. To Hit: 3 + 1 (deed die). He tries a shield bash as well, to Hit: 5 + 1. Does he get a strength or agility check to try to wriggle free from the thing around his throat? If so, 14 (siiiiiiiiigh... why couldn't that be the to hit roll?!) Grim is pretty afraid for his life at this point, undead thing grabbing on his throat and all, so he'll burn 8 Luck to make the to-hit with the warhammer succeed. Damage: 6!
Gunnar bellows and strikes at the one that's grabbed his cousin, if it's still up; if not, at the final remaining corpser thing. "By the Gods, back to death with you!" To Hit: 2 + 2.
Seeing Kent fall, Cisneros hustles back and begins rifling through his backpack for the bracelet with jewels.
Seeing nothing coming yet, Daryll will run back to Grim and Gunnar and join the fray, throwing his dagger at the last remaining corpser thing. To Hit: 9 + 1, and he'll burn 2 Luck to make it a hit (ultimately getting +4 to roll). Damage: 2 + 1 + 2 Luck (two 1s... siiigh again) total = 5.
Inside the room, Willie will strike at the nearest skeletal thing. To hit: 4.
HP, having escaped harm to this point, sees that the tide may be turning... he regains some courage and joins Ellie against the skeletal things. To Hit: 19! Damage: 1 (1 - 1 = 1, right?).
Suggest you aggressively burn luck to kill things, we can't take another round of this, heh. Sweet Jesus we need a halfling!

Seeing his friend fall (or fearing for his life) brings a change to Jonas. Grabbing his staff firmly he wades into battle, shouting "NO!, NO!, NO! " as he swings at the closest undead.
To hit 9, damage 3. He'll burn however much luck he needs to hit.
Seeing the door blocked, Willem does the only thing he can...keep fighting for his life.
To hit 10, damage 5. Again, burn as muck luck as needed to hit

Re: Fourth Expedition
Colgher Colgher's eyes widen as he watches his precious life juices ooze out like something he really needs vacating in a damn big hurry. He has just enough time to murmur "Eee..." before expiring. Was it a clue? A warning? The final prayer of a mortal man clinging desperately to hope? Who cares? He's dead now.
The situation grim, Torvid Spurn attacks the nearest undead. Themble Undergold and Malgaliir join in as well, knowing it's fight or die time.
Initiative: 2+0= 2
Torvid attacks with his trust razor: 4+0=4 (will burn up to 10 Luck to hit. If 10 isn't enough, ah well, it was a good enough life)
Damage: 4
Themble attacks with his hammer: 16+1=17 (will burn up to 3 Luck if needed)
Damage: 3+1=4
Mal attacks with his staff: 6 (will burn up to 10 Luck to hit)
Damage: 2+1=3

Is that a ghost and a giant snake coming down the hallway, or are you just happy to see me?beermotor wrote:Booooooooo, hisssssss...
The three shrieking skeletons leap forward, attacking Torvid, Mal, and HP. The first rolls a 4, which clearly misses Torvid. Mal and HP are both hit (18 and 19 respectively), each taking 2 points of damage. So much for praying to the darkness. HP thinks that he can almost....almost....understand the shrieks and sonorous chants of the un-dead.
Grim succeeds in striking the corpse holding his throat, but 6 damage just isn't going to do it. Gunnar misses the same corpser, but Daryll's dagger strikes the other one, which continues its chanting unabated. Cisneros begins looting Kent's backpack.
Jonas burns 4 Luck to hit the nearest shrieking skeleton, smashing it into small bits of bone. Willem burns 2 Luck to hit one of the mummified corpses...by good fortune, it is the one with its hands about Grim's throat. Five points is enough to silence it, and it sinks to the bloody flagstones, its hands still locked in place.
Torvid burns 8 Luck to hit the other walking corpse, which sinks to the floor when his trusty razor goes into its eye. Themble needs no extra Luck to hit one of the last two animated skeletons, and he drops it. Mal, swinging his staff, burns 7 Luck to hit the last moving un-dead creature - the one which attacked HP - dropping it.
Grim has no trouble removing the dead thing's hands from about his neck, and it does not rise again. In the silence that follows, pierced only by Cisneros' hacking cough as he loots Kent's backpack, you realize that there is now (probably) nothing stopping you from collecting whatever gold and silver these things guarded.
4 XP each.

Re: Fourth Expedition
Ellie will go back to the area she was in before the attack and pick up some coins. Emboldened by her successful attack, she wonders what dark gods could create such monsters.
Podrick checks Jeren's corpse, he says a quiet prayer to whatever gods might take Jeren to a better place. He'll take his pitchfork.
Kadatheron will pick up some coins as well. Watching Cisneros, he wonders what sort of pact the elf struck and if it was worth the price.

Re: Fourth Expedition
There are a total of 367 sp and 212 gp in here, among the dead. A small fortune, truly.
Re: Fourth Expedition
Jonas looks down at the pile of bones at his feet Han at the staff in his hands. " I did it. I really did it."
"Aye, ye really whacked the backbone out of it, " replied Willem. "Now stop gaping like a giant codfish and help gather up some o' these coins before something else comes a creepin' in on us."
Jonas and Willem join in gathering up any treasure in the room.
As they gathering up the treasure, Willem addresses Grim. "Should we gather up our dead and take them back outta here? I'd hate to be leavin' them here and then runnin' across them later, walkin' and moanin' like these others deaders."

Re: Fourth Expedition
"That was more than we're really equipped to handle," Grim says. "How many are we now? I think we need to get out of here and rest, regroup. And upgrade some armor."
Daryll retrieves his dagger and nods. "There's that catacomb right on the way out, with the busted bricks."
Grim nods. "What's the split of the coins? Let's spread the coins around for now."

I've still got Torvid, Malgaliir, and Themble.
Re: Fourth Expedition
So, looks like we have 14 characters?
Splitting the coins yields:
15 gp
26 sp
Daryll kicks at Cisneros rummaging around in Kent's backpack. "Just take the pack, fool." Cisneros coughs and then nods, removes the backpack gingerly from the corpse.
Grim grunts after the coins are split. "Let's make sure there's nothing else in here before we bolt. Are we absolutely sure that these tables don't open or move or something?" Gunnar and Grim will look around before we form up to leave.

Re: Fourth Expedition
"What about them?" Willem asks, jerking his thumb at their dead companions. ""Seems like if we be leaven' them down here we risk havin' to fight 'em again later. Things don't seem to stay dead down here very long."
Re: Fourth Expedition
"Yes," Grim says. "We should drag them out and give them a proper burial, away from this accursed place. But let's have a quick look around first."
Specifically looking at the slabs to figure out how to move them, if at all possible, whether some appear to be higher in station than others, etc. Also looking for secret compartments, loose bricks, that kind of thing.

Re: Fourth Expedition
Themble, Mal, and Torvid will work with those who are gathering the bodies, with Torvid specifically helping with his dead friend Colgher. Though grimly silent, there's a guilty part of Torvid's mind that keeps wandering to his share of the loot; a previously unimaginable sum of money. A bittersweet moment indeed.

Re: Fourth Expedition
I've lost Jeren, so I'm down to 3 as well.
Podrick will help gather and move the dead.
Ellie looks for a sturdier weapon amongst the un-dead things in the room. She still wonders at what could create such monsters.
Kadatheron studies the undead-things more closely, looking for any mark of the gods on them, or other clues as to who they once were or what might have created them.

"Fair enough," replied Willem to Grim, "A fair bit of treasure for the livin' thar will be, but tis' always good to be givin' the dead their dues too for thems to be payin' the ferryman."
He points to their fallen companions, "Jonas, stop yer lollygaggin' at that thar pile o' bones and help the others with the deaders. I'll help look about fer more bits o' treasure."

Re: Fourth Expedition
Kadatheron examines the un-dead things. He can tell that their robes were one of fine stuff, but there is little else here to indicate what they were, apart from that sign of wealth.
Grim has a little more luck, looking at the slabs. He discovers that one of the roses on the northernmost slab appears to be more than decorative - it can obviously be manipulated in some manner.
Be aware that if you are taking the bodies of your friends out of here, I will want to know who is carrying whom, and how. Carrying a single body by yourself is hard work. Carrying one body between two people is easier, but will still require two hands each. Moreover, carrying the dead may preclude torches, if there are no free hands to go around.

"Hmm, this looks interesting," Grim says. "Daryll, come take a look."
Daryll walks over and examines the rose carving, to see if he can determine how it works, what it does, etc. Find Traps roll: 15 + 1 = 16.
Assuming it looks okay, Daryll will manipulate it in whatever manner it seems possible to do, telling everyone to "stand back" at least 10 feet before he does so.
