Genesis Pits - Character Creation
Doing something different - we will begin with a funnel DCC style in which you have no idea of your stats, Hps, anything. As you gain experience you will begin to understand yourself better - your past, skills, abilities.
What I want are a series of 10 items lists - a word or sentence is all that is required for each item
List 1 - Personality - 1 or 2 words only
List 2 - I hate
List 3 - I love
List 4 - I excell at
List 5- I suck at
List 6 - PM me this one A secret I know or want to keep hidden
I will generate characters from these lists and a few lists of my own.
Like this? Hate this? I am open to discuss changes. Have a list that should be included? Maybe one that should be deleted? Lets talk and create.

I'm willing to give this a try...though you only have 6 items in your ten item list

Re: Genesis Pits - Character Creation
Ah my bad.
Each of the 6 listed questions needs 10 items. I will generate from those lists. Six d10 rolls essentially.
So come up with 10 items for each list. Sorry that was vague.

Re: Genesis Pits - Character Creation
That makes sense....
Do you want them posted here or sent by PM? PM would be interesting as then the other players wouldn't know about your PC either.

Re: Genesis Pits - Character Creation
I like that Dogma - send all items in a PM. I only thought about the secret list items but your idea is much better.
Consider that enacted.
Thanks

Never played the funnel DCC style before, so please bear with me inexperience there!Blackrazor wrote:Doing something different - we will begin with a funnel DCC style in which you have no idea of your stats, Hps, anything. As per the recruitment thread, our PCs will be Pure Strain Humans to start with, right?
Do they have any knowledge of the various technologies present on the ship or are they starting out as (for instance) nomadic tribesmen on a remote deck of the Warden? Was curious about that as I'm thinking that would affect what 10 items/words we have to submit via pm?
Although I do prefer rolling up my own PCs via the BtB chargen method, I'm willing to give this way a go. Certainly do like the exploration and discovery aspects of the game to be sure!

I;ve been having the same trouble creating my lists. epending onhow I imagine the players are starting out (wild nomads, recently revivied colonists, etc) I get completely different lists.
A little guidance from the DM as to the community we'd be from would be helpful.

Re: Genesis Pits - Character Creation
Think generically rather than specially. Weather you are wasteland deck warriors, space amish or bridge crew it should apply. I fault myself for being so vague but wanted to have a 'what the heck' factor cranked to 11. The less you know the more wow there can be - at least that is what I am shooting for.
I hope this helps. If it doesn't keep asking and we will work on it. Promise.
p.s. You could mix higher tech end stuff with lower end tech stuff as well. If you choose. That could be interesting. Good with agriculture, bad with AIs. Likes tomato picking hates Trideo sitcoms.

The vagueness of the situation kind of intrigues me... So does the "'what the heck' factor cranked to 11" part!!

Re: Genesis Pits - Character Creation
You know it makes sense to you, but becomes lost in translation. I am so sorry for being vague.
What these lists do is allow me to create many random characters for the game. I wanted you to have some investment in the process since everything is blank and secretive. It was also there to dispell the notion that I may make characters for you - forcing/railroading you.
So know this
You are not cresting a single character.
You are creating a personalized random character generator that I will use.
I hope things are far more clear and my apologies for any misrepresentation or miscommunication on my part.
Thanks so much for your patience and understanding.

Re: Genesis Pits - Character Creation
Thanks for the explanation and additional descriptors, BR. I also like the idea of discovering things about ourselves (as characters) as we explore the world around them.
I just PMed you my list but wanted you to review that before I posted them here, just in case I've got it all wrong! Lol
Btw, wanted to forward this link I saw over at the MA boards. Could come in handy for any & all Warden-masters:

Re: Genesis Pits - Character Creation
This "create your own random character generator" is actually a very nice idea. Is it a set system you took from somewhere or is it your own idea?

Re: Genesis Pits - Character Creation
There are a number of random NPC/PC generators out there so this is just my take to fit this game. I would like to believe I am that creative but I know this is by no means new.
Glad you like the idea.

Re: Genesis Pits - Character Creation
It might not be new, but your variation on the random generator gives lots of control to the players.
I don't know who exactly my character ends up to be, but by writing my own lists, I'm creating a "framework". E.g. I generally know that I want a "sneaky and charismatic" character. I'm not restricted to classes or anything (so I don't have to pick from "thief", "bard", etc.), and by picking out related adjectives, I can flesh out my character - but the exact detailing will be a surprise (and thus, a challenge!).
This idea would be a nice starting point for a game system.
