Re: Fifth Expedition

It isn't a door....just a dark opening. You are correct that it goes west. Daryll sees no traps as he walks toward it. Beyond is a smaller space, 10 feet deep and 20 feet wide, also very dusty. Whoever the booted man was, he paused here to scrawl upon the wall: beware the pools The message is writte...

Re: Fifth Expedition

Daryll sees before him a seemingly empty space, 20 feet square, extending to the left. On the northern part of the left wall, there is another entrance. The area is thick with dust and cobwebs, but there are clearly bootmarks as of someone going to the other exit and back again.

Re: Fifth Expedition

As far as he can tell, it is neither locked not trapped.

Re: Fifth Expedition

Luck is with you, and you are not disturbed in your searching. There are 155 alcoves in the room, containing 155 urns, in turn containing about 200 skeletons (there are a few urns, almost 1/3rd, which contain not one but two skeletons). They are very old, very brittle, and - thankfully! - do not lea...

Re: Fifth Expedition

Taking the bodies down will require a DC 15 Strength check - the spears are driven that deeply into the wall! Which door did you hope to bar? I assume you mean the eastern door, not the one you came through. If Milner doesn't want to search every urn (or every alcove with urns in them), give me some...

Re: Fifth Expedition

Gunnar's sniffing by the eastern door produces nothing distinct....if there is something precious beyond, he cannot smell it. The awful rot of the dead, though, he can smell quite easily. Looking in the funeral urns, in their square-shaped burial alcoves, Milner discovers that each seems to contain ...

Re: Fifth Expedition

You do not recognize them, no. Getting into the backpack requires another DC 10 Fortitude save, as shifting the body sends forth an even more potent gagging stench.... Within the backpack, you find a bit of thin rope or cord, about 10 feet you would estimate if uncoiled, six iron spikes, a small ham...

Re: Fifth Expedition

With a closer look, you can see that both were human. They appear to have been slain by slashing weapons (swords, probably) and then pinned to the wall with spears. From the shape of their bodies, this was perhaps two weeks ago. Whoever did it was strong to drive the spears as far as they did, even ...

Re: Fifth Expedition

The bodies are currently quite far away; tough to tell without moving up and examining them.

Re: Fifth Expedition

Nah, I told you the duration so you could roll. Daryll finds the stench offensive, and will need a Will save (DC 10) to do anything more here than quickly pass through the room (if that is what you decide to do). More importantly, I suppose, is that Gunnar's stomach is like cast iron, and he can sni...

Re: Fifth Expedition

As you kick the door open, an overwhelming stench of rot wafts out from the room. Everyone must make a DC 10 Fort save or spend the next 1d4+1 rounds retching from the foul reek.

Re: Fifth Expedition

Even coming near the door, Daryll notes that the foul reek from beyond is nauseating. However, he sees no sign of a lock or traps.

Re: Fifth Expedition

Ahead, Milner can see an empty (or seemingly empty) chamber, perhaps 30 feet wide and 40 feet deep. He thinks he can make out a door in the far wall.

Re: Fifth Expedition

Speak up if you have a pole and are willing to use it, otherwise I assume not. As you approach the second door to the left, you see that there is indeed another door just beyond it to the right. Then, after 20 feet, the corridor enters some larger space. A bad smell, like rotting meat, com...

Re: Fifth Expedition

Apart from the faint drip of water, all seems quiet as your party moves off to explore the eastern way.

Immediately to the left, where the corridor starts, there is a door. You can see another door 30 feet on to the left, and there is perhaps a door immediately thereafter to the right.
